Can someone explain to me what Peter's narrative gets out of tying him back to Earth, or even having him have Earth-related adventures in general? I mean despite the fact that it's his home plane, his very origin is centrally about him leaving Earth and going off to explore the universe. As a result, he has fuck-all for narrative formula there, not much in terms of supporting cast, and barely any way to tie the adventures he has there into his larger themes.

Peter's frosted tips has my peter's tip frosted. Sorry, not sorry.
>>
>>88593185
Fish out of water stories work best when the "fish" is significantly different from the society they find themselves in. Pete's been an Earth man in a space world for decades, so with putting him back on earth, you're limited to insignificant stuff that different, like his space gun. It's pretty boring.
>>
>>88593126
Wolve fuckin' rine.

>>
>>88593220
Isn't Carol like overload supreme commander for space and has governments at her beck and call? I'm having a hard time trying to imagine that she can't provide them a spaceship. Hulk lent Nova Sam a spaceship as if he was loaning him a bike. So it really shouldn't be this hard to get off earth in a halfway decent ship and then just upgrade somewhere else.
>>
>>88593078
Hellooooo new waifu
>>
>>88593087
Carol really let herself go
>>
>>88593349
Right, but that's publication decades, not in-universe decades. Even with the most recent retelling, he goes to space as a young man. And the time he has spent in space, what does it really amount to here?
>>
Why did he break up with Kitty?
>>
>>88593192
Probably because the artist is an actual gay homosexual who likes penises.
>>
>>88593463
Let's look at this another way.

Has he ever spent significant time dwelling on his time on earth or actually revisted earth for any significant length of time?

Is he more comfortable in space or on earth?
>>
>>88592962
Oh man I hope this leads to him getting Ship back.
>>
>>88593142
this is fine
>>
I have no idea what the fuck is going on in the Marvel Universe anymore. I thought Logan was dead, why is he alive and old? When did Kitty get back to Earth? What happened to the GotG? I feel like I need to go back and read like five different previous books just to know what's going on.
>>
>>88593352
She loaned Human Torch a spaceship so he could go visit Thing.
>>
>>88592958
>another Star-Lord volume

>>
>>88593620
>I thought Logan was dead, why is he alive and old?
its old man logan. he got stuck here post secret wars
>>
>>88593543
Clearly more comfortable in Space, but not for lack of understanding Earth customs or culture. He just didn't LIKE his life on Earth and he left. It's not a story about a foreign individual exploring a culture he has to humorously or otherwise find out the customs of. It's a story about a guy who left one culture being forced awkwardly and against his will back into it. And so far, it's been as unenjoyable as a story as it is for Peter, because there's so little to tell a story about.
>>
>>88593095
>this whole page

Fucking kek

I'm glad Zdarsky remembers that Quill hates Earth and doesn't think highly of Earth heroes

This was not nearly as bad as I was expecting
>>
>>88593641
Small parts of the movie crowd will still read it, and when the next movie comes out, it'll see a massive surge.
>>
>>88593307
Look man I want Pete back in space too, honestly I still think his classic stories are the best because he's just bumming around space, trying to learn more about the universe he loves and himself while finding trouble and saving lives in the process. That's my Star-Lord, that's the reason I love him right there.

That said, Zdarsky is not responsible for this setting, Bendis is. And I think Zdarsky is handling it pretty well so far, he certainly seems to get Quill's character better than Bendis or Humphries. I just hope he gets back to space ASAP once Bendis' grounded thing is over.

Also for a comedy writer this book is much less comedic than either Howard or Legendary Star-Lord.

Unrelated

I am pretty sure Abigail Brand hasnt used her superpower in years. She may have used them only in Whedon's run.
She can turn her hands on fire like a blowtorch. I wish she used them at least once here or in the Carol book.
she is a half alien half mutant furry, she fucked beast because her father was an alien as hairy as him. And the Siege Secret Wars tie in by Gillens with her as main character was one of the best books of Marvel in the last 5 years.
>>
>>88593661
Literally the entire god damn point of fish out of water stories is to make the character be put in uncomfortable situations.

As I said in the first place, don't bitch about the setup.

If you have a problem with the content or the pacing or whatever, fine, but the setup is in and of itself fine.

And I laughed at him getting arrested due to no street cred. When was the last time that happened to anyone?
>>
>>88593799
I agree with
>he certainly seems to get Quill's character better than Bendis or Humphries
but because of
>Zdarsky is not responsible for this setting, Bendis is
It doesn't really feel like Zdarsky knows quite what to do with it.
>>
>>88593807
>And the Siege Secret Wars tie in by Gillens with her as main character was one of the best books of Marvel in the last 5 years.

I guess I should have read it.
>>
>>88593842
>Literally the entire god damn point of fish out of water stories is to make the character be put in uncomfortable situations.
Really? Because most of the ones I've seen, Thor, Splash, Avatar even, one of the keys to the genre is less about how uncomfortable they are in the setting, that's part of it, but more about how unfamiliar the world is to them, and the character learning about a world that's not their own. I don't think we have the same idea of what a fish out of water story is, and don't really feel that it excuses this book's threadbare premise.
Also, why do you type like a tumblr user? Each sentence doesn't need its own paragraph.
>>
>>88593856
It's far from my ideal Star-Lord book but so far it's not horrible either. After the last few years that's frankly enough to get my attention, sad as it is. I'm willing to see where he's going with it.

