Just make a Romeo & Juliet scenario where Batman is against the romance because of the danger it poses and Joker wants to kill both because of the affront to his legacy. So Damian and the girl goes against their parents wishes and destinies to stick together.

So you'll have a scene where Damian throws the cowl in the floor and say to Bruce that he never wanted to be Batman, that he was never cut out to be a hero. That this was always something he did to make Batman happy, but that it's over because he finally found something that makes HIM happy.

Then at some point the Joker poison both and have another confrontation with Bruce for the kid's well-being, but they all end up alive anyway and kids run away.

Original Recipe Deula had this tragic future story where she loses her mind to her Joker personality and kills Alfred, and she and Tim have a final battle.
