What the hell?
>>
Faster than all, stronger than most, Spider-Sense
>>
>>88576086
Spider-Man isn't top tier remarkable in any field of combat except for his Spider-Sense and stealth.

However, he measures in at a solid above-average superhuman in almost every metric. He has incredible strength, but not Earth-shattering. Incredible speed, but isn't light-speed. Unbelievably durable, but not immortal. A super-genius, but not reliant on gadgets alone. Powerful technique and reflexes, from a decade of fighting experience, and he can keep you covered from afar as well with steel-like webbing from medium range. He's good for big group brawls, he's good in a one-on-one, he's good at infiltration, he's good at being loud and drawing everybody's attention.

He can do it all.

Only two things beat Spider-Man
1) His own over-confidence or mistakes
2) Completely overpowering him across the board with durability (Superman and above level foes.)

People always forget that he's almost Quicksilver fast.
Speedsters usually win their fights.
>>
>>88576086
Because the writer didn't decide to nerf spidey. Normally other writers would nerf his spider-sense which is Peter's stronger ability.

When you don't nerf his sense there's no way those guys can get even close to him.

Other thing to know, Peter was of course holding back because he doesn't want to kill BUT he was very serious of getting the fuck away from them.

Spider-sense + agility are his best tools
>>
>>88576139
>Spider-Man isn't top tier remarkable in any field of combat except for his Spider-Sense and stealth.
Well he's a top tier martial artist now. Which is pretty cool if only the writers didn't forget about it when necessary
>>
>>88576086
This is what happens when Spider-Man is written as focused and competent. Insanely agile, pretty fast, ranged attacks, short-timed precog (Spider-sense), ridiculuously strong.
Of course most of the times there's something else nerfing him, neutralizing some of his powers or taking him out of the battle
>>
>>88576139
>Powerful technique and reflexes, from a decade of fighting experience

Spidey's used to fighting people who are at least as strong as he is as well. It's easy to forget that even Doc Ock is capable of lifting almost thirty tons.
>>
>>88576086
>Rogue in the second panel
She looks like Conan O'Brien or something
>>
>>88576161
>Spiderman
>Speedster

Nigga what? He's fast while swinging from a web but that's not anything special.

And superhero fights are never accurate to what's realistic.
>>
>>88576499
He's canon got the proportionate speed of a spider, scale that up and he's insanely fast.
Just like how no spider's winning any weight-lifting contests, but Pete's got the PROPORTIONATE strength of a spider, and that means he's lifting cars over his head thanks to his spider-powers.
Think about it, if he wasn't moving really fast, how long would it take for him to wall-crawl up the side of any building?
>>
>>88576499
He's much faster then he's ever been depicted in the movies by the time he's an adult. He can easily dodge bullets, move faster then computer systems can visibly scan him, and to normal humans he can disappear in the blink of an eye and seem to vanish. In fact, with his Black suit he's even fast and strong enough to catch bullets in mid-air and hand them back to his assailants.

A jumping and sprinting Spider-Man can cover five miles in two seconds.

He's incredibly fast, it takes a true speedster to overwhelm him.

*Whoops, meant to type two miles in five seconds.

Still impressive, but just wanted to keep it real. Five miles in two seconds is straight-up Flash speeds.
>>
>>88576499
Just this summer I had a tiny little leaping spider in my apartment. I only caught a glimpse of it twice, the second time I got in close to swat it and as I raised my hand it instantaneously vanished into thin air, they're so fast you can't even see them when they move.
>>
>>88576715
>5 miles in 2 seconds

Maybe if he pulled a hamstring.
>>
>>88576738
Well, it's *casual* Flash speeds. They do have a "cruising" superspeed that they use most of the time that's infinitely below their upper limit.

Two miles over five seconds is 1,440 miles per hour.

