Frozen is a movie that tries so hard to break its tropes to be surprising that not only is it not surprising at all, but half the shit everyone does doesn't make sense outside of the context of 'trying to be surprising'. Boring, watered down story, songs that range from okay to painful, and admittedly pretty great visuals.

Come on, seeing the villain losing the last bit of his goodness he has and actually struggling with the power he's trying obtain is cool. Kylo Ren doesn't intimidate me, but I do sense some confliction. He's an okay character.
It doesn't make sense according to half the shit he does before then in the film, and even in context of his then-situation. Why would he even need to go all Machiavelli on Ana? The writers went out of their way to make as big a twist as they could, but twists have no impact if there's no subtle foreshadowing to reflect on and say, "Oh shit, I didn't see that coming".

My problem is that Hans does things that are directly contrary to what his character is supposed to be.

Why does he smile lovingly at Anna after the boat scene? No one is watching him (unless you count the horse) so there's no reason for him to put on a performance.

Why does he prevent Elsa from being killed? The idea that he wanted to try to fuck her doesn't make sense. This is a guy who wouldn't even approach her because he thought he wouldn't have a chance. The "he wanted to look like a hero while secretly trying to murder Elsa" doesn't work either, as being accidentally responsible for her death is far worse than just being a bystander.

This is out-of-character behavior shoved into the movie just to make the audience unsuspecting of Hans. It irritates me that the writers were more in love with their evil prince idea than making a consistent story. It's not even that good; "my fiance is evil so my infidelity is okay" is the most common romance plot of all time.
