I do, she's the best Summers kid

Gold Team is basically my platonic X-line up and I'm furious that it's gonna be shit. I have to hope Bunn is gonna write a good book now. (Headmaster Magneto is the best)

My hopes for Uncanny starring the New Mutants keep rising..
>>
>>88296689
Fair enough. I really can't recommend the Magneto solo enough though.
>>
The huge focus from Marvel on X-Men recently feels like part of a deal with Fox to allow them to use the x-men in the MCU

It just seems weird
>>
>>88296389

Is this like a mash of the Gold and Blue teams? Why not make a new team, since we're going to get a new Gen X we could get a team of other adult X-men who have been in limbo.

That said. With current Marvel editorial being lazy fucks that approve anything and don't check shit, the writers would have to work together on their own to make it work. Otherwise we will get another 'Cyclops is literally Hitler, but not really'.

Yeah and each time he stabs them in the back.
If you were alive when the books came out, you'd know that his forced lobotomy via wolverine claw was the only time creed ever became a real good guy, even that was only temporary.
The fact is, it makes no sense that anyone in the x-men would ever logically trust him, and every time the writers try to shoehorn him into a team it's always stupid and ends the same fucking way.

Been reading comics since before you were born, son, time to go to bed

i was gonna defend it cause it just looks like a new mutant uniform which is like the best default for the x-men but then i got mad at the 05 for getting individual costumes. but i do love those jackets
>>
Does Marvel know what to do with Havok?
If Sabretooth is still a hero after being inverted, then Havok must still be evil.
>>

Its so default it takes away her individuality and even takes away her personality. That thing might be fine for new students but not for the fucking leader.

Remember that time Havok used his cosmic rays to let Cyclops absorb a fuckton of energy to power his punch dimension portals?

That was cool.

More proof in my mind that their immunity to each others' powers is because they cause a feedback loop.
>>
>>88300228
But Prestige is stupid unless you are a magic-themed character.
>>
>>88296929
"Marvel" used to have both the comics and movies divisions together. Ike Perlmutter had a lot of say in the movies. Kevin Feige got sick of it and got help from dudes with bigger dicks.

They separated the two areas so Marvel Entertainment (comics) and Marvel Studios (films) are two totally unrelated divisions.

Perlmutter has no presence at all in Marvel Studios, so he no longer has any reason or incentive to keep X-Men and FF down in the comics.

This is most likely why all the earlier comics had people treating Cyclops like he'd done something utterly horrible and irredeemable, but Death of X was pretty reasonable. X-Men are no longer lepers. This is also why we're getting a Fantastic Four return sometime later.
>>
>>88300228
>would be looking at the past which is what Guggenheim said they won't do
Yeah well they already failed considering other than """""""""Prestige""""""""", everyone just went back to their classic costumes. I mean shit, Nightcrawlers isn't even slightly changed, it's exactly his classic costume. Kitty, Storm, and Colossus are almost exactly the same minus a couple small tweaks. Hell, even OML is just wearing that nasty ass trench coat he originally wore.

I don't mind going back to the basics, but you don't really get to claim that you're being new and fresh when you're going for the nostalgia pandering route.
>>
>>88300301

>>88300290
>This is also why we're getting a Fantastic Four return sometime later.
Please don't say things like this until we get hard confirmations. After seeing pic related, I genuinely don't know if my heart can handle the F4 getting fucked over any more and getting my hopes up just for them to be dashed would be too much.

I always took them for granted and losing them made me realise how important they were to me. Marvel just isn't the same without them. The whole universe just feels hollow.

>>
>>88300425

>>
>>88300425

want that thor sales bumps jms produced.
>>
>>88300467
That's a great page, Bendis or no. Schiti knocked it out of the park with the art. You can feel Ben's pain in his eyes in that last panel. GotG is a shit comic, but that doesn't mean an occasional good thing can't come from it.

Infamous Iron Man on the other hand was rampant character assassination on Ben along with Doom going around and killing classic F4 villains, all of whom were also written out of character. So nah, that's the opposite of what I want.
>>
>>88300515
>axed due to low sales
Don't believe Brevoort's lies. They were selling at a comfortable ~35k under Robinson when it was cancelled, and prior to that had the sales necessary to hold up two seperate ongoings until Fraction fucked the whole thing up. Under Hickman, they were consistently top sellers for Marvel and even beat out Batman in at least 2 different months.
>>
>>88296389

Well, she's not 100% confirmed, but the author wants to use her (gold taste for teachers, shit taste for students)
http://www.cbr.com/exclusive-generation-x-creative-team-roster-revealed/

>Are there any other ex-students that might pop by in a mentor role, like any of the original Generation X crew? Any specific characters you’re dying to write?