Almost twice as fast as Barry Allen was (most of the time) in Season 1 of the Flash TV show. Barry had to hit 700 to reverse the first Weather Wizard's tornado in the pilot. He had to really struggle to break the 800ish needed to take out Girder's metal shell.

Comics Spider-Man is a low-tier speedster, but cartoons and movies tend to ignore that because he's not seen as that kind of hero, and it makes it hard to write scenes where he gets caught or snagged by mobsters or the police, or even by most of his Rogue's gallery.
>>
>>88576853
Because I blame it for the accident that fused these robotic arms to my back.
Plus, bug in my apartment. This is the normal kill-happy human response.

It's just yet another thing to add to the pile of how creepy he'd look in RL to those that don't understand he's a good guy.

Priest was pretty whiny about it
>The fight was re-drawn at the ninth hour because of the raving of Marvel staffers who were, themselves, divided over how that fight should have gone. As originally approved, written and drawn, Spidey got the webs kicked out of him by Wolverine, essentially on the strength of Spidey ignoring his own Spider-Sense (due to other fish-out-of-water circumstances in the story, a hesitation that was foreshadowed in the very first scene in Times Square). I really liked that story until we were ready to turn the book in and all the office in-fighting started.

>Ultimately, I believe the then-EIC caved in to a particularly loud voice who kept arguing that Wolverine could never land a glove on Spider-Man. This was the simplistic, Crayola colorforms through-line of thought this particular voice was famous for, and it was a way of thinking that totally worked against the complex story we were telling. It was applying Baywatch rules to Schindler’s List. The whole point of SVW was to pull Spidey out of his element and confront him with hard doses of reality that made him question who he was, what his purpose was, what his methods were, etc. All of that was designed to play into the moment of the brawl where he’s facing a ruthless killer while no longer capable of trusting his own instincts, hence a Wolvie slice-‘n-dice.

>Rules are no fun unless you break them. And you need the craft and the respect for the character to know when and how to break them. SVW was all _about_ breaking rules, and breaking the rule (that Spider-Man cannot be hit) was set up with _great_ effort in many ways throughout the story. Spider-Man absolutely *can* be hit, but you have to set it up properly and work within the established rules of the character.
>>
>>88580359
>>88580140
>Every scene in SVW was about how wrong Peter’s instincts were, from the opening scene in Times Square, to Peter’s midnight romp across Berlin with Logan (as Peter Parker, using his web-shooters and paranoid he’d be spotted). From his fear of commitment to Mary Jane to his complete mis-reading of Ned Leeds. *Everything* was there for one reason: to enable Wolverine to hit him at the end of the book. To properly set the stage for a vitiation of the Basic Rule About Spider-Man: that he can’t be touched.

>Changing the fight ruined the book, IMO, because the B-story was all about Spidey not trusting his instincts, and that story went nowhere because somebody parroted a “rule” and banged a drum and held his breath until the EIC caved.

>>
>>88581263
If you take everything that is said of and about and by him literally, he's much, much more powerful than elder gods. He's more powerful than a Celestial or an Elder of the universe. And if you stack up the list of powers he's used just once or for one arc and then never seen or heard again, it's not even close. He's smarter than Reed Richards and faster than Quicksilver and stronger than 20 Thanos's and he can time travel and has earth powers and healing powers, he can hear prayers from anyone anywhere and teleport intergalactic distances, he has rune powers and Odinforce and whatever silver age superman shit Kirby thought would be fun to draw one week and and and and and and and and and.

Of course, the stories *extremely reliably* show him to not actually be that powerful, and bullshit powerwank shit like the "He's half elder god" or "Mjolnir can travel through time" and other nonsense is routinely neglected until the "truth" or "canon" of it is restricted to the ravings of powerlevel obsessed dipshits on 4chan whining why Thor didn't just off panel the Phoenix Force and show up with a sandwich.

