On, and then the fucking homeworld gems came and suddently there are fans of the show everywhere. Fuck you. Just fuck all you. You grasped at this show as if it was your mother's tit. You shit on the storyboarders when you were hailing them the day before. Fuck you. You wanna know what ruined this show if it's really ruined? You did. All of you did.
Also the show has not the same feel as the beginning because we undercovered the mysteries. Come the fuck on.

Monster of the week =/= slice of life. There can be overlap, but after season one there have been many episodes that don't even feature a monster or any real threat.

Episodes like Frybo and Cat Fingers and Steven and the Stevens were good because they had conflict and tension and a threat. Later they do stuff like Future Boy Zoltron and Last One Out Of Beach City. There's definitely a difference.

She was hyped up by all the Homeworld Gems to be the toughest, strictest, tightest shit in the world. We see her and she completely lives up to that expectation of being ruthless, tough, strict...

Up until Peridot hangs up on her. Then the very last image we see of her making a goofy face and that's how we leave. It's the equivalent of having a fantastic meeting with a potential boss and then they cut a huge fart as you shake their hand goodbye. It doesn't completely ruin them, but would have been better to not leave on that note.

The show's decline in quality has been so fucking glaring when you compare it directly.
Season one was a light hearted show with poignant moments that hit hard, and a cool subtle world building going on in almost every episode that had a bigger picture looming in the background.
Now, the show is a very a "lol so quirky and cute" approach to characterization and dialogue straight out of tumblr.
The biggest disappointment is Steven, he went from a ramboxious little boy how loves to have fun with a lot to learn to a little flaming effeminate faggot.
It's painful hearing the gayest shit come out of his mouth in these latest episodes with a forced high pitch voice, it's obvious the writers are not even trying to write a boy anymore but a self insert that just does things they find cute all the time.

That's a nice speech and all but all they did was turning them into clowns, which in a pure comedy that wouldnt be that bad, but while they ask us to have a chuckle at the wacky caracters half the time they also ask us to take to take the caracters and situations 100% seriously in the other half, which makes the caracters look either retarded or like crazy people, for example, the hit the diamond episode, in which everyone went full retard.

The huge identity crisis is one of the main problems of the show, it tried to be an accion show/monster of the week/slice of live/comedy/caracter driven drama/space opera/musical but in doing so they made all the genres cancel eachother out, the SoL aspects drown the action and space opera and the comedy struggles with the drama and all aspects comes off weaker because of it. It doesnt help that the show doesnt exell at any of those, exept maybe at drama.

Its like they dont know what they want the show to be and the caracters and story ends up sufering for it.

Think of stargate: atlantis, the wraith are a race of evil vampires that suck the life out of humans to fed themselves, what they do is sleep for thousands of years, wait for human civilizations to rise and flourish, the kill almost all of them as food and destroying their civ so they never get very far and never be a chalange to them, then get back to sleep and start again. The specifics arent clear but the metod is logical, homeworld's is not.

The way she's revealed in the trailer and more importantly, how she talks when we first meet her, DOES make her come off as 'cool and collected' or at least mostly so. She treats Peridot like a grain of sand that isn't even worth looking at, admittedly she grows angrier when Peridot starts talking about saving the earth, but again, that really doesn't justify that hugely cartoony reaction to some lowly dissenting Peridot calling her a clod, like I said, this is the first time we actually get an introduction on her, making her a joke by the end of the conversation ((when they KNOW it's going to be a long while before we ever see her again)) makes me, at least, not view her as the threat she appeared to be when she first showed up.

I wouldn't have had a problem if they'd done the comedic shtick after she had actually arrived or become a main part of the plot, but for the first time we see her, it just ruined any kind of dramatic tension toward her next appearance.

I guess this is how I feel. I don't think I watched the premiere of the show as it actually aire the first time, but I started watching shortly afterwards. I remember watching early episodes like Together Breakfast and Cheeseburger Backpack, and thinking that the show definitely had potential, even if Steven himself was kind of annoying.