>Chamber. Chamber, Chamber, Chamber, Chamber. Did I mention Chamber? After all, Jubilee’s gotta have someone to confide in, and who doesn’t love a sad boy? And there are a few other members of the original Gen X crew that I’m definitely interested in checking in on, including Husk — but don’t expect a Chamber/Husk romantic reunion. As for other ex-students, I do have an affinity for Dani Moonstar and Magik, so I imagine you’ll see them popping up at some point. And I don’t know that Andre Mexer counts as an ex-student, but hear me now: he’ll be around.

Every generation thinks Marvel is ruining the X-Men.
Every generation but two:
Those who came off of the near-cancelation of the original five and got the Claremont era,
And the overhyped Lee era of the early '90s, coming off of a time of directionless stories with the X-Men cast split up all over the place.

There IS NO greatest X-Men generation, even Claremont was just them getting started and making things up as they go along, does anyone ever talk about the time Nightcrawler was abducted by Leprechauns? That was on Claremont.
For goodness sake, just read the story before you start whining.

Early X-Men had WAAAAAAAY too much magic crap going on.
There were times when it was more likely they'd go up against some magic whatever (or an alien) than encounter anything mutant.
It makes sense these days with characters like Pixie and Magik, but what are the chances that a group created to intercede with mutant problems would have more supernatural enemies showing up on their doorstep then mutant enemies?
That doesn't make a lick of sense.

Her Mohawk never struck me as a feminism thing, to me it was just a mutant weirdness thing.
It was a while before I even realized that it was an obvious punk lesbian look.
But recently, with the whole storm-goddess drapery combined with the high Mohawk look, I thought she was finally embracing the mutant counterculture wholeheartedly.
I loved Storm for that ... despite how non-stop wrong she was being all the time.
Seeing her go back to this Soccer-mom Jazzercise costume with her "big beautiful hair is a woman's pride" style, I feel disgusted.
And I doubt her condition of wrongness will improve any because of it.

That's what I don't understand
Storm radicalized way before Cyclops did, she was the first leader to openly authorize Wolverine to kill, the first one that adopted the mutant survival at all costs mentality and all that shit during the late claremont era and now she is just a less butthurt beast
Modern X-Men seems like just a waste

But she didn't radicalize on the kill issue because of desperation like Scott did, she just has a vengeful goddess streak in her. Storm was never faced with a prolonged whole-species-on-the-line situation like Decimation. And she was calling for killing for vengeance on more than one occasion, like during the Morlock Massacre. She was just more ruthless, like Logan, it was a hidden character trait, not a moral sacrifice of leadership.

(Goddess, how I LOL when I read the part where it's Maddie that freaks out Storm after Scott's just all polite casual calm about her showing up to a wedding dressed for gay clubbing.)

>>88309052
I've answered this before, it's a common thing people just don't get:
Ororo, Hank, Kurt, and Logan all saw Scott as the innocent incorruptible one. Not necessarily better than them, Storm always disagreed with his leadership decisions, Beast always acted without consulting him, Nightcrawler was always offering him moral council, and Wolverine was always undermining him.
They all saw Scott as a classic good guy, just a little too nice, a square, as Emma put it: Scott Summers likes homework and eating his vegetables.
Weak because of this good nature.
But you don't value something like that until you see it destroyed.
That's what bothers them: Scott Summers turning into the mutant Frank Castle, and doing so willingly and without regret.
That's not supposed to happen when you're surrounded by superheroes.
>>
>>88309250
>Scott Summers turning into the mutant Frank Castle

Storm, Hank, Logan were all hypocrites, we all know this, but does that make them more relatable realistic characters, or less?
I don't think it's a bad thing that they aren't perfect.
>>
>>88309822
>more relatable realistic characters, or less
They can certainly be flawed, but I genuinely believe most of their reactions to Scott were bad writing that really didn't take into account the character's history, with the exception of Kurt and Hank to an extent
Or maybe I'm just Stormfagging and you are Cyclopsfagin, which is ok

And OMG, Storm NEVER got along with Scott, especially when it came to leadership, they had squabbles about - - - They had an actual physical fight about it back in the day.
It makes sense that she would be holding all of these resentments about his bad, unethical, amoral decisions of late, that were beyond what she would have done, especially with a sociopathically clear conscience like he had.
But if they had had enough time there would have eventually been one of those clearing the air conversation scenes and Storm would have forgiven him, I have no doubt of that, but they just didn't have the time.
>>
>>88309874
So Peter would be sent to Limbo twice?
>>
>>88309250
I don't think it is just that. The biggest thing was that Scott was always up until the Messiah Complex, a decent and moral human being. However, the potential for him to be Rightclops was always there.

