Honestly, it's my favourite Marvel film thus far. The plot isn't anything special but the atmosphere and visuals more than make up for it.

I'm guessing it has to do with the fact that people analyze prose fiction in school, and either don't exactly know how to analyze visuals, or think that it's more "academic" or "intellectual" to ignore other significant parts of a visual medium.

Also, some people are just more interested in the story a piece of narrative fiction has to tell, or feel that all of the other aspects of a narrative film should tie back into the story, and how well the film conveys it. Nothing wrong with that.

I feel like this is it, people can generally spot when something is good or bad about the writing because we've been learning about stories in some form or another most of our lives. Fewer people have the same level of knowledge about special effects and cinematography and when asked to comment on movies they stick to what they know about.
