I don't get it, it's the cartoon I like the most right now.
The humor doesn't always work, but when it does I really enjoy it.
The plot proceeds kinda slowly, but I never feel like it's being dragged. Also, I like the care given to stealth continuity details.
Instead I find SU utterly boring, and AT went downhill since late s5/early season 6.
Gravity Falls' humor generally got worse with season two (right when the episodes became more plot-heavy), so I wouldn't like something like that to happen.

Secondly, it's almost impossible not to stumble in any chiche of some sort, independently from the thing you're watching/reading/whatever: mankind has been writing for millenia. But even ignoring this obvious point for a second, my opinion is that this specific show succeeds to 'break' or to avoid cliches better than the most part of other cartoons.

No, buddy, it's not bait. I've watched quite a few episodes, and I've concluded that the show is terrible. If you like it, fine. You do you. But I've wasted enough time trying to get into SvsFOE, and as far as I can see there is nothing there to recommend it aside from good animation and fuckable characters. I mean it's got those, I'll give it that. But that's not enough for me to watch it.

As someone who recently watched DVD and web rips of the show for a second time i can tell you that some episodes are really tough to get through

Episodes like

>The Other Exchange Student
>Pixtopia
>Lobster Claws
>Fortoune Cookies
>The Banagic Incident
>Star on Wheels (Fucking trash)
>Fetch (Less trashy but still trash
>Star vs. Echo Creek (Cringe trash)

Were all pretty hard to get through on a second watch.

The show has some pretty bad stock plots, some pretty normal good plots, and some pretty above average episodes (My New Wand, Into the Wild, Is Mystery, Into the Wand, Storm the Castle & Bon Bon).

The biggest problems are that

>B. It is inconstant as fuck

For every time im annoyed at star's high pitched and poorly mixed voice I kek pretty hard at a clever joke. For every time I cringe at a toilet joke or one that falls hard on its face there is a smart moment or joke that makes me wonder why it was only on Disney XD.

I just want Star to have a good day and make me laugh, not cringe.

I assumed that because you started with "It's a bad show", it really looks like you're trying to claim you're being objective.

Who knows? As I've said, I notice in this show less clichés than I usually do in cartoons. That alone obviously doesn't exclude their presence, but even if there are some they don't really trouble me.
Let's take the aforementioned highschool ambientation as example.
Ignoring the fact that school isn't such a recurrent theme, let's analize a typical cliché: the rich popular bitch.
Here Star is NOT the girl that gets all kinds of abuses by her, until by the end of the episode she takes her little revenge/learns not to let mean people get under her skin.
She just keeps being kind and upbeat with anyone, earning everyone's affection. And despite how much "the bitch" hates her, Star doesn't even realize it in her naiveté and keep doing what she wants without any problem. And still, this kind of interaction happens like one time in the whole series instead of the "once every two episodes" to wich some cartoons are accustomed.
There are also other situations with familiar structures that nevertheless are played out in a different way than usual.
Also, I don't think a show should be considered good or not because of clichés: by this reasoning if someone used a lot of fresh, brilliant ideas in a shitty work, now those are ruined forever, since you can't reuse them in a better way.
So I think execution is the most important thing, and I like the execution here, even if you don't; similarly you say the show has shitty humor, but I like it, etc.

To conclude: it's of course ok for you not to like this show, I just think some of your judgements are actually subjective, since some of the aspects you consider bad are instead liked by me, thus making the matter by definition not objective.

Also I don't get the "safe sex appeal" part.

I get that a large premise of the show are the cultural and social disparities that comes with being an inter-dimensional princess living in a middle-class American household, but not know how to hold a broom shows that Star is either intellectually challenged and outright stupid or has some kind of mental disorder that doesn't allow her to think clearly.

Sums it up.

The Mina episode is probably best to sum up everything right and wrong with every SoL episode in this series. Most jokes involving Mina and Star are cringe trash. Most jokes involving Marco and the side characters are comedy gold. It is inconsistent and I wouldn't really follow it if the lore-focused episodes are just as mixed.

Fortunately it isn't because the lore looks fucking fantastic and worth following. The history between the Mewnians and the monsters is very interesting and so far looks very well-planned. The action scenes, even in the unstable first season is fast, fun and great to watch and their absence is definitely what made the first half of season 2 feel empty. Most of the characters interact well enough, too. At least to the point that most of the time, whenever Star and Marco are separated, the episode fails.

The villains are the best part of the show. Ludo's transformation from a generic shitty evil leader to actually threatening is fantastic. Toffee was great and is dearly missed.

It's got a reputation for catering to shippers which I think is a bit unfair because it has a lot more to it, but it does hold some truth. With the whole blood moon thing, it looks pretty fucking obvious that Starco is endgame but now we have to go through what seems to be the classic teenage romance drama love triangle shit before getting to the juicy bits with the whole story and war between monsters and mewnians. We don't know how that's going to end, yet, so I'm not gonna hold it against the show, yet.

