How did people feel about this?

Both the scene and the movie in general. And returning to status quo at the end.

I might have seen it once when I was a kid, but I refuse to now after realizing Arnold is basically the villain of the movie.

If Nickelodeon were smart they would've opted for the Jungle Movie as the theatrical film and Arnold: the Movie as a made for television special. From what I can remember, it was decent and watchable.
>>88562828
That was the original plan right? This was supposed to be a tv movie, but nick wanted to use this as a test to see how well the jungle movie could do in theaters.
>>88562614
it felt like a really long episode of HA!
>>88562614
I've been rewatching Hey Arnold on the splat block recently and I don't see what the appeal was as a child
>>88562614
>it outgrossed the Powerpuff Girls movie
there is no god

This was the worst possible way to handle Helga's confession.
Also, compare the Hey Arnold poster and the Jimmy Neutron poster. Seriously, put them side-by-side.

>Arnold is basically the villain of the movie.
How?
>>88562614
Pretty mediocre movie with bad pacing and contrived scenes.(Helga revealing her love for Arnold, only to pretend like it never happened afterwards) is the worst offender. It's pretty obvious it was meant to be a an hour long TV special that was padded out to standard movie length.

Agreed. Arnold's show most commonly consisted of two fields of characters. The boarders and the other kids. And guess which people typically found more interesting?
The Jungle movie would have much more featured the other kids.
But on the topic of the confession and return to status quo, I don't like it but I don't hate it either. If I'm optimistic, it felt like Arnold was giving Helga a chance to reach her confession-point on her own, instead of being accelerated by the setting. Fits his character pretty well there.

Cartoon movies during that era were a fucking train wreck of bullshit that didn't make sense with what actually happened in the cartoons. They all felt like one really long episode.
>>88562614
That wasn't a return to status quo, that was Arnold allowing Helga a graceful retreat.
Had the series continued and Arnold still acted obliviously, then you could call it a return to status quo. We shall see how this plays out in the new movie.

Now put the Rugrats in Paris poster and South Park: Bigger Longer and Uncut poster together with them

Usually I dislike this argument as regards to the South Park and Simpsons movies, but it's true in the case of Hey Arnold: The Movie. It doesn't do anything that it couldn't have done on TV; even the animation seems barely better than the show.

Goodbye

>There will never be an Arnold vs. Jimmy movie
