Though I like Marvel Zombies too, and their basic setup of "it's zombies" made it easier to make more stories for them.

There's two problems.
First is representation in media, or pandering to diversity, whichever side of that issue you're on. I don't give a shit, personally.
Second is that nobody gives a shit about new characters.
It's easier to take someone, and especially from a larger cast and make them what you need them to be than it is to write a new character. Even when they write new characters they use the existing as a jumping off point, and that still comes off as pandering to many.

So I think while the Emotion of your choice is the trigger to get the energy out, after that it is a mix of the Emotion and Willpower.
Like how Hal had to trigger the BL ring to get it started but once he did had no trouble using it till it was drained.
Also why Red Lanterns mostly can't make constructs, cause they're only using rage not a mix of rage and will.

The main purpose of the blue rings is an eternal support role. They get to show beings their greatest hope and heal others by themselves even without a green lantern, right?
So in theory they do their job fairly well without a GL nearby, it's just that in comicbook land everybody's job is to punch shit and to do THAT they need green.
I hope they get a sort of rebalance in rebirth.

Venditti killed them all in his first arc on the book, Walker was the only survivor but he lost hope so his ring stopped working
He eventually got his ring back but couldn't really use it, then he got kinda brainwashed by the Yellows so he could work for them
Soon in Rebirth the Blue Lantern Corps will be reformed, hopefully, there's mentions in the solicits for HJGLC
