>Have you ever wanted to see Green Lantern meet Space Ghost? Or have Booster Gold land in Bedrock? You’re in luck, as DC Comics has announced a batch of annuals, releasing March 29, 2017, that crossover its greatest heroes with several of its Hanna-Barbera properties.

>DC’s official announcement also touts the backup features in each annual, which offer “a sneak peek at what’s upcoming from DC’s new takes on classic Hanna-Barbera animated characters.” Based on the info below, does that mean we have a “Snagglepuss” ongoing on the way…?

>Take a look at the solicitation information and covers for each crossover annual below:

ADAM STRANGE/FUTURE QUEST ANNUAL #1

Written by Marc Andreyko and Jeff Parker

Art by Steve Lieber

Backup Feature: TOP CAT

Written by Dan DiDio

Art by Phil Winslade

Following the events of the DEATH OF HAWKMAN miniseries, Adam Strange is blasted through multiple dimensions only to land on Earth! But instead of super powered beings and legendary crime fighters, he encounters a boy adventurer and his scientist father – and they’re the only ones who can help him return home. Jonny Quest, Hadji, Dr. Benton Quest and Race Bannon have a plan, but it’s going to involve a dangerous trek through Dino Boy’s Lost Valley of prehistoric threats!

And in the backup feature starring Top Cat, breaking out of prison is challenging enough for an anthropomorphic cat, but what happens when it means stumbling through a cosmic portal to planet Earth, right into the hands of Batman?

BOOSTER GOLD/THE FLINTSTONES ANNUAL #1

Written by Mark Russell

Art by Rick Leonardi and Scott Hanna

Backup Feature: THE JETSONS

Written by Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti

Art by Pier Brito

Welcome to the 25th Century, where the Earth is a polluted, post-industrial nightmare, most animals are extinct and reptilian aliens are invading cities across the planet! In their time of need, the world’s citizens turn to the time-traveling Booster Gold to save the day. To learn why these aliens are attacking Earth, Booster dives deep into the prehistoric past to see what happened when they first came to the planet. In this bygone era, Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble must help Booster learn the truth and return to his own time armed with the information that will bring down the invaders – if Booster can convince them to help him out.

Harley Quinn’s Amanda Conner and Jimmy Palmiotti put a new twist on an old twist about our future in THE JETSONS! The Jetsons live in a world of robotics and gadgetry. But how does dying change when grandma’s brain can be digitally imprinted onto a housecleaning robot?

GREEN LANTERN/SPACE GHOST ANNUAL #1

Written by James Tynion IV and Chris Sebela

Art by Ariel Olivetti

Backup Feature: RUFF AND REDDY

Story and art by Howard Chaykin

Trapped in a strange rift in time, Green Lantern and Space Ghost are forced to battle a variety of foes – and each other! And even if they manage to survive, they will be thrown into a world with no concept of interstellar travel – or even what an alien is! Stripped of their weapons by a xenophobic culture, the duo will have to battle to regain them – but what happens when Space Ghost dons the Lantern Ring and Hal Jordan puts on the Power Bands?

Iconic writer Howard Chaykin puts a modern spin on one of Hanna-Barbera’s earliest animated animal teams! Ruff and Reddy were once the toast of nightclubs, variety shows late night chat fests and Broadway. Learn how they became the comedic duo of yesterday… Before they hit rock bottom today!

SUICIDE SQUAD/BANANA SPLITS ANNUAL #1

Written by Tony Bedard

Art by Ben Caldwell

Backup Feature: SNAGGLEPUSS

Written by Mark Russell

Art by Dale Eaglesham

“Suicide Splits” pairs up Saturday morning’s animal rock band with Amanda Waller’s Task Force X, the dirtiest players in the game! Mistaken for metahumans and thrown into the bowels of Belle Reve Penitentiary, the Banana Splits are recruited by Amanda Waller for a secret mission: Save the Suicide Squad! What follows is quite possibly the weirdest team up ever; how will Fleegle, Bingo, Drooper and Snorky stand up to Harley, Deadshot, Katana and Killer Croc?

Mark Russell brings his hilariously satirical style to this backup feature, where Snagglepuss is a Southern gothic playwright working with an ensemble cast of cultural figures, exploring an intensely creative time in the New York City theater scene of the 1950’s.

What's even the point of reading capeshit if you are a characterfag? There are no consistent personalities or backstories, everything that should endear a character to a reader is changed in a whim by the next writer. What, do you go by powers and costumes then? Because if so that's pretty goddamn childish.

It doesn't matter how many times you throw that buzzword around, it won't change the fact this is a really stupid idea. There's no story to be told here, as there's no way to make the contrast between the DC and HB characters interesting. Anything that can be done with this is incredibly obvious and predictable. Nigga, it's comic books, there's plenty of times where some new character or team becomes the big hit, you have to give a chance to everything, either DC, Marvel, Image or whatever company it might be.

And this coming from someone who enjoyed Marvel before Bendis, Breevort, Ike the Kike and Quesadilla fucking the main comics up to critical shittyness levels.

And yes, there's still some nice comics from Marvel too, but you can't deny that DC is actually doing well in quality now.

Nigga, they don't get taken seriously because of the stigma of being for kids and shu-ins, ironically the same with cartoons, anime and vidya.

