>The creative team and plot for the 2017 Cable ongoing series has been announced by Marvel. One-time Cable writer James Robinson is returning to the title, with veteran illustrator Carlos Pacheco, in what is the sixth (and final, for now) X-Men book coming as part of the new "ResurrXion" joint line with the Inhumans.

>The big conceit of the new Cable book, according to Robinson, is Nathan Summers' expertise as a time traveler, with 'timesliding' as 1990s readers will recall.
>>
>"One of the things about Cable is he’s a 'time warrior.' Time travel is part of his make-up in almost every aspect of his history - no pun intended," said Robinson. "This series will be Cable on a race against time to fix time. The reason Cable must take on this quest will reveal itself as the story and mystery unfolds, but he’s doing it for the sake of the Marvel Universe, which will fall apart if he doesn’t take action. And in the course of Cable’s mission, we’ll see him in a lot of great time periods like 15th century Japan, WWI, the Stone Age, Victorian England, and on and on, all with those time periods made more crazy and sci-fi by time being fractured by the villain of our series."

>While the X-Force founder has had numerous enemies over the years, Cable's first big bad is someone new.

>"This series, while not throwing out any of Cable’s past, will focus on him as a character for new readers as well as old ones. The villain is a new character simply named Conquest. He’s a technocrat from a future where he’s worked out how to manipulate the butterfly effect of times past to make his reality perfect for his wants," Robinson said. "That ripple effect has changed the present. Cable has to stop Conquest. Conquest has no intention of being stopped and intends to use all that history has to offer in terms of warriors and villains to stop Cable at each stop our hero makes in time."
>>
>This new Conquest has no connection to the previous Marvel villain of the same, who appeared Avengers/JLA and Thor. One piece of history that Robinson is keeping in mind for Cable, however, is his short run on the character in 1997's Cable #44 - #50. Although its nigh on twenty years since it occurred, Robinson remembers it vividly.

>"I remember a great deal actually. I had been invited to a summit by the Marvel powers-that-be at that time. I didn’t have a Marvel book then and was invited just to contribute ideas. It was a lot of fun, sitting down with Chris Claremont, Kurt Busiek and others, planning the new storylines, and it definitely made me want to get on a book and stay a part of Marvel at that time," the writer said. "To an outsider, at that time Marvel seemed to be a place with two fiefdoms. One was the main Marvel characters and the other was the world of X-Men. The two worlds were really apart with many fans only collecting X-books and the continuity being quite separate from the main Marvel U. to accommodate them. I saw Cable as a character that was lost in his own ever-more convoluted back story, and thought it would be great to have him (very much a lone wolf like Logan) as a crossover character that could operate in both the X-world and the main Marvel world–a tired old warrior who’s trying to keep the present day in line and make sense of it for both mutants and humanity."
>>
Oh thank god.

Not gonna be Cablekino, but still, least it isn't Duggan.
>>
>Robinson said he's returning in part to make up for his abbreviated first run with the character.

>"Honestly, leaving Cable when I did was one of the regrets I’ve had with my career. I was overwhelmed with life outside of comics at that time and so I just felt it was one book too many to write," said Robinson. "My leaving helped Joe Casey get a good footing in the industry, which is a great thing, but part of me has always regretted not muscling through and staying on the book for longer. So, when my friend Mark Paniccia recently got the X-books to oversee, we began talking about something for me to do there. Cable’s name came up and an idea began to form almost immediately. And so here I am."

>Cable is expected to debut in spring 2017.

I don't get it, does Marvel go after ALL DC sloppy leftovers? They got the best out of Waid and kicked him to the curb. Same with Soule and now Robinson. His work on SW, SS et al is garbage tier. And now this?
>>
>>88245552
Low...Fucking...Bar
>>
>>88245429
Mixed feelings, Pacheco is good but damnit...another Robinson book.
>>
>>88245429
I'm not surprised. I figured they were going to get an old Cable writer for this book since I couldn't think of anyone else that'd be a fit for him. I figured they'd have went with Loeb but I'm fine with Robinson. Pacheco is pretty synonymous with the mid/late '90s X-Men too so he's fine as an artist.

