I sort of feel that around seasons 22-23ish it gets "better" in that it gets even worse, and also so becomes memorable/interesting through how bad it is. Like if you're watching to see just how bad things can get, That '90s Show nothing, those seasons are what you should really be focusing on.

I haven't seen all of them or even half, but the episodes in the 18-21 range definitely aren't good, but are just kind of safe-/boring-bad (with a few really bad exceptions). Like, you can watch them and think "yep, this sure is bad" but then forget them all the next day because there's nothing really unusually bad about them.

This isn't really a recommendation though. Maybe a trainwreck warning or something.
>>
This is the season before the Movie isn't it?

The movie was so much better than these late season Simpsons. It was almost as good as season 10.
>>
>>88110885
Yep.

They're not showing the movie, it looks like.
>>
>>88110885
>>88110920
Did they show the movie during the last marathon?
>>
>>88110867
Is season 22-23 where that awful more salt bit comes from.
>>
>>88110867
That seems accurate. Since the mid twenties seasons the writing has been so bad that everything is jarring and weird all the time. Jokes barely have any setup, the characters show up wherever they're needed for the plot with no explanation. I don't know how it can get worse but I know it will.
>>
That was the weirdest ending to an episode I've seen yet

they just cut away from the story to a Jonah Jameson expy so that he can shout "PHOTOS OF SPIDERMAN" etc and then it ended

what the fuck

I have a feeling they know what they're doing to us.

I mean, the promo stuff for the Every Simpsons Ever marathon was all the classic bits everyone remembers.

So, I feel like the unfunny salt promo is a deliberate choice.
>>
I liked that Nelson episode, hell of a lot better than Homer loses his job, gets a wacky job, pisses off Marge and makes up with her at the end.

The latest season or two relies more on freelanced writers than the actual Simpsons crew, so the quality of the episodes is all over the place

This is true. It's also why the premieres and finales are always the worst of the season now.

It's just what the show needed honestly, if we arent gonna get different perspectives from showrunners anymore, may as well get it from writers.

Also Matt Selman needs more episodes to showrun a season

You guys are acting like this isn't an intentional and well-established character flaw of Lisa's. She is addicted to praise and pathologically afraid of negative judgment. This often conflicts with her self-proclaimed status as the voice of morality, activism, and reason. It's basically the sole reason she isn't a Mary Sue (besides the occasional episode where the writers suddenly remember she's an 8 year old girl and have her act more similarly to Bart.)

In fact, I find most of the criticism here to be unfair. The show noticeably declines in quality around season 10, but is still enjoyable. The next noticeable decline in quality is basically whenever it goes HD. Then it becomes, with a few exceptions, unwatchable. In between the decay is gradual and not particularly severe.

Hi, /co/. I have a problem that's not directly related to The Simpsons episodes/games, but I don't think /r9k/ or /adv/ know enough about The Simpsons to help me out.

I know that this is going to sound incredibly autistic, but I cannot function in social settings unless I imagine myself as a Simpsons character. No, I don't go around saying "Doh!" or paint my skin yellow or anything. I just feel myself with the overall demeanor of The Simpsons. I can pass off as a normie well with this.

I choose Springfielders that already compliment my personality. My main 3 are The Sea Captain (When I'm feeling quiet but confident), Krusty (When I'm feeling a bit smug/cocky) and Snake (When I'm feeling a bit edgy). I also have a rotating list of characters that I can use. I've done Moe, Mrs. Krabappel, Lisa, 3D Homer, Dr. Nick, Moleman, etc...

But my problem is, I have a Christmas party with my co-workers tonight, and I'm not sure which Simpsons character I should be. I want to be a bit more outgoing and talkative than usual, but not TOO much. I had a bad experience with Disco Stu this spring, when I got a bit TOO confident, so I don't want to use him. I'd like to try a Season 9 Character, but I'm not sure which once. I like Ralph, but I feel like he would make me come across as an autist. I was actually thinking about Milhouse, but not being a meme hurts him a bit.

Do you guys have any ideas for a Simpsons character that would be sociable and confident, but not too much so?

Because at the start of every hour we should have an odd numbered episode because we started with the number 1 and at every half hour we should have an even numbered episode.

I don't know when it changed or why it changed but it's been like that for the past few hours.

But clicking the cart doesn't automatically buy whatever's in it
>>
>>88123097
it is, but the Simpsons has repeated plots since forever
the first 100 episodes has episodes about Homer almost dying twice (maybe 3 times)
making a MARRIAGE IS ON THE ROCKS plot entertaining is another story because most of them have lazy ideas and themes in them
i mean fucking manatees, fucking homer becoming a opera singer, Lena Dunham? it's so stupid and the ideas were probably made off what the writers last saw.
>>
>>88123303
The manatees was a projected plot for the simpsons movie repurposed into an episode. Lot of shit got cut from that film.
>>
>>88123338
man that's stupid
the movie also has some lazy ideas in it, like going to Alaska for some reason
i mean Alaska is nice and all, but why Alaska? the writers just liked it and choice is to be a major part of the movie instead of the movie completely taking place in Springfield or their other fictional neighboring cities

The final few episodes had them firmly together so I was happy. Even if it wasn't stuff like them making out it was mentions of dates or them just holding hands while others talked.
Fry and Leela felt real and like two people becoming friends, and over time, more. It was great and ended in a near perfect way with Meanwhile.
I hope when the Simpsons *finally* ends that things are similarly satisfying and conclusive.

