I think the hate originally started with how much it borrowed from the movies. Then as people warm up to it the writing went a mess and basically sour a lot of people. Not a total train wreck like Korra or modern South Park but it had it's flaws.

Prime held on to potential until episode 36, which is when it fell off a cliff. I wouldn't say it was good.

I fell out of the Transformers fandom after the end of the Unicron trilogy. I've been interested in this for a while though and wanted to know if this was at least worth a shot.

Though as far as Transformers cartoons go, I've heard that aside from G1, Animated is the best on offer.

The best series of Transformers are Animated and Beast Wars.
