The original Chaos! run by Pulido and Hughes is decent enough if you're into fantasy and heavy metal fare. It's wordy as fuck, with that kind of 90s dark purple prose going on, but it's decent. It maintains a fair bit of momentum after Hughes dies, but after the reboot in 2000 it's just meh.

I've only seen a handful of issues of that, I stopped shortly after the reboot. But yeah, it's kind of a hard balance to hit, because all that original stuff is "serious" but in the same way a Manowar album is serious. It's overblown and ridiculous but very earnest about it. And if you tone the metal craziness down, even if you keep the earnestness, it still loses its flavor.

When I say "serious" I mean "make it less cheesecake and ultraviolence", of course. I think it was published by Crossgen or something, had Lady death in fully covering outfits (with much more modest proportions) and it was a pretty straightforward generic dark fantasy story. I didn't read more than a few issues honestly because there was nothing that made it stand out in any way from any other generic dark fantasy comic.

The main reason Lady Death was popular was the late Steven Hughes' art, definitely not Pulido. He's not that bad but I respect him more as a publisher than a writer.