>>
>>88110885
Anyone else find season 10 to be a bizarre halfway point between old Simpsons and neo Simpsons?

Like, there's the episode "Mayored to the Mob", which I consider to have a "classic Simpsons" style of humor and feel to it, not to mention the great guest performance by Mark Hamill. Yet the episode before it, "Homer Simpson in kidney trouble", feels more like a neo Simpsons episode (action setpieces, frat boy humor, Homer being jerkier than before, etc.). And it's OLDER than the Hamill episode, weirdly enough.
>>
>>88127608

>>
Heeeeey, some of those memories are from Halloween specials...
>>

Lisa never tried to murder someone multiple times, and is eager to share her interests with others(most of the time:she does have moments of smugness ).

I don't quite get the rage over That Fucking '90s Show. I mean I'm sure it's not a good episode, but that's because neither is anything this entire season.

Did people think until then that Bart and Lisa were in the 30s but still in elementary school, and Homer and Marge were in their 50s? Did it enrage you that the kids wouldn't even be able to remember the first episode by the mid-90s? The timeline changing every year is such a staple of the show that I don't really get why an episode doing the same thing the show has always done suddenly pisses everyone off.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but even this episode isn't going "homer and marge REALLY met in the '90s;" they're older than teenagers here. It's just making fun of the weirdness of how even though they'd originally met in the '70s, their kids would've had to have been born in the '90s even though the show they're in also existed in the '90s. There's really no clean way to do that shit, other than the show having everyone age from the beginning, keeping it stuck in 1989 permanently, or ending over a decade before, which should have been done but of course couldn't happen at that point.

Again, it's not a good episode, but the hate against it for the weird timeline shit that's been a feature of the show since its beginning is some major autism. And so is this post.
>>
This episode may suck but Marge is pretty hot with that hair style.
>>
>>88128698

Its equally hated because of the dull references to 90s culture.

And lets face it, pop culture-wise the 90s sucked.
>>
>>88128707

Its a Rachel cut, isn't it? She looks great with her hair down.
>>
>>88128727
I can definitely agree with that.

It's just weird to see this episode treated as a special case or whatever when it's the same type of retcon that's kept Maggie a baby for going on 30 years.
>>
>>88128698
The 90s setting just does not make any sense for The Simpsons. Not just because it's an affront to continuity and quite literally raping everything Sam Simon and James L. Brooks set out to accomplish, but also because they never give a specific year in the 90s for the episode to take place during. Homer referencing the Soup Nazi from Seinfeld would establish the episode taking place in at least 1995. But grunge music was around BEFORE. THEN. And it was around before Beanie Babies as well. AND they mentioned Clinton's impeachment trial.

Plus, with mentioning Clinton's trial, they made it to where Bart would have been born in 1999, but he's ten in 2008.

Ten in 2008. But he would've been born in 1999.

HE.
WOULD.
BE.
9.

>>88128777
Inconsistencies re: historical/pop culture events are a valid thing to get pissed about.

But
>continuity
>quite literally raping everything Sam Simon and James L. Brooks set out to accomplish

I don't think even they cared all that much about timeline bullshit, considering that they had an episode where Lisa was born in 1984, even though going by the first episode Maggie's birthday should be in 1988-- yet Maggie is clearly still 1 year old in 1992, and Lisa wasn't 5 in 1989 in the Christmas episode. It's the same type of shit, even though, again, Lisa's First Word is obviously a better episode than this.

By Season 3 or 4, if they'd actually made an effort to have characters age a bit, it'd be valid to say having them born in the '90s is raping canon or whatever. Yet Lisa is 8 in Season 2 and then turns 8 again when she has a birthday the next season. None of it makes sense.

SImpsons was great for a lot of reasons, but strictly adhering to a continuity was never one of them.

There were a couple good epsiodes in Season 19.
"Eternal Moonshine of the Simpson Mind" and "DeBarted" were pretty good.

Most seasons of Zombie Simpsons seem to be 1 or 2 good episodes, 15 medicore ones and 5 god awful ones.

I love the mocking of Apple fans

Since when was Lisa and the twins best friends
>>
I never knew there was an episode dealing with muslims.
>>
>>88133768
Their whole religion has been conspicuously absent from the show, even Hindus had more representation.

That's why you pirate music Lisa. You fucking dumbass.

"""BRAND SPANKIN NEW AND IMPROVED""" INTRO

GRADUAL LOSS OF TRANSITIONAL MUSIC CUES AND BEATS

COMPLETE STERILIZATION OF ANIMATION

TOTAL ZOMBIFICATION OF CHARACTERS

THIS IS TRULY THE PATH OF NO RETURN

I really don't like this intro.

>>88134653
This is the point where I wouldn't blame anyone from balling from the marathon. This is the absolute end point of Simpsons being funny.

How can they think for a single moment the bottom is an improvement?
>>
>>88134691
If you made it this far I don't see what can possibly drive you off by now.

We went through Pranksta Rap, we went through Boys of Bummer and we went through That 90's Show.
>>
>The HD intro

God, it's like why try and fix what wasn't broke? It's like they thought they needed to cram so much into each of the old scenes for.... whatever reason.
>>
>>88134740
They really wanted you to think it was BRAND. SPANKIN. NEEEEEEW.
>>
>>88134707
They don't. They just don't care anymore.
>>
>>88134719
Actually, through reasons I don't care to understand, I missed all of those.
