he does it on purpose

I would too, sounds fun

Daily reminder that he got started on Mister Rogers.

I still can't believe Birdman has become so meta that's it's turned into reality
>>

I almost feel like he did it to fuck with Cuaron.

But Vulture-Man isn't a real name

I would watch it.

Pretty sure this is the biggest villain he ever played.

I find funny the fact that he made a super hero movie, then he did a movie that make fun of the super hero movies, just to do a super hero movie again.

I'm pretty sure he doesn't have problems with the money, so probably it's just his sense of humor

They want Mr. Mom to play Batman? I want the head of Warner Brothers fired! There's no way a comedic actor should ever play Batman! Fucking Hollywood!

You mean poetically just, not ironic

I was about to say. If his career were ironic, he would have been cast in BvS.

Keaton's career has been more meta than ironic or poetic.

Even better. There was almost a Spider-Man movie where he was a giant mutant spider monster because the producers though he was like to wolfman. Also it would have been directed by the guy that did Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Birdman was shit, and so was The Revenant

Meta movies are often so cynical and bitter that it gets uncomfortable, almost unbearable to watch. Those are not exception, you can feel Iñárritu bitterness at every single scene. There's no joy in watching movies that makes fun about you watching the said movies.

Anyway. Keaton is a pretty cool guy.

I'm not even into "capeshit" that much

But the man go even further. In Birdman he complains about trendy actors, token hot actress, movies being more popular than theaters, mainstream media, superhero tropes, and the list goes on...

The boring part is how he uses every single one of those elements just to say how bad they are. It's beyond cynical and hypocritical.
>>
>>88298934
>The boring part is how he uses every single one of those elements just to say how bad they are
That's because without those, no one would watch Birdman

It's a small price to pay given the success of that movie. But, hey, if you want to pretend like you got one over on the director, go right ahead. Just know that you look pathetic.
>>
>>88298876
He used DiCaprio and the "revenge story" trope to complain about the glorification that Hollywood gave to those type of stories in last years, putting into "real" terms. He said it straight forward in some interviews.

So he did a revenge story to explain how revenge stories are bad.

But yeah, I hope so. Alejandro is a great director but he's insufferable with that MUH CULTURAL GENOCIDE whining bullshit.

>Birdman was shit, and so was The Revenant
I'll one up you, Biutiful was shit too. But at least Bardem was great in it. Birdman and Ravenent just sucked and Keaton wasn't anything special and Dicaprio is not a good actor.
Also, capeshit is still shitting all over the movie industry so I guess Birdman wasn't much of a statement. Especially considering Keaton's new role.

>Birman was just "fuck capeshit"

This was not the point, is about how people glorifies art. The conlfict is that Keaton decided to put all his work and money on risky because he wanted to prove to be a "real artist" instead of making easy money on a capeshit sequel. The conflict is if this is really worthy it.

Keaton liked to be Birdman, he couls just make more dumb movies, get rich and make people happy. As his daughter said, art is not important, theater is not important. Art don't really feed or make anything of real substance for people, Keaton just wanted to make it to feed his own ego. Critics as much as Actors are just overpayed
pretentious hacks (like the main theater critic lady and the annoyng fuck who Keaton had to work with) that like to talk about themselves rather than having a real job.

Kearon proved his "passion" for acting by shotting in his own nose, putting the critics into a corner. It was a stupid desicion and a desperate trick, but no one could say against it because he did for "passion for the art"
>>
>>88298505

Wait, I've seen this a million times, but I'm just now noticing that while most of the costume is rubber/plastic, the part directly over his genitals is cloth.
>>
>>88295780
He's come full circle. He's played a super hero, he's played an actor who played a super hero, and now he's playing a super villain.

He can be a good actor but he wasted himself of buying beyond his means and made himself so broke he constantly took the worse gigs just to deal with debt. This has broken him to where he wastes his talent and just phones in for a check.
Also read up where Keanu Reeves basically paid off a debt that was going to make Cage homeless.

Better

>"Former washed up hero retires but his PTSD manifests itself and returns to his life of 'crime fighting', but his moral compass is broke and he ends up causing so much mayham that the super heroes of the modern age show up to fight HIM
> "You mean... I'm the bad guy?"
>>
>>88301535

Why is Keanu so based? Everything I have ever heard about him makes him seem like a cool guy with a history of gut-wrenching real life tragedies juxtaposed with incredibly hollywood success.
>>
>>88300696
That's a corruption of Birdman, his imagination going haywire on himself
>>
>>88298576

I remember reading that story. I think there was even a part where the script was mostly based in that premise because the producers wanted to follow the success of Cronenberg's The Fly.
>>
>>88298397
Honestly that was pretty close to the sentiment toward the casting before the first trailer for the film was released.
>>
>>88297377
he seems to have liked that kind of "evil CEO" role. its what he played in Rebootcop. And IMO, he was pretty good there
>>
>>88301069
>when you want a wacky and goofy B-level action flick
in the 90's and early 00's, having camp and cheese was perfectly ok for movies. So he fit right in. he's also a genuinely good actor. he's just the kind that doesnt care what his role is because he both desperately needs the paycheck, and genuinely enjoys the craft of acting

>As his daughter said, art is not important, theater is not important. Art don't really feed or make anything of real substance for people, Keaton just wanted to make it to feed his own ego.

I find really hard to believe this is the message of the movie, considering Iñarritu thinks superhero movies are dumb empty trash that doesn't say anything to the audience. He has the exact same opinion as Keaton's character.

> a genuinely good actor

He does a lot of method shit. It's not really acting, just fucking around to try and get people to react to you a certain way. It only gets publicized because "crazy star" inexplicably sells tickets.

He's in a few legit good movies from his early career, but he's easily the weakest point of any of them - he always did do that comedy-face thing, he just got away with it because he was young and hot. Like how Brad Pitt has no real range and only ever got hired to start out because he looked like a younger, hotter Redford. Literally cannot act any kind of emotion.