So I guess I have one X-Men book I'll give a chance to.
>>
Robinson? Isnt that the only conservative guy and he also wrote red wolf ?
>>
>time travel book by James Robinson
Continuity porn time
>>
>>88245429
>Parker Industries
Of all mutie shit, we get Spider-building.
>>
>>88245621

Didn't Marvel seriously downsize their editorial teams and fire a lot of editors in 2014?

Because I think that would honestly explain a lot about the decline in quality and sloppy editing on a lot of books. As well as why writers who were good/great at DC start to suck at Marvel and likewise why writers who were bad at Marvel suddenly become decent at DC.
>>
>>88245721
No that's Edmonson
>>
>>88245761
you're thinking of the wrong writer
>>
>>88245721

That's Nathanson, not Robinson.

that's pretty hype, I like when Robinson does time period stuff

Ok, so he is the guy who is writing the squadron supreme, right?

What does /co/ think about it ?
I liked, i even liked their weirdwold arc with Dr Druid
>>
>>88245824

His Squadron Supreme book is alright. It's not setting my world on fire but it's a solid book.
>>
>>88245645
Look, I know, but Robinson has been great. A book like this would let him do some cool things and it's not got literal whos? like SS.
>>
>>88245429

I'm just hoping this somehow convinces Marvel to reprint Robinson's previous Cable run, because it had art by motherfucking LADRONN
>>
>>88245429

pacheco is criminally underrated. just seeing his name attached to something makes me want to take a look
>>
How long with Robinson stay before he throws a fit and quits?

I'll read this
I really want spurrier back on something X-Club

Robinson playing with X-continuity with Cable could be fun.

implying it's not Kang

Oh I know, but at least it will be better than Duggan. Possibly the worst Cable I've read after his inexplicable appearance in Civil War, and I've read just about everything with Cable.

Robinson has been working for Marvel for years now.

Cable
Blue
Royals
New Warriors (I like Rosenberg but we'll see, somethinga bout Ms Marvel on the team bugs me. pretty sure shes just there for sales though)
Blackbolt

On the fence regarding Gen X (not a fan of the artist), and Weapon X (again, why Land?)
>>
>>88245808
So how many arcs until the obligatory Golden Age arc with Cable teaming up with Human Torch and Namor?
>>
>>88246827

considering it's shocking whenever a Marvel book gets more than 20 issues now, I doubt it will take long.
>>
>>88246825
>again, why Land?
Apparently, Land has his own fanbase and for better or worse, most of the people in that fanbase are x-fans so Land gets put on X-books pretty often.

The "he's so realistic" crowd does exist and it's sickening.
>>
>>88246385
Honest question, will an artist's political view and/ or personality affects a reader's acceptance of his work?
>>
>>88246862
No one likes propaganda, anon.
>>
>>88246728
From X-Men:
>X-Men Blue
>Weapon X
>Cable
>tentatively Generation X, but only if they grab me in the first issue or two

From Inhumans, all three.
>I like Rosenberg but we'll see, somethinga bout Ms Marvel on the team bugs me. pretty sure shes just there for sales though
Yeah, I really don't know about Moon Girl and Ms Marvel. Having a teenager and a child on the clandestine spy team seems like the weirdest choice. Still, Rosenberg.
>>
>>88246852

>The "he's so realistic" crowd does exist and it's sickening.

Yeah, same with Deodato.
>>

>Weapon X
Pak has done some really good X-books; Land is sort of a feature at this point haha ;_;

Robinson hasn't done anything /bad/ really, and Pacheco is great (with a good colorist).

Fuck You.
Deodato use to be genuinely good around when he did Thunderbolts.
Land has never been good.
>>
>>88246896

sorry not NEW Warriors
SECRET Warriors.

Reusing the Hickman title, written by Matthew Rosenberg (We Can Never Go Home, 4 Kids Walk Into a Bank) and art by Javier Garron (Cyclops, Star-Lord).

Team is: Quake, Karnak, Inferno, Ms Marvel, Moon Girl & Devil Dinosaur)
>>
>>88246728

> Weapon X
> Cable
> Generation X
> Black Bolt
> Royals
> Secret Warriors

Gen X is a bit of a 'maybe'. Giving it a chance but keeping my expectations low.

