How come Tom an Jerry hasn't had a live action movie recently? I mean, the Smurfs had two. Garfield had two. Marmaduke had one. Underdog had one. Scooby Doo had two (and two TV movies). Alvin and the Chipmunks had four.
So why no Tom & Jerry live action movie?

Pls no

Would they talk?
One is stuck in Development Hell.
Last I heard it's CG characters on live action sets.

Because Tom & Jerry isn't something that should be fucked with in a cheap cash-grab... Ok, that's never stopped Hollywood in the past, but I think the main problem is finding people to star in it. The very concept sounds fucking awful and most people will not want their names assosiated with it.

Please no.
I don't want the Tom and Jerry name to be ruined any further.

No.
Warner Bros had plans to make one a few years ago, but nothing else about it has been announced since.

Tom and Jerry isn't dialogue-based like those other cartoons you mentioned. Executives wouldn't dare make a live action family comedy without dialogue, it's too risque.

What if you give them someone to talk to?
What if you literally transport Tom and Jerry from their cartoon world into modern day New York.

As far as I know, that was the intent for the film Warner announced a few years ago. They even specified New York.
I don't want Sony's Smurfs movie with Tom and Jerry. I'm just fine with the animated D2V Tom and Jerrys Warner is doing now—Brandt and Cervone know their stuff, and mixing the Tex Avery and Rudy Ising MGM characters into the stories helps.
So which T&J was superior between Hanna/Barbera, Chuck Jones, and Fred Quimby?

I'm going mostly on rumor here, but I believe that's what caused the Fraggle Rock movie to be shelved. The plot was too similar to The Smurfs.
The annoying part is that traveling to the 'human' world has always been a theme in that show, whereas in The Smurfs, it came out of left field.

Fred Quimby had the best, but Chuck Jones had quite a few brilliant episodes. Chuck's style was just so unique.

Quimby's had the 'Aunt Jemima' character right? I always loved those.
