It's divisive.
The worldbuilding it has is amazing and the overall mechanics are rock-solid. Essentially it's a Gamer crossover which has very little to do with the source material. Jaune getting a blatantly overpowered Semblance out of nowhere is the starting point, and the rest of the book mostly covers what kind of an impact a practical living demigod has on the world around him.

You are very much underselling what Pyrrha meant to Jaune.

She was the first if not only person to believe in him. Even going out of her way to teach him. They were partners.

Then she just kicks him into a locker, completely ignoring him. You know what he gets from that?

He learns that, in the end, Pyrrha wouldn't listen to him. That trusted camaraderie wasn't worth shit when she wouldn't follow him.

Her learns that, in the end, he was just as weak and powerless as when he came in. All those nights of training might as well have been a joke considering she just threw him into a tower like a damn princess.

He learns that he's just as useless as he always was.

Also, you've already lost consideing you're pretty much arguing at this point.


And what happened in the end? None of that shit seemed to have affected Ruby. She just swept it under the rug and went jumped at her chance to have an adventure. Is she mourning? Did it affect her at all? Who knows. She's too "static".

Jaune? He upgraded his armor and weapon even though he was proud of them as family heirlooms, he still allowed them to be changed. He still continues his training at night. He is clealy affected by what happened which just emphasizes how much shit went down for him.


I already said, it's not worth shit. He did go through some crap. Ruby may have had a rough night but that doesn't mean Jaune didn't have one as well in comparison.

People undersell the shit Jaune went through when you think of it.
He always wanted to be the hero and save the day. Instead, not only was he powerless to do anything in the end, he was also entirely in the dark. Nothing that happened made any sense.
First your partner starts acting strange, and when you try to give general advice it backfires so spectacularly that Pyrrha "Nicest Girl on Campus" Nikos lost her temper and control of her Semblance before running away.
Then she somehow managed to fucking shred Ruby's dear friend—wait what, she was a robot, how does that even work, and now the transfer student is monologuing and terrorists are invading and also the Atlesian army is going rogue. Then Ruby sods off to god knows where to do something and Ozpin gives a Meaningful Nod to Pyrrha who somehow knows what's going on. Then you're taken to a secret underground bunker below Beacon and there's a comatose woman in some kind of machine which is apparently dangerous and Pyrrha gets in and starts screaming and then a mysterious woman shoots the comatose one which sucks some sort of magic out of her and Ozpin goes into serous wizard mode before sending you away. Then your partner out of nowhere kisses you before launching you away to do something.
The entire night was a nonstop series of back-to-back "what the fuck is going on" moments for Jaune, and everyone else seemed to be in the know.
