Imagine if basically the same character was a leading social media/online news phenom, rivaling the Daily Planet's old-school news format, stirring the post of social unrest and setting everyone completely against Superman at the same time, in order to remove his opposition to his Secret Master.

Now you've got a rationale for the anti-Superman campaign, a sensible tie in to Darkseid's larger plot, someone who could believably break into the system of the Kryptonian ship and create a monster out of Zod without some "abandoned Kryptonian project" bullshit.

Fuck, Eisenberg being Godfrey makes the plot 100% less retarded, and we could have saved Luthor for Man of Steel II of whatever they wanted to call it. Anyone got a time machine handy?

Or fuck, you could practically edit the existing movie and cut a couple of short scenes, and add sequences with Eisenberg trolling the interweb media and fix practically the whole movie.

The problem of good. His take on the theological debate the Problem of Evil. The Problem of Evil posits that God as he/it exists in the Bible, cannot exist because of evil, because:
A. God is all powerful, and all good, and would therefore stop all evil. But evil exists. So:
B. God is all good, but not all powerful, so the Bible is false.
C. God is all powerful, but not all good, therefore the Bible is false. Therefore:
D. God does not exist.
Lex had a similar outlook. Superman is deified by the people of Earth. But Lex knows better, there cannot be someone of absolute virtue, and absolute power. If there were, he'd have been spared his fathers abuse.
So...
He sets up the solution to the problem with Superman. He will either die to Batman (proving his vulnerability as a man), or kill Batman (proving that he is, at least a minuscule effect, evil). This means people will see Superman for the fraud he is, a demon from the sky. Batman was involved because he's the only person Lex believed could kill Superman.

Also, Lex feel powerlessness becuase of Superman:
