Well even in the movie itself it's supposed to come off as that. The Tantive returns fire and the troops a board are ready to fight off stormtroopers. She's just setting up her defense with the knowledge that she has political power. Also remember Bail is still alive at this point, who would argue her defense and cause a big stink the Empire doesn't want for propaganda reasons.

Remember what the Moff said to Vader at the start of ANH? Something along the lines of-You can't capture her, if word of this gets out, it can make Leia/Bail feel sympathetic to the Senate.

Rogue One was a lot like the prequels in many respects.
Gareth isn't the best actor director either, but his visuals look great.

Just like how Battlefront feels like Battlefield with a Star Wars skin, Rogue One feels like an action movie with a Star Wars skin.

I'm a weird guy, downer endings can kind of ruin things for me even if they make sense.

Like Sweeney Todd for example. I was enjoying the film but the end was so unpleasant it kind of ruined the rest.

The other bummer is that when characters die their adventures are over. That's fine for someone like Vader, we get over 20 years of blank space to fill in. But younger characters it seems liek a waste.

Like if Poe had stayed dead in TFA as originally planned.

I know it's realistic for there to be lots of death and the mission in Rogue One sure does sound suicidal. But I don't really look to Star Wars for depictions of reality. Gritty and Dark to a point a guess. Even in Clone Wars some of the various Trooper deaths felt pretty needless and a waste of a good character.

(I'm not really spoiled about Rogue One I think. I kinda heavily predicted this type of ending long ago)

Part of what Vader scary was how slow he moved but with power and purpose. When he started moving faster than a power walk you knew shit was going down.

It's definitely more kid-friendly than TCW, but it's still good. It also doesn't pander to any specific fanbase (well, arguably TCW, it has a lot of nods and references and character/story links) and does a pretty good job of balancing OT and PT references. Obviously since it's set closer to the OT there's going to be more OT stuff, but it doesn't shy away from the prequels.

I think Rogue One is the first time we've really seen the LSG in action. Sure, we've got the Rebels references, but I'm talking more about how well this movie lined up with the other RO media, like Catalyst. For example, just like in Catalyst, everyone walks over Krennic. I REALLY liked his main theme, it had the perfect mix of Williams-esque pomp with a subtle added layer of melancholy. The rest was decent enough.

Desplat may have been a little...big? for what the story ended up being. But I don't know, I can't judge without hearing his original score first.
