id rather see him get toxin and eddie get anti-venom. itd make more sense given toxin being mostly house trained and eddie being violently anti-smybiotes

This issue turned up stupid pretty goddamn fast.

Obviously the symbiote is in pain. So this is gonna be a 3 issue series where it jumps ship and finds a new host or returns to Flash right?

RIGHT!? ;_;

>>87885002
...so what's stopping the Venom symbiote from just saying "fuck this guy" and just leaving him immediately?
>>
>>87885288
guessing eddie will spend most of the run hunting the new guy down thinking its the suit. finds out it was the guy and the suit had changed. venom is absorbed by toxin with the laters personality going dormant. leads into a new run back with eddie
>>
>>87885268
It gonna be bad writing. "Hey Flash,my Anti-Venom powers keep manifesting,so I need to dump Toxin on someone. Take it,he can make pretty fancy legs". And Toxin is like "I 'm just symbiote bitch without my own opinion"
>>
>>87885315
Look i just try to look at the bright we just wait to this thing to flop and then then Venom returns to Flash or Eddie if they still want to do the OG stuff and give Toxin to Flash, but i doubt any of that happening

>>give the symbiote the best character development it's had in years

Oh, yeah every bit of space shit was cancer
>>
>>87885437
You mean Venom is the best thing to happen to Flash Thompson. The symbiote was abused and brainwashed for all that time.
>>
>>87885487
Klyntar stuff is pretty good. It's just happens to quick and Ben-10 style.
>>
>Carnage shows up
>YOU ARE NOT A BITCH, YOU ARE A STRONG, INDEPENDENT KLYNTAR WHO CAN GO SO FAR.
>Toxin series in 2017, with a new host, Tonya Xin, a half Asian, half Black bigender protagonist who shows the symbiote that it's 2017, the era of social justice and that there are rights for everyone, including symbiotes and it features symbiote fetishists as a villain for the first arc.

He's garbage so it doesn't matter too much.
>>
>>87885862
>thinking Sandoval is good

How do you read comics when you're blind?
>>
>>87885128
I like the twist of having the prior narration boxes be for the symbiote and not new dude. I also like the concept of an asshole taking advantage of dindu nuffin Venom. But goddamn he overpowered Venom way too fucking easily. I get that something's obviously wrong with the symbiote so it's weak but that was one-sided. I also don't like the voice the author is giving Venom.

Overall I'll keep reading this book but I'm wary, the writing is iffy and Sandoval's art, while I loved it on New Avengers does not fit the tone. And Marvel, STOP WITHHOLDING PLOT INFO JUST TO DRIVE SALES. They do this shit all the time nowadays.

There's a difference between rehashing shit with the same characters, the role of a hero or villain being passed to a different person, and some random person taking up the role of an abandoned hero or villain name.

This new "Venom" series is the case of the third.
>>
>>87885963
Yeah, its not like the symbiote has ever just existed without a host before. Its not like it spent months, without a host, just chilling in a church. Its not like it walked away from nearly dying by bells in said church without any problem.
>>
>>87886044
The story itself was shit. But the origin they gave for the Venom symbiote was great.
>>
>>87886007
>He has literally no concept of anatomy what so ever

Well that's just wrong.

>He only knows how to draw one face

As if that isn't a problem with most Big Two artists? Gimme a break. He's expressive, and that's what counts for me.

>His page layouts are often overly busy and confusing. And so on...

Maybe if you have ADD and can't focus on something for more than two seconds? I have never had a problem with this.

>>87886011
What the fuck is anime about his art aside from the goofy hair? That's a noncriticism if I ever heard it.

I like the guy, his action is expressive and dynamic, his inks are good, and he always gets good colorists. You don't have to like his style, I'm not singing his praises as objectively the best artists ever... But that doesn't make him a shit artist.

And Ramos literally just can't draw right. If you think they're similar you're a pleb who needs to take some art classes.
>>
>>87886132
>He's expressive
That's some hilarious justification for "utter shit".

I'll give you that art is subjective but i
He's definitely on the lower tier of artists talent wise, many of his character look very similar, there are absolutely anime influences and saying "he isn't trying to be realistic" isn't a good excuse for drawing proportions poorly.

Really the anime shit is what gets me, adds an extra layer of cringe.

If this DOES end up with Venom going evil again, the symbiote had better start off by making this guy haemorrhage his own guts out just out of anger for trying to control it.

This guy is cartoonish levels of edge, to the point where I suspect it's deliberate.

Also, pic related is a teaser from #2, posted on Twitter.

I sure hope that the symbiote just fucking kills this guy after the first few issues and finds a new host.

