Black Panther is just some Black Panther.
Nick Fury is a suicidal psycho that kills hooker Jean Grey just because
Mystique is crazy because reasons.

Ultimates 1 and 2 were infinitely more realistic situations than this

He really isn't. Spider-Man is a dick because Peter is bad at socially interacting, and his best idea to act in costume is the polar opposite of who he is. There's no reality where Peter decides "I'm infected with a thing. Let's go interact with people."

He'd have holed himself up in a lab and either figure out how to cure it, or let himself die so no one else suffered.

Pre-powers Peter absolutely is. It's literally the whole basis of Amazing Fantasy #15 that he is a wall-flower. And for most of USM's first... nine issues? However long it took for him to become Spider-Man. It's cool if you don't know about comics, but don't try and say that Peter knew how to socially interact with people before he got confidence in himself by having powers.

>its another mutants are brutally tortured and sent to death camps alternate universe.

Seriously the mutant thing personally to me never worked like in 616 I never understood how all that mutant hate shit happened when other heroes were around. Then you got people who make their own universes of what ifs and mostly its the mutant hate thing taken up to 40k levels of PURGE THE MUTANTS.

Is there a universe where mutants idunno arent persecuted and or genocided?
>>
>>88614696
There are, but in those the mutants are the ones enslaving and killing humanity.

No basically this ties back into marvels cosmic origins in which some cosmic beings didn't fuck with humanity to help with facilitating super people resulting in normal people undergoing super powers processes without the tampering of cosmic entities meaning they die

Exceptions are Tech heroes like Iron man Pym and mutants which have their own gene for powers but Captain America given the super soldier serum without the tampering of the cosmic made him fuckin insane to what extent is unknown but the avengers were still founded

The Hulk is a example of normal person without tampering because of the fact the gamma still transforms banner into hulk with healing factor intact because he lived through the ordeal but being a normal human being didn't adsorb the gamma magically and gained rapid cancer from the radiation. same for Rick Jones being so close to the blast

all of this added up still doesn't add up to so many characters acting the way they do namely Xavier who might be insane due to his power set since a normal kid hearing everyone's thoughts and can control people would obviously go insane and they make sure to note that mags might have never met Xavier and also might not have any control of his powers since why would he be able to affect the force of his magnetism and how its directed?

Bottom line its shite

Yes, it was supposed to be a parody of Marvels but it's completely shit at doing that because the point of Marvels wasn't "look at how awesome everything is." I mean for fucks sake, Marvels is about a Marvel civilian who doesn't hate superheroes like everyone else and trying to fight against that shitty mentallity ("look up in the sky for once in your miserable lives!") only to have it end with him getting disillusioned with superheroes and giving up on them after realising how flawed they truly are.

The first issue has Namor flooding New York and Phil losing his eye to Namor vs. Hammond. The third issue is about the hatred for mutants. The fourth issue has Gwen Stacy's death.

Ruins completely fails at "parodying" Marvels, because it's not actually parodying Marvels. It's just using the same main character and a small handful of surface level parallels while trying to be edgy for edginesses sake.

>>88614696
Mutant X had that as plot didn't at first, mutants and humans living in harmony. But then they reconnected it to be worse than ever but Havok never noticed. Still people hating mutants never bothered me because its the difference between cops and military compared to militia and vigilantes. The Avengers and Fantastic Four all work with the Government or have some credentials or recognition while mutants can be anyone, you could just be going to McDonald's and bump into a dude who uncontrollably shoots lasers out of his eyes. Easy to understand how that shit might be a little scarier than Captain America.

I've thought about Ruins for a while now. Its a very interesting book that is let down by its lack of depth. Its plot is just an excuse to show us one scene of despair after the next.

Mind you, this was completely intentional. Ellis himself notes that this book was meant to be Comedy (http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=6630). It was never meant to be a deep look at Superheroes, but rather Ellis taking a piss on Marvels.

