That's the fun of it. Nobody was in the wrong. It was just a series of misunderstandings that ultimately led to the movie's plot. Goofy wanted to be a better parent, but didn't want to be overbearing like Pete. Max wanted to have a life, but he needed to be empathetic with his father who tries very hard to make him happy.
