I mean, they already made the X-Men bad guys for AvX, and that was after the X-Men suffered through decimation, school bus explosions and kids getting sniped on their lawn. The Avengers? Oh yeah, the mutants are absolutely in the right in both circumstances, it's just that the broad strokes are extremely similar. Most mutants don't know about they're cosmic importance and Celestial origins, so from, say, Old Man Logan's perspective, his comment about "what happens if there's no cloud? Some people get to stay regular people and don't get superpowers?" is really no different from the mentallity that drove the Avengers to attack the X-men in the first place.
