Lobdell didn't just put the characters together and said "Here, they are team now and they like each other just because!" Instead, he's taking his time to build them and the relationship is coming naturally between them in result.

Lobdell just get them. He has a better handle on Jason's voice than any writer and he was even able to make us cares about Bizarro and Artemis and love the idea them as a team.

There's a good balance between drama, humor and action that made the story very enjoyable. The interactions between the characters are just great and Black Mask is really interesting as a villain for the first arc. I also love the way Lobdell is connecting Jason's past with his present.