Either way we both obviously love Pete so let's keep our fingers crossed that it's back to space after Bendis is gone.

>>
>>88593807
Pretty sure she used it once in the SWORD miniseries (which was hilarious).
>>
>>88593980
Pete's a good character, and it's a travesty what Bendis and Humphries did to him, but so far, nothing here's a travesty, so I'll keep an eye on it at least.
>>
>>88593985
They turned him into gaybait, which is an inspired decision that I'm totally OK with.
>>
>>88593985

Not "them." Bendis. Everything that has happened to Quill (and by extension the whole team and Cosmic as a whole) since Marvel Now first happened is directly Bendis' fault.
>>
>>88593997
Same, I don't dig the concept but the writing is already so much better than Humphries and Bendis it's not even funny.

>Peter having no friends that aren't the guardians
>doesn't know art but is drawn to starry night
>constantly complaining about earth
>making fun of earth heroes for always fighting

This was surprisingly entertianing for a story that basically cuts against the very concept of the character.
>>
>>88594067
Humphries is the one that pushed Peter with Kitty and wrote books that were pretty much just about shipping them.
>>
>>88594182
thank god he leaked civil war II and went to dc
>>
>>88594067

Dogfucker is who pushed him and Kitty getting engaged, surprisingly enough. You'd think Bendis would have done it considering she's his Jew-girl waifu.

>>

The element gun is such an awesome weapon. It's never been explored to its fullest potential as a tool either. It provides Quill with so many unique opportunities to manipulate the environment with his clever knack for improvising.

Yeah, you know, I think I've come around to the idea that Marvel wants us to see Carol's side as being in the wrong here. Marvel civilians are always on the wrong side of history. If they're in support of this then I think that actually is Marvel's way as positioning Carol as the heel in this narrative.
>>
So I'm kind of out of the loop on all this, but why doesn't Peter just hang out with the other Guardians? They're all stuck on Earth together, right? So what, do they all just hate him all of a sudden or something?

That's the thing though, Bendis wouldn't want her marrying Peter because:

>>
>>88601153
Yeah. Everyone went their own ways at the end of CWII, hence the main issue of getting off planet being less "I don't have a ship" and more "I can't leave without my team/friends, and they all fucked off to who knows where."

The "Grounded" mega-arc is basically a series of one-shots, each about an individual member of the Guardians (which will take for-fucking-ever thanks to Bendis bloating the cast, not that the Guardians' weren't already bloated as fuck in DnA's run). Then once everyone has gotten their solo one-shot, they'll meet back up for Annihilation II (Annihilus & the Brood vs. Earth) then that'll be it for Bendis' run.

Star-Lord and Rocket being the two who got ongoings and therefore will get to appear more than literally once for the duration of Grounded. Gamora got an ongoing too, but it's not set during Grounded so she at least gets to be in space.
>>
>>88601432
>Annihilation II
Fuck you.

>>88593037
>Element gun
Ok so he has it when the series relaunched and had the awful armor costume then he doesn't have it when they went with the movie look and now he has it again?
>>
>>88599815
At least they forced Pete to get rid of that awful costume Bendis tried to assosiate with him,
>>
>>88601527
It's happening, anon. Literally the only hope for it not getting called Annihilation II is that Marvel Editorial realises how awful CWII was and don't want to risk the same thing happening again at Bendis' pen.
>>
>>88601576
He never lost the Element Gun, they just redesigned it from the one McNiven made to a pair of guns identical to the ones he used in the movie.
>>
>>88597807
Aren't they though? I mean the original team was mostly prisoners and morally dubious antiheroes like Drax and Gamora. I think Bendis harps on it too much (and of course he's a terrible writer regardless) but I also think people forget that they really weren't far off from being a ragtag band of well-intentioned troublemakers from the get-go. They clash with the law on Knowhere pretty frequently and get into bar fights. Sometimes they save the day but just as often they wind up making things worse, and their appearance is usually followed by shooting. And then there's the fact that to convince their selfish asses to join up in the first place (because no one else would) Quill and Mantis had to resort to basically brainraping them into saying okay.

Yet they're presented as very lovable and charming through and through in spite of their character flaws. And isn't that why we loved them in the first place?
>>
>>88601527
>Ignoring the fact that there was already a second Annihilation
Yup. Definitely see Bendis doing this.

>>
>>88603265
True although writers after them like presenting them as characters who still revert to their old ways or in the case of Peter and Rocket as thieves which they never were, at least to my knowledge.

The worst is when they don't want to help people without monetary motives and they need one of them tonconvince the group.

Peter made the GotG to guard the universe not to go around his spaceship and get into trouble, why call yourselves Guardians of the Galaxy then? They're shitting on Vance's group.