And guess who are is the people who think that? That's right! Old people.
Ironicaly, if you want to actually make both comics and cartoons taken more seriously, you gotta actually try with new, crazier and less common ideas, but since executives try to do the same shit always, we still get rehashes of plenty of stories, the same "wacky, hip and trendy" cartoons and moeblob.

And yes, I know I screwed up with my sentence, but my point still stands, comics and cartoon will always be considered childish as long as people don't actually try to make something new, and thanks to people like you, because comics also have to deal with the "graphic novel" shtick that quickly fades out due to plenty of people eventually not giving a fuck about those "2deep4you" stories that quickly get dry.

It doesn't matter if a work is mature, or serious, or what have you. What's important is a good story, and you can't have a good story if you start with a bad idea.

Tell me, what possibly good could come out of this crossover. We'll assume these are comedies. Any jokes that can be made are fairly obvious and predictable. Both sides are going to have to deal with the others tropes and that will lead to hijinks. They'll team up to fight a villain or whatever, the superheroes will learn to lighten up, the toons will learn to take shit more seriously, yada yada yada.

If this tired, predictable tripe is "fun" for you, you need to read better books.

Why would you even assume they'll all be comedies? Future Quest/Adam Strange is literally following up "Death of Hawkman" and both are pretty non-comedic titles, same with Phantom Ghost/Green Lantern. The only comedy based ones here are obviously the Flintstones and Suicide Squad ones and Mark Russell already managed to show that even stupid ideas can mine out gold.

>>88370040
Ironically, you can't have a good story if that good idea is then forced down your throat and the writer doesn't execute the idea correctly.

For example, the Vision comic had a weird and, at that moment, bad idea, Vision making a family and trying to be "normal", but King actually managed to make the story get darker and darker with each issue.

And, for example, the idea of Kick-Ass, by Millar, is good, but eventually the writer went completely stupid with it, and ended up getting an edgy and senseless comic.

>>88370189

>>88370188
There are no such things as bad ideas, just bad executions.
>>
>>88370432
Immediately assuming an idea is bad before you see it makes you close minded
>>
>>88370335
>implying a weird idea and a bad one are the same thing
Vision making himself a family is in no way a bad idea, as the storytelling potential is immediately obvious.

A DC/Hanna Barara crossover is a bad idea because there's just nothing interesting to be done with it. There's nothing to gain here, so why bother? It's a cheap marketing ploy to wring out a quick buck and nothing more.

>Okay, smartass. Make a lighthearted feel good comedy about Charles Manson raping a small child. No such thing as bad ideas, right?

Sure, just give me funding for this and I'm set. That's not the most offensive idea I've seen. I mean more or less what you suggested is just an episode for South Park (I mean they literally had a Christmas themed episode featuring Charles Manson), or a sketch in Robot Chicken, or a short in Adult Swim. Is that really your worst idea? Given the proper people behind it they can make it work.

define "bad idea"

most stories dont even start being conceived through those specific ideas you are mentioning, and when they are, its much more about how you work them, how you approach them

by the way, you can say that how you work and approach an idea are an idea too. this "essential idea" that says what a piece of art is is hindsight, you get to them once the work if finished and observable

Steve Lieber doing Adam Strange, and it follows up on Death of Hawkman which is pretty good.

Mark Russell already showed he can do, I mean everyone was expecting Prez was a fluke and the Flintstones was gonna be shit but it's easily one of the best ongoings out right now.

Howard Chaykin doing Ruff and Reddy.

The creative team behind Snagglepuss.

It's a fun way to get attention to these books.

I blame BatB for the misconceived attitude towards my man Booster. Not that BatB's version is bad, but they definitely dumbed him down to help broaden his more defining characteristics.

Booster has always been a more comedic character, granted, but where Deadpool is mostly a parody of the very character he is in the very world he is in, Booster's own realization and acknowledgement of how much of a screw-up he is undercuts most of the lighthearted theme. Booster was the one who screwed up his life, nobody will ever know or care when he saves the world, and he will always be the laughingstock of the superhero community no matter what he does. But Booster, unlike every other meme character out there, grows as a human being beyond his initial selfish motives. He learns what it is to be a true hero and grows to the point where he doesn't need the satisfaction of others to know when he's done a good deed

I have no idea what Ruff and Reddy is, but I'm pretty hyped about this.

>>88369272
And if this is tied into Future Quest and not just a one-off it's gonna be cool as shit.

Sorry not everything is SUPER SERIOUS all the time.

It is a pretty edgy take on the Flintstones. The occasional gore and war panels are especially jarring when in the next panel there's a talking animal spewing puns. That doesn't really make it bad though.

Marvel/Star Wars crossovers when?
>>
>>88379181
To keep in tone of this thread I'll answer like this.
Ugh that would be so stupid and wouldn't make since and you're stupid for thinking about it. Gosh what kind of stupid head would ever want Star Wars and Marvel together? Idiot.

I actually think it would be really cool if done well.

Late 2017 remains my guess

Legion/Duck Dodgers when?

I like Future Quest but does it seem that they are taking forever on the first story??? seems like they have been in the jungle running away from FEAR forever

Any particular reason why?

That happened already. Wednesday Comics.

>Capt.Atom meets Capt.Caveman

when will DC make my dreams come true?
>>
>>88380646
it was a pitch for his "Manga" type of series. I liked the Wednesday comic (though the art was a bit too small)
DC didn't like his pitch I guess

Why the fuck is Space Ghost and some other HB Superheroes, but mainly Space Ghost as he works the best, not in the normal continuity?
