Maui abandoning Moana then coming back at the end didn't have as much explanation/focus as it probably should have.

The coconut pirates and Tamatoa just showed up and were forgotten by the characters immediately after they left.

Other than that, it was a fantastic Disney film. Despite some of the stupid lyrics, the songs themselves were all fucking great. Moana actually took responsibility for her royal duties and weighed the negative consequences of her actions before making a decision unlike certain other Disney princesses (Ariel). Moana and Maui had great chemistry and, like Zootopia, we got to see a male and female character be friends instead of lovers. Moana actually had two living parents that weren't complete retards. The animation is beautiful, and Clements/Musker actually incorporated some 2D with the tattoos and also the paper cutouts in You're Welcome.

It was good. It was beautiful to look at, the songs were good, none of the characters were annoying, and the story wasn't boring.
But aside fro the setting it gave us absolutely nothing we hadn't seen before with other Disney princess movies.