Well, let me tell you: Flaming Garbage Can Thor with a dash of Simonsen and Kirby died in Secret Wars while flirting with Hyperion. Now you just get Aaron Thor.
Enjoy your stealth retcon.

why Spider-Man and Wolverine fight on namek?
>>
>>88576086
When Secret Wars came out and I was reading it as a kid, this scene triggered me because I LOVED the X-men and I couldn't wrap my brain around how they could all be defeated by Spidey on his own.
Much later I re read it after becoming more familiar with Spider-man and agreed it's how it would go down.
At that stage of things the X-men were really good, and superb with teamwork, but had very little experience in initiating a fight with a Hero. While Rogue arguably had a danger sense that could match Spidey's, the writers didn't acknowledge it as part of her power set stolen from Ms Marvel until later. The rest of the team wouldn't have a prayer, especially with 30 foot tall ceilings in that chamber for Spidey to use.
>>
>>88580199
I'm still salty that spiderman took them out, specially after he got Phoeniuxcolossus punched. He should be dead at that point.

Once of the reasons I like The Amazing Spider-Man movie is that they nail the "moving like a spider" look. When Spider-Man crawls around the Lizard webbing him up, it's fucking creepy as hell.

I would love to see a comic where Professor X invites Spidey over just to wreck the X-Men. Like, he notices the team has become whiney little bitches who think they're hot shit and can't be beat, and the Professor goes "Hey, I'll pay you $500 to teach them a lesson about teamwork and arrogance, and I'll double it if you can make Scott or Logan piss themselves." Spider-Man's like, "Fucking deal! On my way. Wolverine talked shit last team-up, payback's a bitch. Also X-23, single?"

In some other thread, some Anon said that Spider-Man's powers are fairly good on their own, but exponentially better when used in unison, and I like that explanation, as well as similar ones given ITT.

>>
>>88576086
Spidey has super fast reflexes and can jump very far, or kick/punch really strong, but he isn't a speedster. He can't outrun a car for example. But he can move fast by making small jumps; small enough so gravity and air does not sap his momentum. That's why he is so deadly in an urban environment, but put him in a suburban one where buildings are sparse, and he is much less effective (anyone remember that old story where he trails a robber to suburbia and completely messes up everything?).

Now, that whole X-Men fight happened in a relatively small enclosed space. There he can keep bouncing from wall to ceiling to ground to wall at full speed, and rely on his spider sense to prevent him from making mistakes. His legs are strong enough to get him to jump faster than anyone could follow, and his reflexes are fast enough that he can keep fighting at that speed.

That's what it means for him to go MAXIMUM SPIDER. It's the same thing as how parkour runners can bounce around to climb walls and scale buildings, but it is magnified by a hundred.

So like he said, give him a little space, and he can take down anyone. He took down the X-men, he took down Titania in a solo fight (the same Titania who just beat She-hulk to near death), he fought the original x-men in their X-factor incarnation to a standstill while being so sick that he couldn't stand on his legs, he wore down Eric Masterson Thor, he beat fucking Firelord unconscious (even if it took half a day).
>>
>>88580359
You know, if that's the situation he found himself in, maybe he should have actually created a situation that fit his idea instead of being a pissbaby.
>>
>>88581851
Spidey didn't take out shit. He got them in a bad mood and they took each other out. Which is more in character for Magik than anything was for anyone else in the whole crossover.
>>
>>88576086

wait OP did Claremont write it?

anyway Spider-Man is fucking unstoppable but he never goes all out/is a kid so he never goes all out. I remember someone on /co/ writing a whole thing about like in the 70s he got nerfed real bad but then Stern maybe brought back Spidey as he should be
>>
>>88580525
>I'm pretty sure that Spidey could beat Wolverine even without his spider-sense

I'd have my doubts. Wolverine has seen 100+ years of fighting. Even if we go by 70s/80s Wolverine, he'd still have 2-3x the experience on Parker (who was way younger then, early 20s at most).
So it would be a young guy who mostly relies on his spider sense, fighting a seasoned veteran who never tires, all of his hits are crippling blows, and all of his moves are muscle reflex.
>>
>>88580278
Yeah
>>
>>88581940
and awesome.
>>
>>88585779

If his legs are so goddamn strong why doesn't he take up a kick focused martial art and boot the shit out of everything?
>>
>>88585989
There's a few panels in the first civil war where spidey's fighting cap and he thinks to himself that even with all his spider powers, cap still managed to rush him down and break some ribs because of his training. So yah, a younger Parker would definitely have trouble with Wolverine.
>>
>>88576957

Oh god that's creepy and hilarious.

