I never asked for a 1:1 adaptation to anything, that's impossible and I don't think any adaptation has ever done that. What I do want is some sort of resemblance of the source material. Based off this trailer, Baby Groot is going to be insufferable. So far he seems less endearing than normal Groot and he almost reminds me of a minion or some other annoying little cute thing like that.

Gunn does read comics, his first comic was an issue of Korvac Saga and he has mentioned several times that he read the DnA GotG comics.

And yes he told Pratt not to read anything because they were doing their own version of GotG but that if Chris felt like he had to read something that he should read DnA GotG because they were closer to that version of the characters but that still he wasn't required to read anything.

Also Gunn got DnA look at their GotG script before it came out and asked for their opinion, he has mentioned before that he liked their comic, he also has easter eggs of their names (along with Starlin and Kirby) for GotG vol 2 going by some set pics that some guy took when they were filming.

Fuck he even talked about Humphries' shitty comic (only because he had his version of Yondu) which is worst than Bendis' GotG yet he won't willingly talk about or acknowledge Bendis' crap run.

And it's a case of DC characters being more set in stone in the average person's mind. People have a strong and mostly shared idea of what Superman and Batman are supposed to be like, whereas nobody really cared about Iron Man or Zemo aside from fans.

Meanwhile the biggest casual imaginable I've spoken to were confused that Batman was murdering people left and right. If "he doesn't kill" has been one of the key components of his character for decades and you have him murder like everyone he fights it's fucking jarring, and much worse than anything Marvel did with their heroes (but not villains, they do dumb reimaginings there for sure).

They answered that. The baby Groot is only a remnant of the old adult Groot. It's still Groot, but a large part of the old tree did actually die. This is a good decision as it gives his sacrifice meaning, and also stops any member of the crew from wanting the new Groot to go and kill itself again. The idea being Groot isn't immortal and shouldn't be treated like someone who can be killed with no consequences.

I found this a bit underwhelming, it felt like it's the straight to video sequel. Everyone looks cheaper and feels like they act differently in a way. I don't mean the CGI I mean the part with Mantis at the end felt like some bts of passenger when I saw a clip of it earlier before seeing the teaser trailer.

Maybe watching the movie it won't look or feel as bad.

Mantis feels off because in the GotG comics she is very well guarded and discreet with the emotions she with other people's emotions that she senses, she understands social cues and interactions better than anyone and is good at reading people.

MCU Mantis as described by Gunn and Pom is a shut in individual who had little to no social interaction while growing up so she doesn't know how to deal with all of these feelings that she is sensing from people and that she learns all of her social interaction from the Guardians.

What worries me is all the idiot Marvel Comic writers who will turn Comic Mantis into MCU Mantis and if she does turn out to be Peter's sister it will kill Peter/Mantis but seeing how we are stuck with Douche Lord in the comics it won't matter in the long run.

I get why they made him immature at first and I'm a fan of seeing characters develop in time, my only fear is that he'll remain static and never develop beyond being Han Solo lite. You know how in the classic stuff Quill's mom was killed by aliens and he became an astronaut? Well Starhawk's backstory is that he was orphaned as a child and picked up by a band of red jumpsuit-wearin space pirates called the Reavers of Arcturus.

I imagine Gunn found the "killed by aliens" thing to be too hokey and the NASA thing too similar to Farscape. So he decided to inject some Starhawk to fix the problem and homage his personal favorite Guardian in the process.

I've never read anything with him in it, only old 616 Mar-Vell. I just like the design. I could use the design for Genis instead if that makes you more comfortable. I also don't think there's much of a point in introducing pink kree in the MCU, since they'll only ever be supporting characters in Guardians, Cap Marvel and Inhumans probably.
