Honestly, that's not a bad thing. Just look at DeFalco's 6 issue Clone Saga mini. It was really good! Clone Saga 2's biggest problem was being too drawn out with too many contradicting M. Night Shamalamadingdog-esque twists. A condensed version of that with less "IT WAS OSBORN ALL ALONG" is fine with me.

I still don't think you should waste money on it, but it's still the best Spider-man arc that Slott's done since Superior ended.

Hell one of Peters biggest development related to his education was him quitting it due to the fact he thought being Spidey was better. It sells well, they've got another Spider-Man book and can shut up the people still mad about OMD. I mean this seriously. Pretty much once the shine on the character wore off Marvel would constantly announce the book's cancellation, get a pissed off response from the loyal fans, retract it, and repeat for a few years. Eventually they tried another way and came up with Anya Corazon but again, fan anger caused them to drop the attempt, change her name from Spider-Girl to Araña and relaunch the book as Amazing Spider-Girl. Then they cancelled that, relaunched again as Spectacular which was webcomic, then finally killed it for good around the same time as Grim Hunt where Anya got the Spider-Girl name for real. Obviously the way she was treated in Spiderverse was terrible too.

The character is likely a reminder of what's seen as a lot of things Marvel views as bad (Clone Saga, the bankruptcy period, Peter's marriage) combined with never high sales so Marvel absolutely hates her. They were just hamstrung by her fans but so many of them have likely left at this point that they can now give the character her "proper" treatment without fear.