I saw the show get progressively better through the first season, even if some episodes were kind of weak. The Lapis two parter was really good and seemed to be setting things up. Then they introduced peridot and kept building up that the home world gems were coming to earth. Then of course there was the end of season 1. I didn't love it as much as some, but it was kind of cool.

Everything seemed to be in place for a cool story now. But the second season already started drifitng away from what made the first season good. More focus on emotions and crying and side characters. The thirs season was worse, focusing progressily more on cute stuff and singing. If it weren't for the fact that they aired that season in such a short time I probably would have given up midway through.

I did watch the first several episodes of season 4, but then finally quit. I just don't like the show anymore.

tl;dr First season was best, it gradually became shit after that.

That doesn't make any sense. Half of these aren't real development at all: Garnet was always two Gems, and 90% of the time she's fused so it makes no difference.

YD has had two minutes of screen time, there is no development to speak of yet.

As for Lapis and Peri not being dark enough anymore: Peri was goofy from her earliest appearances (her very first conversation with Steven has her thinking "Stevens" are a species) and the first thing Lapis ever did on the show was make a fart joke.

SU is a comedic show, the characters don't exist to be fodder for your grimdark headcanons.

I was referring specifically to Lapis and Peridot. Early on they were silly but also still had an aura of menace about them. That's completely gone now though.

As for being a comedic show: I'm aware, but it also seemed to have a fair amount o action early on, and seemed to be building towards some heavy stuff. Not that I was expecting the show to go grimdark but... It just seemed like it was heading in a different direction for a while.

I'm not a big anime fan, but I've watched some of the dubbed stuff on cable tv. If there's one anime that I thought SU might end up emulating its Gurren Lagaan. Only sans the fanservice and with less wacky anime shit. Obviously not though.

TL; DR, she reacted like the head of the inquisition facing someone committing HERESY right in his face.

The second season was more or less good, Peridot's arc was good because of the character itself and the plot progress too but we got some episodes were focused on lesbian shit. Ridiculous lesbian shit. I prefer the show canceled than this mimic of the characters they have done in order to make them LGBT

I felt like immaturity isn't what we were supposed to take away from that, more that Yellow Diamond's dedication to the destruction of earth has reasons that are not simply vulcan-logical; she is emotionally invested in DESTROYING the planet, not conquering or harvesting from it.

Then a season later we get the twist that her little sister was betrayed and murdered on that planet by the heroes, and her emotional investment in its destruction makes more sense.

You didn't really need the goofy face for that.

I can't speak for the rest of the characters, but Yellow Diamond's problem isn't that wacky face in the OP, in fact some could argue it's actually impactful

Her problem is that so far there have been no real consequences to pissing her off. We're talking a head figure of a super power here we STILL don't quite understand, that rules entire planets in between doing the crossword, and so far the only response we've seen is "Yo, where's Japer". In fact, for all we know, she might not have even sent the Rubies, maybe they're just so autistic that they went to go find her on their own

The point is, every aspect of this show emphasizes that the diamonds are big fucking deals. The extended intro, the fucking murals on the goddamned moon, the way the characters refer to them. Months later after practically telling a super power to fuck off, and the characters are off playing with pumpkin dogs

One can just tell this story is going to end in an awful note, handwaving all the problems and ending in a hamfisted peace with 0 consecuences.

My bet is that the CGs will get rid of the diamons and everyone in homeworld will become a saint in a split second, even though every indication given says the oposite (like peridot changing sidesOL ONLY after the threat of theath by cluster, and even then she betray them anyway near the end).

Or everyone sudenly grows a hearth hold hands and sing the theme song while while also getting scot free of all the shit they did.

Also nobody in the fandom will care.

Steven Universe has possibly for the worst and inconsistent plot development in the show. I feel as if this show is like the lesbian characters it portrays, rushed, changes drastically and quickly, capable of potential, pandering to emotional episodes that grow tiring quickly, yet somehow the ''fans'' on /sug/ still hope for more.
