If you treat the show itself as canon then they stated outright that there were two Xaviers left before season 1 ended. That mean any given episode could been a completely different one. For the most part each show have it own meaning, there used to be a group of videos online where some guy went all out and gave what each episode hidden meaning is about but I believe all of them got taken down.