Decent, 6-7/10 show. Would've been a great show if it can sort out the flaws with it's SoL episodes (lolsorandom plot going nowhere with some shit lolsorandom jokes sprinkled with some really good ones).

I'd say it's probably just behind GF, and Wander, maybe Gumball, AT & RS at it's prime in terms of quality but ahead of WBB, Clarence. Miles ahead of other currently running DXD shows, Milo, PZero, P&P, etc.

That's a deliberate stylistic thing, done in some anime for one example. If it was a mistake they'd be inconsistent about it. Also hair isn't a solid block.

Just saying. You don't have to like it but they're always consistent with it and it's done with characters besides Star; it's just most obvious on her because of the size of her eyes and the color of her hair.

I'd say it'd be objectively shitty animation if the bangs were meant to be solid yellow but for whatever reason they weren't completely filled in during random scenes. As it is now it's just an apparently questionable design choice.

Its an occasionally clever/ most of the time funny cartoon about Star Butterfly a reckless princess from another dimension. There is actual character/ plot development and most mistakes are fixed in later episodes or S2. (The main villain for example goes through major changes)

Animation is consistently good, writing quality is not. The first season can be a pain to get through for multiple reasons

Star's random humor is stayed by Marco's straight man, and now that Star got cucked, we should see less and less of that probably. Now it is only the magical world we need to worry about the humor, considering even the monsters, the comedic villains from last season, are getting serious.

Are you twelve. All three of those things are very basic story tropes, they're not "insane lore" or indicators that the story is good. I love Star and the whole show, but you can't pretend that a large portion of the show's humor (and entire episodes) isn't garbage, or that the lore is even exceptionally good for a show.

I enjoyed even the "bad" episodes like red belt and star vs echo creek, even though a lot of the plot is pretty dumb, there are just enough DAWW moments to make it worthwhile

Well I marathoned the entire show during finals week (no regrets) and I really enjoyed it. It's a light hearted show that doesn't takes itself too seriously but can still hold its own. A few episodes were mediocre sure but most of the episodes were quite funny and enjoyable. Certain moments truly caught me off guard and made me belly laugh and that's hard to find from most cartoons I've seen. And the plot is surprisingly solid. What is Toffees plan? What kind of dark secrets will Star discover? What will Ludo achieve with Star's book? And as others have stated, I also really enjoy the continuity they use throughout the show. Small things that change here and there end up being permanent. And lastly, I enjoy the emotional aspect. I liked the end of season one. The sadness we felt when star recited the whispering spell, the suspense when we realized Toffee was winning. The emotional tension we get with Star at the end of the last episode. I like the chemistry between Star and Marco, and I'll admit, I'm a Starco supporter, but I still enjoy the character development we got between Marco and Jackie.
In the end, I just think it's a nice comfy show that I enjoy rather thoroughly.

My favorite moment maybe in the whole series is the interaction between Star and the laser puppies getting in her way. I forget which episode it was, but they came between her and something she needed and it was a very authentic (and I guess unnecessary) "Sorry, babies" as she pushed them away. I dunno why but that totally warmed my heart. Gave dimension to the puppies' presence in the house and not just that they're a plot device/gag.

I think that the show has a lot of little stuff like that that kind of rewards viewers. It feels like the writers have an appreciation for the continuity they built.

There is a way to get around kisscartoon's anti AdBlock, you just have to run a script with Tampermonkie. I've noticed that trying to access the site with a VPN and the script running will redirect me to a "banned" screen. I have not found a way around this except to visit the site without a VPN.

I'm up to the episode before 'frenemies' and... with a lot of the episodes that aren't fully plot related, it feels like the lead writer guy told the storyboarders about one important thing that was supposed to happen in the episode and left the rest up to them, and instead of building an episode around that thing, they just have random and/or boring bullshit they think is funny happen for eight minutes, and then the 'thing' arbitrarily happens at the end so they can say they put it in there.

Examples:

Mina tries to conquer the the park

A dog from a dimension of sapient dogs tries to steal Star's wand so she can magic away her problems

Skullnick learns about the history of 'her people'

Like these would all be perfectly reasonable episode premises if the storyboarders had actually made episodes about them, but instead they shoved the idea into a small corner so they could have as much room as possible for their own terrible idea of humor

It probably has more to do wtih the team needing to hit an 11 minute run time than a lack of direction, though i do agree that the episodes that reive plenty of proper direction keep this shit to a minimum.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly how the process goes. The story for each episode is usually made by someone who had nothing to do with the storyboarding. It's only rarely that one of the boarders is also responsible for coming up with the original idea.