In all these years I never imagined him actually crawling at the speed of a spider.
>>
>>88586458
>If his legs are so goddamn strong why doesn't he take up a kick focused martial art and boot the shit out of everything?

Because why bother taking up a martial arts when you can jump 50 feet high, bench press train cars, and have reflexes faster than an Olympic athlete?
>>
>>88580641
Psychic, not physical.
In a What If, he becomes an agent and hones his spider sense to the point of being actually psychic about danger. He'd stop an attack before the attacker thought to attempt one.
>>
>>88581264
I like totem shit. Always have, and I wish they brought it to the foreground more often.
>>
>>88576896
I think thats the idea behind Spiderman the guy make all the criminals shit their pants thats why angry Peter is scary the bug looking creep comes crawling at maximum speed and you're at the target there nothing you can do.

Some criminals un NY probably think Spidey is some abomination behind the suit
>>
>>88586585
And that's almost universally agreed to be high class jobbing. It's not at the level of the surfer armbar but not even a year later he was casually bitchslapping Kingpin while giving him purple nurples.
Kingpin is/was (I only add was since it's come to my attention that at a certain point Cap actually was superhuman) superior in strength, speed and fighting ability at one point and Cap had to be rescued by a bird to survive his fight vs Kingpin. If you're wondering why Kingpin is stronger than peak human it's because Kingpin is a (non-X-gene) mutant with higher muscle density/mass.
The two fights really just don't add up.

>SOMEBODY STOP ME!
God I love Spider-Man
>>
>>88592042
He still does, though. During this storyline, he just got off of trading blows with Thor and the Phoenix on equal ground. The Power Cosmic is still his to command. Galactus doesn't depower his Heralds when they leave his service.

Also, the O.G. symbiote didn't amp his powers at all. That's an invention of the 90s animated series that got carried on to every other version. The reason the symbiote gives people powers now is because it copied Peter's. At this point, it's basically just a shapeshifting costume that provides infinite webbing, not something that makes him faster and stronger.
>>
>>88592154
The symbiote didn't make him evil, either, but some changes are for the better.
>>
>>88592490
Yeah, to be honest the original symbiote story was kind of weak. There was really no reason for Spidey to reject it. It gave him infinite webbing, it held stuff for him, it could shift into any clothing he wanted... Basically, it was a great accessory. The only problem was with heat and sonics.

The TAS invention of "It gives him great power BUT it makes him super-thyroidal to the point where he's fine with killing people" really did make things a lot better. I can totally see why it became the standard.
>>
>>88576086
>>Spider-Man decimates the X-Men
>What the hell?

Spider-Man is canon one of the strongest hand-to-hand guys ever.

Super fast, super strong, very durable, able to dodge almost all incoming attacks due to spider sense, also has a a significant ranged ability to slow/immobilize/hamper most physical foes, can blind enemies at range, can exert his high super strength at range, etc, etc, etc.

Just because he's old doesn't mean he's weak.
>>
>>88592534
Well, in the original, he gets upset about a living creature attaching itself to him, but it doesn't really come across as dangerous, especially as far as the Marvel Universe goes.

>>
>>88581264
Given the amount of time he's been a hero, it makes sense he'd have a fighting style, even if it's unique and self-taught. Shang-Chi mostly just had him learn the basics of Kung Fu, and then mix that with his natural abilities.
