calm down, boyo. I can use google, but a recommendation from some anon seems more appealing. It will also get me some stuff that I wouldn't have been able to find otherwise.

>>
>>88482922
Whoa there. No need for all that, m8.

Honestly, it is a bit lazy. Instead of searching some huge list of webcomics. If someone recommends me a comic, there must be a reason that they liked it enough to recommend to some stranger. People like to share things that they enjoyed or that moved them. It's worth checking out those webcomics over some rando off a list for that alone. Different people will have different tastes, but that's okay. It's good to see a different perspective, and this will let me see a wider variety of possibly good comics while still limiting the bad ones. I'll give it a fair chance, and drop it if I don't like it. I did this with Assigned Male. A roommate recommended it, I checked it out, and I thought it sucked. I read a fair amount to get past potential early installment weirdness, but I still dropped it after a while. That's what I'll do for these recs.

I suppose I am limiting myself somewhat on the stuff that I actually check out, and I'm not actually discovering these things for myself. Who cares, though? It's kinda vain to think that I can find everything on my own. I wouldn't have discovered most music that I love without some help from someone else. Maybe I would have really enjoyed some underrated comic out there with only 200 followers. That's not really much of a loss There are a /lot/ of bad comics out there, and more good ones than I will ever have the time to read or the knowledge of. That's no huge loss, honestly. It's like getting a book from the library. Yeah, I could just pick a book at random. I probably will at times. But most of the time, I'd rather read something that has some backing to it. Maybe I'll ask a friend what they've read recently or just check out a classic that I've never read. That's why I'm asking some strangers to share a few things that they are passionate about, or at least enjoy. I don't always want to wade through a sea of meh and less to find some diamond in the rough.
>>
>>88483265
Fuck you, I am not reading that wall of text. There is nothing you could possibly write to justify being a lazy casual and a mindless sheep. Fuck off, search for your own reading material, and stop shitting up the board with your disgusting ignorance.
>>
>>88483530
>starts with fuck you
>accuses laziness but won't read a rebuttal
>proceeds to call names (unbased ones at that)

That aside, it's really not healthy to harbor so much anger and venom, anon. I know this is 4chan, but really consider things for a second. You're acting pretty maliciously towards someone whose only offense against you was a post you didn't like. Maybe I held a philosophy you disagreed with at best? The only things we know about each other are contained in a few thousand words. I hope you got something out of this.

We live in a gray world, anon. Things are not so balck and white as "mindless sheep" and whatever you consider yourself. For all your talk of laziness and effectively complacency, you don't seem to be accepting of the idea that you might not be right about everything. Maybe there are reasons to be lazy sometimes, maybe there aren't. Maybe it's a gray area. You didn't really give an opposing view much thought there.

Rec threads only serve to make the board worse. That is a fact that everyone chooses to ignore because of the old "/co/ is love" meme. What happens is that fake nerds like you come here asking for names you can spout off to make yourselves look as though you belong, when it's obvious you just want to spew memes and shitpost. You have no real interest in any of these titles. If you did, you'd have looked them up yourself instead of asking around. Instead of actually reading any of this stuff, you're just going to use them to pretend like you care. People like you are fucking disgusting, and definitive proof that the Internet was a mistake. Kill yourself.
>>
>>88483947
You're clearly memeing me here, but here it goes anyway

Rec threads let people share the stuff they think is good and find new stuff. I wouldn't want them to be 50% of the board, but I like them in moderation. It's fair if you don't like them, and I can see why you might not, but I wouldn't say that they definitively make the board worse.

Honestly, I'm probably gonna check out a fair number of the comics in this thread. If I get caught up in enough of them, I might stow away the list for later and forget about it after some time, but that's about it. I admit that I enjoy webcomics on a somewhat casual level. I keep up with them when I have extra time, but they don't consume my every thought. I don't have a great knowledge of them, and I don't intend to spend hours upon hours scouring the net for the sake of them. I understand this about myself, and enjoy them unironically despite that. Some people simply want to enjoy things without some ulterior motive of irony and shitposting on the internet and seeming like they know stuff. It's okay not to care about things at the most extreme level. Call me a normie, but it kinda baffles me that that was what you assumed my motives were.

