In the context, though, it could mean having the main characters come to the wrong conclusion. This would be a bit more complicated than 'lel, I was lying all long' as it would have to make sense and be believable. Both the truth and the assumption and the act of making and then realising the mistake. Seems like it would have to be a really tight fit with little room for uh errors.

Smitty's strings only help her teleport to the right place, which probably in this case eans messing her tp and thus not appearing exactly where jeane had predicted her to go.
And it seems that annie realized that Jeanne can see where parley will tp because she herself can see it.

I hoe we get an ending page like the one in the RoTD showing what Annie saw while Kat was in the Ether.

Smitty is less of a background character than Blue is, so from a story perspective killing Smitty off changes quite a lot - he's the court's representative, for one. He's also Parley's boyfriend and one of the most useful assets in Queslett house, it wouldn't exactly be a light decision.

My geuss is that lack of detail keeps the face within the iconic range that lets reader identify, make it realistic and the effect is lost.
