The main reason I think Ren won't die for at least a while is the fact that Neath is voicing him. Killing off Monty's "legacy"/"blood" would sit pretty terribly with the fanbase I think. Nora, yeah she's definitely at risk since her VA is not intrisnically related to the show, but somehow I don't see Ren kicking the bucket until much later if at all.

I think all the mockery of this guy made his creator actually start growing the fuck up and trying to make him less self-inserty as fuck. Last I checked he actually gave the guy a bunch of weaknesses and started pushing him towards his own story away from the cast of RWBY. He also started portraying him as much less a badass and able to actually lose fights.

Not completely redeemable yet, but definitely steps forward from where he used to be from the picture there.

Tyrian's moves were pretty great, if sometimes a little slow, but it seemed to be at the expense of RNJR, who all became retards. By far the best aspect of the fight was that it's the first one from V4 to actually have weight to its impacts

I knew RNJR were going to lose, but I did not expect them to get stomped like that. They acted like amateurs. There was no team coordination. Everyone attacked as one at a time.

The moves were a bit slow and add at times. Sometimes they were hard to follow because of the camera work.

If you use a littler inference from Monty's early design logic as told by Kerry and Miles before on streams and shit, such as Michael getting picked for Sun or Barb for Yang, you can see who Merc was going to be in the "Close friends" circle that is RT.

There was never any 100% in writing proof but we do know that Bernie convinced Monty to do auditions for voices after he saw the list of picks Monty had made off the top of his head; most of which stayed the same except a few specific nonames. Monty was playing pretty close to home for some of the character's interactions via their VAs. Sun being in a team with Gavin, and Emerald being Shanes wife as well as Mercs partner is a clear step in our logical inference of how the Oum mind used to work.

Joke voice or not, find an interview with Shane or a video of him talking. He just doesn't have the tone to fit Mercury. Even with proper training, he isn't going to be Mel Blanc who took an entire career to have his voice be the way it was. This is literally type-casting 101 and Shane got shoved into the type his voice fit best naturally. Sucks for him, but his resolve just wasn't great enough to show his coworkers he could do better roles. Such is the life of actors.

Killing someone only for the sake of sadness and shock is bad writing. Killing characters is meant to progress the plot, induce character growth, or act as exposition.
