The new girl for sam is a good touch and her scenes were cute, but Sam had a girlfiend before and I want her to come back. A flashback at least.
The mexican references were also good, but they contradict previous characterization... not sure how i feel.

This has for absolutely fucking once completely vindicated my hopes I had for this title after the great interview on this.
Now if this book could please fucking sell and also please not die because of Marvel's whims or the creators running away and then very much please not get completely derailed 5 issues in, that would be fucking grand.
As it stands, I'm kind of terrified of liking this, because it feels like the disappointment will come soon enough, despite the seemingly great creative work on display here.

My guess is, they're rushing a bit through the characterization and delivering a lot of high school hijinks early, in order to have more room for other stuff a few issues down the line.
Showing the character in humerous situations like this makes him quickly relatable.
Interview sounded like they wanted a little bit of everything, so this is probably the way to go with everything delivered in small, but strong doses.

It's so weird that this is seemingly the only book that Marvel did a U-turn on recently.

So what's the verdict?

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Would've preferred to see more Rich, but at the same time, I feel like it's the most likable Sam's ever been written, so that was nice.

One of the better comics Marvel's put out in awhile, and I'm hopeful for its future.
