I read this lately, and I could not help but think about the meme war.
Grant Morrison is an author who has been fooling around with sigilis, magick and memes long time ago, and this issue is very interesting to read if you got the recent events in mind.
What do you think about it?

I'm actually incredibly surprised we haven't heard from Morrison about this stuff. Hell, even Neil Gaiman knew about the memes becoming reality.
>>88515991
According to a recent interview, he doesn't even use the internet so this would explain that. I suppose the the web is not a source of knowledge as much as a information noise place.
I didn't like it that much. Fine comic, but I preferred Society, Thunderworld and Guidebook.
I've come to the conclusion that being a kid of "the Homestuck generation", I'm just straight up incapable of appreciating all the Morrison works people praise for how Weird and Meta they are.
Like, I get what Ultra Comics was doing, I just don't think it was very entertaining and it isn't unique enough for me to overlook that. One anon's take was that it was an intentionally bad, cliche and banal comic, and I'm inclined to agree.
>>88516216
That part was disturbing. I think the way the created Ultra Comic is just the way the industry creates new characters or events. Like some self-aware system who exists just to profit.
Pic related, notice the 'memesmiths'.
>>88515847
>What do you think about it?
The way Morrison describes Sigil Magic is pretty much exactly the same way Meme Magic works.
>>88516337
Maybe the experiment of a memetic superhero failed because Morrison game is weak.
Nameless was very promising, but the guy was so high in just he knows what, that he just destroyed all the continuity of the story. Very asshole.
Coincidence is not causality ya dinguses.
>>88516539
Manufacturing coincidence is the name of the game, boyo.
>>88516539
Nobody has said that is casuality. Is the concept of meme and how has been used what matters. Based on similar principles of use and application we have a sketchbook of what a group of people did time after. The viralization of an idea who gained momentum.
Ultra Comic wanted to canalize human emotions into something 'good' or meaningful. This story, the concept and the author failed.
Pepe achieved it.
>>88516402
It'd be hilarious if chief memesmith was guy in expensive suit while guys who actually work are bald, bearded guys.Although, DC is filled with chads so maybe Ultra's "writers" would be jacked as fuck?
>>88516676
The ultra's chief looks chad as fuck.
>>88516337
Your only conclusion should be that if you read and enjoyed HS your taste is fucked forever and won't be able to discern what a good comic book is to save your life

>>88515847

>>88516816
Cool.
>>88517143
That series also talked about gentrification of superhero worlds. Which is in fact the best way to describe what has been happening to superhero comics the last 3-4 years.
BTW, It was confirmed if Grant Morrison was aware of the 4chan Hypercrisis? The egg talk too much 'anon' for me.
>>88516997
No. I'm just wondering why is it hard for you to write like a normal human being.
I'm watching once upon a time right now, and season 4 has started to get into the meta-narrative archetypes, particularly the "heroes win, villains eat shit" nature of their universe.
I'm starting to see hypercrisis in other aspects of my daily life as well and I'm scared.
Hypercrisis thread?
>When it was announced October 21 that the scantily-clad comic book character had been chosen as a figurehead for the feminist campaign, many UN workers protested.
>A UN spokesman, who explained campaigns using fictional characters often went on for a few months only, said the character's role at the 193-member state organisation will now end on Friday.
Appointed ambassador of the U.N. on October 21 and dropped of the role in December 13th, Wonder Woman lasted 52 days as a real life figure.
>>88518127
Oh, sorry, english is not my native language. I'm using Google traslator.
>>88518364
>I'm starting to see hypercrisis in other aspects of my daily life as well and I'm scared.
Can you elaborate? Because, this is how the shit start to happen.
>Wonder Woman lasted 52 days as a real life figure.
Source or is shit.
>>88518962
And yes, Hypercrisis thread.
What is a hypercrisis?
>>88519176
The source is right there mate, what the hell.
21-31 Oct= 10 days
1-30 Nov= 30 days
1-13 Dec= 13 days
But she was dropped on the last day, thus, 52 days on the role.
>>88518962
>When it was announced October 21 that the scantily-clad comic book character had been chosen as a figurehead for the feminist campaign, many UN workers protested.
>people protest against a character who's known as a champion for women and and a feminist icon because she doesn't cover up enough skin

BTW, do you have some recommended lectures about the hypercrisis?

Partly the overarching Meta-Narrative that Grant Morrison has worked into most of his comics, and has been observed to spread further.
The name came from a project he was working on but discarded and worked the pieces into Final Crisis, Seven Soldiers, 52, and Multiversity.
It's also partly the theory that the DC Universe has gained sentience.
It's the sort of picture that builds over time

>>88515847
Is it weird that I thought that this and The Just were the weakest offerings in Multiversity? At least the Guidebook did what it set out to do. Mastermen was great but felt too much like a teaser for bigger things, compared to Thunderworld. Even Pulp Society fits because it ties into how fucked things are on both Earths-20/40.
Pax Americana was the absolute best, though.