I always disliked that one shot story in the Guardians of Infinity were Kitty has to convince Peter and Rocket to help a ship that sent for an SOS while Peter and Rocket keep telling her to ignore it because they're scares, made me want the pre Bendis Peter and Rocket to come back and slap them.
>>
>>88607103
It makes me laugh that Bendis says he wants to do a cosmic event and our first thought is that he'll just redo an event someone else already did.
Because doing something original is just so fucking alien to the bald little goblin, and I love that everyone sees that now.

the way to make Transonic great is to let her aerodynamic shapeshifting turn her into a flying vessel everybody can use.

I just chalk that up to flanderization of the MCU versions by lacking writers who didn't read the comics or pay attention to the movie. I hated that backup too but I have to admit the Brood joke really got me.

Same. They have an attention to detail in the musculature that I appreciate. Straight guys tend to just handle muscles by slapping muscles ontop of muscles ontop of muscles and the whole thing just looks like shit. Gay guys are big on that "cut" look that I find more aesthetically pleasing.

fuck off. 99% of the things in marvel cosmic will viciously murder you if you don't put them down immediately. whirlwind farting on it and making a rock wall to deal with the murderous fucking foes is faggotry that needs to be kept in avatar.

thank god movie star lord still knows when to blow a massive plasma induced hole into people.
>>
>>88612522
First off, you're an idiot for not realizing that the element gun is more than capable of murdering aliens. Second, you're an idiot for not realizing that its potential as a tool extends beyond just shooting at aliens, whether lethal or non-lethal. Third, you're an idiot for thinking the only thing that the most important thing in Cosmic is how many aliens you can kill.

Basically, stick to Punisher. Or play Halo or something I guess.
>>
>>88612626
>First off, you're an idiot for not realizing that the element gun is more than capable of murdering aliens.

it's capable but also redundant. anything air and rock can do hot plasma and bullets can do much better.

>Second, you're an idiot for not realizing that its potential as a tool extends beyond just shooting at aliens

which is what? another redundant transportation tool in a world of jet packs, instant teleportation and ftl mini ships? or maybe they can use it a nice little story where the guardians solve planet wide hunger?

>thinking the only thing that the most important thing in Cosmic is how many aliens you can kill.

that's always been the case as much as you want to paint it as edgy chum. killing lots of enemies helps you accomplish your goals by stopping your foes from accomplishing there's, as they are no corpses and can't do shit. cosmic marvel is painted in the blood of trillions of lives from both good and bad sides.

>stick to Punisher.

nah, I'll just watch the 2nd guardians movie, and see cute little babby groot show more nuts than the lame pgfication that is current star lord. you get it? tree/nuts

Behold, the new Death redesign. Wherein she went from a woman covered head to toe in a robe with the hood up to a top tier skank.
>>
>>88612889
It literally can shoot hot plasma. Rocks can function as a bullets. Or maybe Quill is stuck on a hostile alien world where it's better to have a multi-use tool that can both kill aliens and manipulate his environment rather than a simple gun that can only kill stuff. Again, you lack imagination.

And while yes, Cosmic stakes often mean Cosmic body counts if you think putting down aliens is the be-all/end-all you really are stupid. Read a comic older than 10 years for ffs. "Lame PG-ification?" He used the element gun in the classic stories where killing was frequently a topic of exploration.

I hope you enjoy the movie I guess but please stay away from my comics. I recommend you check out Halo or 40K as they sound like much more your speed. Abnett even wrote some 40K.
>>
>>88593220
Seems irrational. Just give them something capable of getting them off the planet under the conditions that they use it and never darken our doorstep again.
>>
>>88613098
>Rocks can function as a bullets.

I'd rather have actual bullets

>Or maybe Quill is stuck on a hostile alien world where it's better to have a multi-use tool that can both kill aliens and manipulate his environment rather than a simple gun that can only kill stuff.

yawn.

>if you think putting down aliens is the be-all/end-all you really are stupid.

the end all is usually saving lives and planets which usually involves killing scores of mook cannon fodder belonging to the entity trying to do the opposite of that. whether they are kree, skrulls, badoon, annihilation wave etc
>He used the element gun in the classic stories where killing was frequently a topic of exploration.

these aren't those stories and this isn't the same peter.

>please stay away from my comics

most people do.
>hur hur halo

I find taking away an element (you get it?) that's a part of a character, in this case his non haste to take lives to save them to be lame

I find adding doofy ways to incapacitate killer enemies so they don't get hurt to be silly

when you try to ape the wild west in space but without the killing that usually went on in the wild west you're just left with funny colored people just holding their dicks in their hand.

but feel free to enjoy you pgfiction of a cosmic hero that hasn't done anything heroically cosmic in years

It's more of a Star Trek thing than an Avatar thing. In a setting where death is trivially-easy, you have to find a solution that requires brains and humanity. Saving, not murdering. Make it a better place, a home to life, not a charnel house.

>>88612889
>or maybe they can use it a nice little story where the guardians solve planet wide hunger?

The murder is ambiguous given the following issues' focus on killing and not killing. Even Peter himself says something to this effect.

At any rate I don't think wonky is the word for it, Englehart knew what he was doing setting up a story of enlightenment. It's a good origin.