Which is a shame, because you can see hints of greatness in some panels ( >>88613859 , >>88613357 ). But then you pointlessly edgy shit like Fury killing Jean or Professor X telling people about his willie. I'd love to see Ellis try and create an actual story and not just a Freakshow.

On a sidenote, I think this books gritty, fever-dream artstyle perfectly contrasts with Marvel's Rockwell-esque style

>end
Really? Shitty.

>>88615418
But he expressly says before his rash showed, even though we can see the beginnings of in the next panel. Implication being he probably didn't even know he was infected yet, let alone infectious.

Aren't we fortunate to live in a time where our comic book characters aren't locked up for crimes they MIGHT commit with their powers, where no race is doomed to a slow, agonizing death from a poisoned environment forced upon them by an uncaring government, where figures like the Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man are protecting the earth, where Wolverine isn't dying from exposure to adamantium, and where Professor X cares about mutants and would never confine and disable one simply because it was inconvenient to deal with?

Yeah, it's amazing how I've seen people praise Ruins but seem like they don't get Marvels at all. Usually if someone tries to say Ruins is "the opposite" of Marvels I usually wonder if they actually read Marvels and noticed the stuff you mentioned.

For the most part Ellis wanted to do like a dark humor thing. I get that, and some parts did seem funny. But it was like a joke that got dragged out too long (and he even admits this; the comic was originally supposed to be an issue of What If, but then they expanded it to two prestige format issues.)
>>

To be fair, irradiating spiders tends to not cause super viruses in reality...you know, since a spider isn't a virus, so even if he was showing symptoms of something, he shouldn't have thought he was contagious.

>but rather Ellis taking a piss on Marvels.

I think there's a way to do it and get it to work, but this really didn't work. I'll admit, I did used to like this. But upon a later reread it's rather piss-poor. I mean I still liked some parts of it.

Someone is getting persecuted or genocided in literally every universe except the one Doom rules with an iron fist.

And that's only because Doom genocided everyone else that might persecute or genocide someone.
>>
>>88614060
It has more to do with Ellis not really liking Spider-Man. I think he showed his dislike of the character in a Wizard interview and some other places. In some way I think his dislike is similar to Tucker Stone's dislike of Spider-Man, which is funny since Tucker Stone doesn't seem to think much of Ellis.

Yeah, ruins is not realistic, it's just a dark joke version of Marvels. It' not meant to be deep.

The purpose is to be edgy as fuck, right?

>Kal-El's spaceship crash-lands in downtown Metropolis, causing mass casualties. Baby Kal-El is extracted by the military, spreading alien pathogens that kill everyone in Metropolis and contaminate the water supply, crippling the economy of half the United States. Kal-El is then placed in government custody for experimentation and experiences years of unspeakable torture as his entire body is harvested, to the point where he's reduced to a vegetable longing for death.

>Young Bruce Wayne experiences a nervous breakdown after his parents's murder and is placed in a psychiatric hospital where he is repetedly mistreated, while Alfred embezzles the Wayne fortune and wastes nearly all of it in poor investments. An adult Bruce later breaks out of the psychiatric ward, dresses as a bat-man, and goes on a killing spree before being fatally shot by Jim Gordon during a standoff in which Gordon himself is mortally wounded and dies.

>Barry Allen is gruesomely carbonized by the lightning strike, and the electrific chemicals kill nearly everyone in the Central City Police Station, leading to mass riots and a sharp spike in criminal activity that forces the government to declare it a No Man's Land.

>Aquaman is born a horribly deformed mutant due to the poor blend of genetics between humans and atlanteans. He is exiled by the Atlanteans at his biological father's doorstep and his father then makes him into a sideshow freak paraded around the country.

>Martian Manhunter and Abin Sur are captured alongside Kal-El and subjected to torture. J'onn later commits suicide, in the process accidentally firing a telepathic blast that wipes out everyone in a 50 miles radius, while Abin Sur's power ring is reverse-engineered to create a weapon that malfunctions and wipes out Coast City during a military confrontation with Khandaqian invaders. By that point Hal Jordan had long died in a plane crash.