>>88515847
I agree but Ultra Comics was kind of self-masturbatory.
>>88516216
Yeah I agree, I thought Ultra Comics would be my favorite story but I liked the Just (because of it's critique of shallow modern culture) and Thunder World and the Society more.
But I like that page you posted, how it kind of sums up you average super hero's publication history.
You know what though? I'd love to see Ultra Comics cameo in every other DC thing from now on. Like if you have a panel where someone's reading a comic in the background, it's Ultra. In an animated show you can have someone watching a super hero cartoon and it's Ultra.
That'd be fun.
I don't want him to be totally forgotten about.
So what's real and what's fake and if fiction itself is real what does that mean for us?
>>88522012
>But I like that page you posted, how it kind of sums up you average super hero's publication history.
Golden Age, Silver Age, Bronze Age, Dark Age. Lacks a soulless crisis crossover event from the Post-Crash Age, and getting replaced with a bi black transgirl in the Current Year Age
>>88522182
everything is real, anon.
>>88522290
Except Marvel quality! Heyoo!
>>88522182
It all points towards one thing, we too are beings of meme magic. We justknow about our situation, and are becoming more aware of ourpotential as a unified species. But all of this begs the question. Who memed us into existence? If memes are manifestations of our imagination, they're little more than dreams. Who is the Dreamer?
>>88522373
Well that didn't turn out as I expected.
So, Hand is - epitomy of edgy reader who dictates to writers (Gentry) how to write gore and dark shit while Ultraman is any modern suffering superhero character?
>>88522518
>epitomy
Can't be epitomy of anything if you are a one off OC never to be used or mentioned again.
>>88515847
>unironically calling it "Meme Magic"
Pepe didn't elect Trump.
People have been hating Hillary Clinton for decades, since when Bill was Governor. Adults who maintain some semblance of being productive adults don't hang out on /pol/, hating Hillary was their meme and they've been doing since before most of you were born.
Pepefags are just millennials riding the coattails of what the GOP had already accomplished decades ago.
In an attempt to not get banned for "off topic",
Chaos Magik, as perpetuated by Morrison, really strikes this obnoxious like where it gets played off as "real" magic, because that's cool and gets you laid, but nearly everything else that comes out of his mouth on the subject is pretty much normal semiotics and how culture works.
Whatever gets you laid, Grant.
I was disappointed with Ultra Comics once it started becoming less ambiguous that it was a one-off allegory complaining about the industry. The concept was pretty cool on its own, and I'm kind of mad that Grant blew his load on Multiversity in a context that won't ever develop the idea.
>A super-hero that is literally every person who has ever read the comic and engaged with the character.
>>88521858
Here's your (You)
>>88522641
t.Gentry
Chaos Magick is about change reality. Grant use this concept to create a meme comic using the 4th wall breaking resource, in order to influence people memeplex, inducing the readers to change their mindset in something positive.
The attempt lacks of strength, it fails to change reality as the Invisibles in the 90s could and now Ultra comic is just an anecdote.
Sad.
>>88523268
And how would you have done it for it to suceed anon?
>>88522641
Do people in Wisconsin and places like that even care about memes? Because that's really the only reason he won. He certainly didn't get by on popularity.
>>88523291
I'm thinking about it.
>>88523319
He won because people in less populated states and towns hated Hillary even more.
Now let's stop talking about politics.
>>88515847

maybe its too confusing for the average comic book demographics? What is it?

>>88523511

>>88523511
Superdemon is making an appearance in Superman soon. I'm sure there's people who want to use some of it, but DC wanted to focus on Rebirth before they started letting writers go crazy.
These threads should be the highlight of this board instead of its most disgusting aspect.
>>88523511
My theory is that in the next 5 years he'll use his experience editing Heavy Metal to dethrone DiDio and take the top position.
>>88523718
That's what happens when you have something good and all the casuals that don't even read comics rush in to be included too.
>>88523788
Imagine if Morrison became EIC of DC one day?
>>88523511
They actively eschew rich and fertile ideas that could create a cohesive universal playground for great storytelling and instead focus solely on the bottom line. So Gentry.
>>88521637
Whoa what issue?
>>88523899
It should have happened a long time ago if this was a good world.
>>88523511
There's an upcoming Superman arc using the multiversity worlds. I guess it's just lack of interest from other writers. It seems like only Tomasi consistently follows Morrison's additions. Outside of that, there was only, what? Grayson with Inc's Spyral stuff.
There's a random spic in this thread who can't even form a proper sentence, let alone write words correctly, replying to everyone, including himself and its really offputting.
Just wanted to get that off my chest.
>>88523941
Written by Robbie Morrison... coincidence?
>>88524016
I could understand why. I mean, if you had an idea about a story featuring Atomic Batman, you could just use regular Batman instead.
Alternate universes mean less focus on continuity. This does mean that authors have a perfectly clean slate to work with, but look at how Earth 2 turned out.

This is what I was asking about in my post. I guess we can chalk it up to writers not reading his stuff too. But I want to write for DC. I'd make use of it for sure, even if it's just a small cameo.
Also, I think Morrisson and DC should make use of the Infinite Crises properties they made for the game. It had five different unique universes, like the Mecha-verse. I think if Multiversity is continued in anyway, they can say those universes were destroyed by the Gentry and salvage the characters from them.
