>>
>>88114955
What I don't get is how are there six unrelated bears, none of whom ever talk about their family members. It's not as if this refugee thing happened recently, it was generations ago. Yet somehow they're still living in their ancestral home, having dwindled to six bears in three generations, and they are only just rediscovering how all their technology and magic fucking works.
>>
>>88125335
it's the first animated TV series that ever put any real work in. The visuals alone are worth it
>>
>>88125335
Yes.

Although the last time I watched it was when I was a kid, so my mind and opinions may have been warped 180° by now.
>>
>>88125796
That's what I find interesting about it. They leave so much unexplained. It feels like it's something dark that they don't want to talk about, like a tragedy of some sort.
>>
>>88125938
i suppose
it's kinda like beast wars where i get why they cant spend time going over everyone's entire family history, they have to exist as isolated entities to service the plot and story.. but it's still weird since part of their shared backstory is belonging to a larger group

>>
>>88126427
well they mentioned their backstory and how the humans fought and drove them into hiding, so .. like, it's there.. it's just like, how'd you get from there.. to now?
to follow your example it's more like if garogyles showed the vikings killing most of them, then skipped the whole 'cursed for 1000 years then the castle was moved, breaking it' part. so you'd tune in and be like 'why are there 6 gargoyles left, unrelated (except two of them it turns out), and they still talk like this all just happened
gargoyles WAS inspired by gummi bears so some comparison is sensible
>>
>>88126368
Well, I vaguely recall Grammi or Zummi at some point mentioning that the two of them used to be in an orphanage together (and that they were troublemakers), so I have to wonder if the job of guarding Gummi Glen was offered to some of the misfits and outcasts that had no other family connections. I'd imagine that the Glen Gummis were once a much larger group, probably whittled down to a small number due to any number of disasters, possibly including ogre attack.
>>
just a matter of time before someone post the pic of the thick gummie bear.
>>
>>88127021
>gargoyles WAS inspired by gummi bears
Sauce?
>>
>>88127460
google it. greg weisman said the initial concept of gargoyles was 'gummi bears meets hill street blues'
it also shows in their original concept, which was a lot cartoonier, and broadway was a funny fat lady character like grammi
but greg was pure PC even back then, and knew that would become unacceptable once the cartooniness was removed in favor of a more serious action show (a definite improvement, but a major straying from their sponsors' insistence on a show for (and only for) 4 year old boys)
>>
I always thought it would be cool to see a modern day series, where Gummi technology continues to outpace that of the humans, to the point where the Illuminati are actually an enclave of Gummi Bears that control Earth through a bureau of Men-In-Black-esque operatives that just happen to be cute, colorful bears (in ray ban sunglasses and suits).

Yeah, I have weird ideas.
>>
>>88127560
if they just werent such goofy-looking little fucks, this show would be so cool and integrate so nicely into other settings
I can JUST ABOUT accept them though if I think of them as gnomes. I already have mole-gnomes in my shit, I could have bear gnomes
>>
>>88127583
>goofy-looking little fucks
I dunno, I think that would be the major selling point.
>>
>>88127637
I dunno man. Maybe it's just me, but..
I can put up with grotesque cute little shits like Mogwai or the various other weird puppet shit from the 80s and/or Rankin-Bass animation, and I can enjoy legitimate kawaisa, but anything trying to emulate olde western toons is just infantile to me. I can laugh at it, I can even think it's clever, but I can't ever think of it as 'cool' or desire its inclusion in a fantasy action universe.
still better than shit like troll dolls
>>
>>88127760
Oh, well, it's not like they would be aiming it at your age group anyway. That would be the gimmick that brings in the audience (not necessarily you). The clash of 'cool, secret service, Illuminati, controlling the world from the shadows' vs. the whimsy of 3 foot tall colorful bears who are all taking this so very seriously. Obviously, it wouldn't be for everyone. But, the idea gives me a chuckle at least.
>>
>>88127884
yeah maybe. Maybe i could get used to it
it reminds me of this relatively serious fantasy book I read once about this family of man-sized living ragdolls... and a lot of words are spent describing how fucking weird, unexpected, and disturbing it is.. even if nothing else of any consequence happens beyond 'we have to keep them hidden!'
>>

They were only able to unlock the great book because Kevin found the Gummi medallion to unlock the book. Prior to that, they were just caretakers.

Regarding their families, it was directly stated by Grammi Gummi that Sunni and Cubbi were the last two kids, and everyone was worried about the future of their race (obviously the incest implications were glossed over by Disney) because their people had been winnowed down to just those six.

The deepest lore of the setting is pretty grim.
>>
>>88128488
I guess that means Sunni's gonna have to make a lot of babies.

No. She was a princess and he was a stable boy. In the Middle Ages, someone like Calla would most likely be married off to a prince or someone to form a political alliance. If she were older, Duke Igthorn probably would have come up with some scheme to marry her so that he could usurp the throne.