No, they foster intellectual inbreeding and force a singular accepted opinion instead of allowing people to form their own thoughts. Seen it many times.

>Honestly, I'm probably gonna check out a fair number of the comics in this thread.
No you won't. Again, seen this. Oh you say you'll check them out, but you continue to display little to no substantial knowledge of any of the topics of the board. It keeps fucking happening, the amount of idiot casuals increases, the outright attack of anyone who disagrees with party doctrine intensifies, the forced memes get more obnoxious, and I continue to search in vain for a decent conversation with someone about the things I like. Fuck you.
>>
>>88484212
Thanks, m8

>>88484228
wew lad, that's a lot of assumptions about my intentions and personality

I looked it because I saw a page from it and reverse image searched it. I caught up because I liked it. The fact that it was popular made this more likely to happen, sure, but that wasn't the reason. As far as my "precious time" goes, I'm not gonna read things I don't like, but that doesn't mean I won't read something just because it's not well known

>>88484303
Your comment on fostering inbreeding is fair to some degree. They've helped me find a lot of new stuff for other media, but you do see a lot of "I am new to this, what should I consume?" which is often met with the same responses. Maybe mine were just uncharacteristically good threads, but there were a lot of more niche titles for the more experienced. Still, this results in a lot of newer people who have all consumed a lot of the same stuff and been told the same things about that stuff. That doesn't mean that they can't form their own thoughts on it. They would be influenced, certainly, but you don't just like something because everyone says it's good.

On your second point, there's no real way for me to prove that I'm gonna check them out, so I'll have to drop that. I will read them, but think what you like. As far as the state of the board goes, I do empathize with what you're saying. I'm not really a physical comic guy, so I can't speak to that, but a most of the cartoon threads are shipping and memes these days. I like SU as much as anyone, but there's a good reason it lives in /trash/ during hiatuses. I would argue that I will eventually start showing more knowledge on the subject of webcomics, but that's kinda hard if you don't think I'm gonna read these anyway. It's kinda unfair to assume that I am perpetuating this cycle, but I can't blame you too much with the state of the cartoon generals. It is possible that I'm not a memeposting hiveminding turbofag, though.

What you and every other retard on this board is doing is influencing the opinions of newcomers a d fostering intellectual inbreeding. I think they are two different creators, see http://comicfury.com/profile.php?username=view

People confused the two names, but, IMO, there's sufficient differences in art.

It ran from 1996 to 2007 and is on reruns now; I think I started somewhere around 1997. Back then there were few tolerable webcomics, but I remember also following Superosity, Bruno the Bandit, and Bobbins.

Superosity is still going. I couldn't stand the art then, and it hasn't changed one whit since.
Bruno The Bandit I lost track of because it was too much like a political cartoon. Not that it was too political, but the art and set-ups were like Kelley from the Onion without the self-awareness.
Bobbins... didn't that turn into Scary-Go-Round?

You know who else from that era is still going? El Goonish Shive, and Zebragirl.

Bobbins became Scary Go Round, yes. And then later it turned into a comic called Giant Days, which follows a bunch of precocious kids.
I stopped following Allison's comics at that point, as I found the kids to be less interesting than the adults.
He's still drawing webcomics, and I think has produced a few floppy comics for some imprint. His art has improved a bit, his writing is more or less the same. His characters do some good bantz, but they tend to be the same cluster of jokes done over and over.

Giant Days started as a three issue online trial drawn by Allison and then pitched to Boom imprint to be drawn by better artists. Esther and her boyfriend The Boy were the only Scarygoround characters to transfer to Giant Days (except for brief Erin cameo).

The early web versions are gone now.