The Inhumans aren't characters I care about all that much but they have much more promising premises and creative teams in my opinion.
>>
>>88246963

Deodato was going down the dark path when he was doing Thunderbolts

I blame working with Bendis for his total waste as an artist.
>>
>>88246728
>>88246992

A Marvel editor kinda teased that there were more books to be announced as part of Ressurxion, so I'm hoping we get like a NEW Inhumans book.

Really tired of all Inhumans stuff being focused around the royal family. Surely there must be some culture building you can do with non-Royals. Like what is their society actually liek.

>>
>>88248619
Duggan's fine, but his Cable is just completely plucked out of his ass. The characterization had been off for a long time. The only time I felt like I was reading Cable were when he went AWOL.

He wasn't very competent and generally came off as a geriatric loon.

If this was actually Cable he'd have pushed Black Bolt, Medusa and the rest of the complicit Inhumans' collective shit in in no time, but instead he's just like well I'll be an Avenger because it's a good look right now.

Basically, Cable came off as a quisling and that's never good considering Cable is usually one of those characters that always has a plan. Well, except for when he fights Stryfe.

It seems like the Inhumans books look a hell of a lot more interesting then the X-books at the moments. I dunno if its just my own personal taste but it seems like Marvel is deliberately trying to kill the X-men with sub-par talent as the writers
>>
>>88247954

all the new mutants except wolfsbane (I dont remember if Cypher too) appeared in the last issue of New Avengers, the one with Sunspot.

Wolfsbane should remain unchecked, because she only appeared in Death of X, which is something that cronologically happened before all the post secret wars books. the same goes for havok, should not be checked, we only saw him in death of x.

karma should be checked, she even got a line. the same goes for amara-magma and dani moonstar

Maddrox is dead, he should be checked

frenzy is with the inhumans, she appeared in the cancelled new inhumans, should be checked

the cuckoos already appeared in inhumans vs x men 0 should be checked

quentin quire will be in the new generation x with jubilee as leader, ridiculous, but should be checked, I think the same goes for chamber

hopeless has said boom boom will be in his new book

The one Hickman is writing. Might check out the rest of the Inhumans too. None of the X-men. Their creative teams are mediocre to downright bad. A has been Robinson, Hopeless, Greg Land, guggenheim, Bunn, a colorist as a writer.
>>
>>88261506
*Ewing, not Hickman.
>>
>>88245552
Because Duggan sucks. He can't write DP, and as sure as hell, can't write Cable
>>
If it's like his Scarlet Witch nook, it will ignore the stuff that makes the character compelling and instead focus on dreary small-minded plots.

And he pretty much implied M Day happened because Wanda is a woman, because he pandered without thinking about what it actually meant.

Robinson has made an SW book that ignores the Elder Gods, even though they are a huge part of her history and the thing her fans fucking want to see.

Could have done a whole story about Chthon and Set's history with witch's throughout history...instead we got retcons no.1389.
>>
>>88263523
What is Scarlet Witch?
Everything about her is in flux.
>>
>>88264001
Well, what many hoped is that we were going to get an exploration if witchcraft and that Chthon or Set would be the big bad. Instead we get the Emerald Warlock, a generic, by the numbers baddie.

Robinson has reconned yet again and blatantly (as ordered by editorial, most likely) set up Wiccan taking over from Wanda (a la Thor, Wolverine, Iron Man, Cap).

And in Squadron Supreme he killed off Namor only to bring him back.
>>
>>88245538
Claremont was around in 97?
>>
>>88263150
Hmm, I enjoyed his DP. His Cable is fuggin shit though.
>>
>>88264203
Claremont came back to Marvel in a vaguely defined editorial position. He didn't take over writing X-Men again though until 2000 and then he promptly got fired. But he wrote some other stuff like Fantastic Four and gave story notes and things.
>>
>>88264529
>promptly
Considering he was writing x-men until like 2005 or early 2006, what is your definition of prompt?
>>
>>88264571
He got fired from the editorial position, I mean. And then moved off the main X-Men books to X-Treme X-Men, but I don't know if that counts as getting fired.
>>
>>88264149
I do like that the Emerald Warlock is the evil equivalent of Wanda, someone who betrayed a superteam and killed people consciously and with malice.

Robinson can't write dialogue very well and the book was greenlit at the last minute which may be why it's not connected to anything.
>>
>>88264665
He was given a choice between Uncanny or a new series. He picked X-Treme
