Imagine if Act 6 was three months, like Hivebent was. We meet the new kids for a bit, then the old cast shows up, fights the witch, wins the game, and off they go to the same Act 7 we got. It would've been fine.

Instead, it went on and on and on forever, adding in characters and subplots with no payoff.

As is, if you stop reading after Cascade, you'll be much more satisfied with the "ending" than you would be if you read the whole thing. Alternatively, you can skip Act 6 entirely, and go from Cascade straight to Act 7 (or at least [S] Collide), and it's actually MORE cohesive as an ending despite a full third of the story being chopped out, because that third is so superfluous to the plot.

Taking the story in a direction he never really planned out

Introducing a new set of 4 kids only slowed down the story even harder, with the Alpha kids being mainly filler to drag out the comic, with a few interesting tid bits but much of it being lowsy Teen Drama which was never the point of Homestuck

Homestuck was kids playing a game that changed the world

Starting a Kickstarter for a game. Hiveswap
It slowed down all progress on the comic as a man who never was never good at managment began to make poor deals and got most of the money stolen. He tried to make the game come out around the time Homestuck ended but because of his shitty business decisions he ended up firing a whole staff and then had his whole team learn how to make a game from scratch, which of course costs cash

That caused a dwindling interest in the general public, so he pandered more and more of the comic to Tumblr, which is home to loyal fucks, give one thing to Tumblrites they are loyal and will drive shit into the ground. This pissed off a lot of readers because Pandering is different from Fan Service.

Then a full year with no updates, and a 6 month hiatus. The general audience no longer cared leaving Tumblr, Reddit, and 4chan the only places outside of Cons to talk about it.

Due to all the drains he had, legal issues, Making a Game, Running a Company, having a to watch all your peers get more popular. He ultimatlly ended up Having no inspiration to give the ending much effort, so he payed other artisits to finish and didn't give many a satisfying conclusion, then out of the Blue a traier for Hiveswap and now the updates being moved to Instagram which makes less sense and is in general is a poor choice, and only exists to try and get random uses to read and get into Homestuck, which won't work as most people aren't going to set aside weeks to read a full fucking Webcomic that has been going on for years

Tumblr only cares about THE GAY, much less story quality

Leading up to it, there was a time skip right in the middle of the story when everyone was still in the middle of their arcs, what little we saw of the time skip was then magiced away by time travel into a separate timeskip we saw even less of. Practically every character either regressed and lost all of their development or characterization or became something horribly off base from what they were (one went from having grown into someone very down to earth and reasonable, into a melodramatic whiner about how bad his childhood was, and how toxic masculinity ruined him) A plan to save the day was plotted out, told to the audience in detail, and went off without a hitch. TWO Deus Ex Machinas were used to save the day, one of which was never mentioned nor implied until the moment it was used. Despite every indication being that the villains had some kind of trump card, and everything was going according to plan, there were no reveals of such a nature, in fact, despite a huge number of loose ends there were no reveals whatsoever. Over half of the closing animation was spent on watching a frog flying into a hole. Finally, we never saw how or even if the invincible antagonist was defeated.

I used to enjoy Homestuck a lot but I stopped reading it in 2013~2014 with the long ass hiatus. I thought about going back to reading it, but seems like it's better left that way in my memory. At least the music is still fine[?].

Homestuck began and ended as a mess of literary experiments glued together. He did not care about literary quality, ever -- only his personal satisfaction. If it was funny, he would do it. And any writer that rambles about how much he likes "trolling the reader" cannot be trusted to deliver anything remotely satisfying.
Either way, the lack of care might be where the genius feats of creativity came from, but it meant a lack of quality control, and it also meant Hussie never really cared about it as a whole, cohesive story.

That's why it never became an epic. To Hussie, Homestuck was a...... distaction.

The biggest mistake of Homestuck is the relationship of the four kid. The trolls are usually blamed for this, though I think one troll stands above the rest as being the reason why Andrew purposefully destroyed the close friendship of the original four. It's because of Kanaya.

Yes, Dave was close with John. Technically Jade was friends with Rose. But Dave was close to Rose than John and Jade closer to John than Rose. The close relationship between Rose and John was what held together the four and defined the first 3 acts. Rose's friendship with John, and subsequently the dynamic of the four, was sacrificed to emphasize the importance of Kanaya in Rose's life. I also think this was done to emphasize that each of the four was their own player. Otherwise, they'd end up as side-pieces, though important side-pieces, to John' story.

Hell, I will admit they have nice art and nice music, but it kind of stops at that. The headcanons were signs to what it actually is: it's just a story to satisfy the headcanons of the writers.

But what really made me angry is that people told them about it and this actually had big potential. And they screwed it up in nearly every way possible
