The protagonist of the Witcher series, starting from the end of the first book, bonded himself to the sorceress Yennefer with a wish (in the short story The Last Wish). Over a very long time they break up and fight but are always drawn back together to the point it becomes famous in song. By the third game they meet again. Yennefer gets Geralt to help her find another Dijinn to wish away the bond, as she's unsure her attraction is her own feelings or the wish.
Afterwards she still feels the same and is super confused about things. You can choose to either say "Me too" or reject her out of hand.
But basically, quest to the blood moon to undo the bond either ending in platonic friendship or realization of tru feelings.

Perhaps they sent him as a sort of cultural exchange? From the seemingly prominent barbarian family of the Johansens to the ruling court of the Mewnie kingdom. There's no real winning solution in those circumstances, by showing active support in getting the friend together with their interest you've clearly shown them you don't intend to take that spot. Therein lies the problem, your stance in their mind is clear and as a result they aren't going to consider you an option if things are going well with their actual focus.
If things aren't going so well there's an opportunity for the interested party to try and change their friend's stance on them by showing an interest in them, but they've got to commit at that point or it looks like they're just responding to the third-party's presence.
Star can only really hope that, by keeping close and showing some interest, Marco may reconsider his feelings with time. That obviously depends on how well things go with Jackie, if they go well then Star's kind of buggered, unless she can bring something more appealing to the table that will sway Marco's interest.
Outside of that, try to focus on valuing Marco as he is, a friend and actively trying to protect as much of the time and activities they do together as possible, whilst accepting that some sacrifices must be made.
Simply put, no one wins without some sacrifice being made.

It's possible the romantic feelings are just a reaction to that person "slipping away" - as long as they're there and available, you're not that interested, but the moment it seems they might pick someone else and no longer be "available" to you (hypothetically), there's a reaction to sort of want to keep them single and in your orbit so that should you want to pursue them, you could.
