It's a really poor way of worldbuilding though. Your audience shouldn't have to look up supplementary materials constantly to keep up with how your universe works. If you want to present how something is, say culture in Menagerie, show it in the work itself. The challenge, though, is being able to do that without relying on "as you know" all the time.

There is no defending it. I actually liked this WoR, it gave some undeniable clarity about some small Faunus quirks which, despite being perfectly evident by now thanks to some hints here and there(some small, some quite big), some people kept arguing opinions and/or doubts about, like how Faunus traits are transmitted and how Faunus are or aren't accepted around Remnant.

So I noticed a thing that I just realized annoyed me, that there a number of characters who are around, and do nothing, until they actually need to do something.

Penny and Pyrrha, and by an extension JNPR, did nothing to really contribute to the plot until V3, but they were around. Sun did stuff in V1, but sat around on his ass until V4 because they had nothing for him to do until then. Blake was just sort of there in V3 until Adam showed up, and Ruby, outside a few scenes through the series, still hasn't done much of anything.

It's what happens when you add too many characters. In Game of Thrones it works because of the way it's presented, but this show doesn't have that benefit. Game of Thrones is structured completely differently and has the bulk in each season to make up for it. RWBY has none of that. It's why Ruby still doesn't have development.
