Adams is godlike and draws the literally perfect Batman.
Rebirth I'm surprised how much I love, I'm so glad they brought both purple and yellow back into the mix.
Golden Age is one of the my personal favorites.
I don't care much for the Jim Lee/mid-2000's design, it's OK I guess but so visually boring. Kubert and Tony Daniel's blue costume is a much better version.

New 52 costume is complete garbage, and like everyone else's New 52 costumes only looks good when a good artist (Capullo, Manapul, etc) draws it and downplays all the retarded aspects.

The "New Look" Silver Age costume I've just never liked, even as someone who has a boner for classic shit. It's ugly and makes Batman look like a fat old man.

Another personal favorite of mine is the Howard Porter costume in Morrison's JLA, mostly for the spiked shoulders, though. The rest of it is pretty bog standard Tim Burton synergy shit, but I loved the way Porter would often have the suit totally literally black with only the symbol and belt visible in neon yellow.

I've personally never liked the gold field behind the symbol. I don't mind the gold trim that much, but I still prefer it if it's just the utility belt which is gold.

Rounded eyes from the pre O'Neil/Adams Batman stuff is terrible. Purple gloves are kind of weird and the gauntlets are a definitely upgrade. I don't really give a shit about the trunks because Batman's often drawn in a way where it isn't too relevant because one can just black out that area with shadow anyway.

However, something I really do like with the Rebirth costume is the dull-purple lining to the cloak. It adds an air of royalty to Batman which is feel is kind of appropriate.

And before anyone gets bitchy Adams' pencils on Batman in the 70s were obviously some of the best. I'm talking purely design of the suit, not who's drawing it. So for me it's probably:

Feudalism echoes through the Batman character: the title "Dark Knight" is quite suitable for Batman as he rides out of his Castle (Wayne Manor) to fight on behalf of those in his fief (the people of Gotham).

Also, for Bruce himself he's basically the Prince of Gotham: he's Gotham's wealthiest and most well known citizen by far, and his wealth is inherited which adds a further feudal element to Batman as opposed to him being a more "modern" capitalist type hero who made his money himself.

Purple symbolises royalty, but making it a dull purple doesn't overdo it and make it in your face; just a subtle reminder of Batman as a neo-aristocratic ubermensch which he should be.