See, what none of them really got about Cyke is that the dude is repressed. Emotionally and physically.

Wolverine worries about going into a berserk rage and killing everyone? If by some mistake Scott's sunglasses fell off while he slept, then he could kill everyone in the surrounding area when he woke up.

Those optic blasts of his are what made his life what it is now. Because of that, Scott has to remain in control all the time. I mean we all know he would like nothing more to blast Logan through a window when the guy is being his usual arrogant self. But, he has to restrain himself. Constantly.

It may have made him seem weak to others, but it was actually his source of strength.

This control which made him a good leader. He could always see the big picture and he rarely let emotions guide his actions. It was because of that vision though he could see what the others could not. That was why he was the one that the X-Men trusted to lead them at the end of the day.

After M-Day, Scott factored in everything and realized that this whole 'React' policy that the X-Men had would not work in a post-decimation world. Add that in with the fact that Cyclops had to ensure a species survived, then you got the creation of 'Rightclops'.

Imagine being in Scott's shoes for a moment. A man who has to be total control of himself every single second of every single day. Balance that with having to ensure that a species survived and running the X-Men... See why he developed like he did?

I like to think that it is the reason that the X-Men are so critical of him now. They don't want to admit that they had a part in his fall. They pretend like they didn't force him into this role and pretend that it was all his fault even though the blame should be shared.
>>
>>88296389
Why are the O5 still here? I mean for god's sake they have no goddamn appeal. Bring back the New Mutants or the New X-Men or hell, nearly any generation (Apart from WATXM). Or just make them into villains. Anything to stop them polluting the current X-Men stuff.

>>
>>88310122
WOW. That. Is. A. Post.

So, First thing: The repression thing sure seems to be the secret of his success, the guy has a tolerance level for taking shit like nobody else.
But Storm's the same way. She gets too emotional and a monsoon with blizzard lightning destroys New York. The state.
She might not have had the childhood of pure hell that Scott did but she knows how to control her every waking emotion. It's a learned skill best never needed in the first place.
Maybe she sees herself going down that same path to damnation if it had been her in charge?

(Part 2)
As for the guilty part, I damned well hope they feel guilty.
Not just for allowing his corruption with indifference, but also for enabling it. Wolverine was the worst of them, by far, but Hank and Storm did their parts to step back and passively let these decisions fall on Scott's shoulders.
Hank knew iffy stuff was going on for a long while before he took his big moral stance and quit, some of it was already out in the open, other things his scientific expertise was actively facilitating, if that was a wrong he couldn't tolerate the time to take a stand was right away, not after the fact.
And Storm, she stuck with him all the way, right up until the Phoenix Five went wrong, you can give her credit for that ... or you can condemn her for not stepping in before it went too far, either way she's guilty of blaming him for doing all these things she supposedly disagrees with, and yet she never stopped it.
That's one reason to think she would have ended up the X-Men's murderous disappointment if it had been her playing Phoenix.

And I like to think there's a part of her that knows this.
>>
>>88310239
Storm seems to a lot more control over powers naturally than Scott does. Yes they require a great deal of control, but unlike Scott, she has a easier time controlling her abilities than he does.

Onto your second point. I don't think it's just that. I think more on the lines, she saw Scott, this moral, kind and sincere human, someone who she admired in a way. In fact, I think most of the senior X-Men did, even and especially guys like Logan.

I think that Storm currently is desperately trying to hold herself together because she realized some of strain that Scott has constantly been under. And I think that terrifies and saddens her. Because now she realizes that Scott wasn't being amoral just for the sake of it. He wasn't being like an edgy kid trying to fight imaginary threats with X-Force. He was trying to make sure that even if everyone hated him, they would all come home. Though it's not a criticism, I don't think Storm could handle the people she loved hating her. In fact, in general I like to think that's what the X-Men were doing.

From what I can gather from the ending of Death of X, the Inhumans probably pushed a story of Scott being deliberately aggressive rather than doing what he actually did. They all know what needed to be done, but they don't want to do it.

Why is Rachel still here?
Why is OldManLogan still here?

They no longer come from a different historical part of the 616 parallel universe timeline, the timeline has shifted with their presence and 616 is no longer the reality that they came from, because it's split off into different separate and distinct realities that are no longer linking 616 to their points of origin.
>>
>>88310418
>Storm currently is desperately trying to hold herself together because she realized some of strain that Scott has constantly been under
The thing is she knew it way before Cyclops ever did
Remember that during Mutant Massacre, she lost most of the people she was supposed to lead, and still she lead the team into defeating a chaos god and going underground and becoming proactive instead of reactive while being as crippled by self doubt as Cyclops is, just to return and have Cable and the New Mutants constantly second guessing her every choice .
Funnily enough Wolverine was fine under her lead and only until Scott began doing the same did he decided to chimp out, so probably he, deep inside him, just hates his guts
>>
>>88310418
You think a RightStorm is maybe going to become the next villainous X-Man in IvX?
>>
>>88310471
So what if they're timelines have split from 616? The X-Men don't care what country or alternate timeline you're from they will accept you.
>>
>>88310471
The difference is that Rachel actually is an interesting character on her own. She is not a nostalgic wank by a hack.

As for OldManLogan... well, I really don't like him in the first place so I am not going to bother defending him.
>>
>>88310525
They're still all, even Rachel, even the O5, all just What-if rejects walking around in the wrong universe.
They should form a support group.
>>
>>88310496
I don't think the main difference is that at the end of the day, was that Storm kept second guessing herself as much as the New Mutants did that and the fact she was acting on emotions instead of rationality because she could afford to. Scott couldn't.

As for Logan... I think the biggest problem that he had with Scott is that he hates the fact that Scott is a better man. Logan undermines him in a vain attempt to make Scott down to his level, but Scott doesn't.

I think that ultimately Wolverine is jealous of Scott and that was what lead to the Schism, ultimately. Wolverine believed that he knew what it meant to be a leader and what it blew up in his face, he blamed Scott and his influence.

Jeanie was clearly only talking about Trannyclops in that scene.
He was the only one who didn't keep some kind of physical change,
Warren had the wings of flame,
Groot had a new bark look,
BOBBY was no longer a snowman but now had a solid ice body (there's a gay pun somewhere in that)
but Scott looked the same, so he asked why he had no physical changes, and that prompted that answer that led Jean to telepathically snoop.

If you want bonus points you might notice that in the Cyclops miniseries Tykeclops has an up-beat and positive outlook all throughout, and becomes more negative and uncertain in the comics after the mirror.

You are way off on Logan.
He hates Scott because he can't get a good read on him, there are no other people like Scott Summers, so Logan can't predict his behavior from past experiences and that makes his animal instincts agitated, and that agitation causes aggression, and things spiral from there.
Summers is all about repressing impulses and Logan is all about following instinct.
But Schism was about the kids, Logan is damned for all the crap he's done, and he's prepared to damn himself a hundred times over, but allowing anyone else to slip into that same hell is intolerable to him.
Scott is about all or nothing. The whole community fights or it all dies.
It always came down to if you sacrifice the soul to save the life, or sacrifice the life to save the soul.
Logan was willing to risk everyone's death to allow children to keep their childhoods.
Scott never had a childhood, he doesn't get it.

I always thought it was bullshit how Logan (why don't we call him James?) just took all the kids and a bunch of X-men and left after Schism. No vote, no discussion about what they thought Scott was doing wrong, just take the most vulnerable people in their community back to the school that became a kill box.

A mutant-made island is just as easy to nuke as a school.

Not when you've got some of the biggest badasses in the world on the island.

Is Rachel a good character? I've read about 2/3 of X-men comics since 2006 but I haven't gone back much.

In fact I probably wouldn't even consider myself an X-fan, just a shitty marvel zombie.

If possible, post a run involving her that I can just jump in on.

See, her bestest stuff is from back then. Excalibur and shit.

She's cool, but underutilized because she's usually pushed down the telepath priority list by characters like Emma, Jean, Psylocke, Cuckoos, etc. Her back story is more complicated than any of them and her character isn't as easily defined.

Hell, that's probably the whole reason for her new image thing

During Secret Wars 2 (Uncanny X-Men 203) she absorbs all the x-mens powers and lifeforce against their will to because powerful enough to fight the beyonder.

And Uncanny X-Men 207, Wolverine kills her (she survives though)

Probably her two best issues before joining Excalibur.