Why can't we have a chick host be a lead? Zeb Wells was going to do it with Carnage in the Family Fued story, but chickened out and gave the Carnage symbiote back to Cletus right away.
>>
>>87886884

That's why I wasn't a fan. It was meant to be "look at all these obscure/forgotten Spiders teaming up to take on multiversal threats" and quickly turned into "Spider Gwen and Friends."

So...Venom just grow his lost fingers back? Jeeeez, why didnt it do it, when it was attached to Flash.
>>
>>87888562

I guess whole legs are harder than two small digits.

Or it was some weird mental block thing, like it didn't regrow Flash's legs (like the Carnage symbiote regrew Cletus's) because it was afraid that Flash would, I don't know, no longer need it as much with them back.
>>

>Venom just grow his lost fingers back?

Holy shit, you're right. I didn't even notice that.
>>
>>87885178
>This is the Venom you know and love, but a new host-

When will they fucking realize it can't be "the venom you know and love" when it's a new host? They act as if VENOM is just the symbiote, which is how they treat it anymore....back in the day, it was simply "the symbiote", the entire "Venom" persona was the direct result of it bonding with Brock and taking in his anger and hatred, it wasn't always just "oh i'm Venom", Brock created "Venom"

And I'm not saying people can't be fans of other hosts or anything, I just really hate the idea that "Venom" is just the symbiote and anybody who wears it is just the new "Venom", Spider-Man never called himself "Venom" when he wore it and likely wouldn't if he ever did, cut the malarky...it's like the writers themselves are casuals
>>
>>87888562

It could, judging by how he had legs when suited up. Flash just didn't accept them when he wasn't Venom-ing because one, suddenly having legs again would arouse a lot of suspicion and two, he was going through rough sorts in his early days and rejected even prosthetics.

Later on he used either the legs Venom gave him or prosthetics though.
>>
>>87888538

Pretty solid issue 1, thanks for the storytime OP, I really like how they make Lee very unlikeable from tbe get go, you can tell that you are not supposed to root for this man, and the fact that he's making Venom, a long time fan favorite suffer so, really drives home the heel factor. I also enjoy how they make you feel sorry for Venom, the first thing it tries to tell Lee is that they can be heroes and do good, it wants to be better, but it's too weak to fight off this shitty host and get onto someone worth while.

I eagerly await for Venom to bide it's time and drop Lee out of the sky mid Web swing and look for another host. Also the art makes me think of AIMvengers so I'm digging that. Can't wait for issue 2

Never mind the fact that you keep comparing this western comic book not to eastern comics, but fucking cartoons. Cartoons, in which animation almost invariably requires simplification.

Are you sure about that? I'm not really affected by 'Not Muh' and enjoy a heel arc from time to time, it's not like Venom pulled a Black Cat and said "Nope, I'm evil now", we see the symbiote trying to stop Lee from using it to kill, but we know that for whatever reason it's too weak to do anything about it. We also know that this relationship can't last, so I'm waitting to see Lee eat his shit and get killed off.

It's a bummer that most /co/mrads are screaming not Muh Venom at issue 1, but rather than join in on the /co/llective, I've decided to wait things out and see how it develops. sad symbiote.jpg
49KB, 400x475px
I have very mixed feelings about it, mostly negative.

First off, I'm still not happy Flash doesn't have the symbiote anymore, but it's really annoying I have to wait to find out how he even lost it in the first place. Also, it really doesn't help that the intro to the book starts off with a statement that's just plain wrong. The symbiote never made Peter angrier and more aggressive. That's something the 90's cartoon introduced. I really love that they're keeping the symbiote as its own character still though. And that it still wants to be a good hero like it was with Flash. That's why it was really sad to see it paired up to such a bad guy. The main character is not likable at all, but I guess that's the point. It irks me that he's able to overpower Venom so easily, but there's obviously something wrong with the symbiote, so I can deal with that. The premise of the host being the bad one in the relationship is an interesting one, so I'm willing to stick with this for a bit, especially since they said Flash plays an important role in the story. It's not gonna be easy with such a douche of a host though. Seeing Venom being treated so poorly is only gonna be worth it if there's some pay off and we see Lee Price getting what he deserves. We'll see where this goes, but I'm not hopeful, especially with how much they seem to be pushing the "VENOM IS THE BAD GUY AGAIN" angle.

Flash drugged the symbiote and used it as a personal slave, no matter how they turned that around later can change that or how hard they try to make the symbiote be attached to Flash (btw, having the symbiote talk has always been shit and ruins the entire mystique of it, always hated when they did this)

If you're around /co/ long enough to start to see that most of the posters on the board don't actually like anything. In the past few years we have gone from talking about comics and cartoons that we enjoy, to talking about everything in comocs and cartoons that we hate. >>
>>87890073
Eddie clearly wasn't the evil one in his situation. The symbiote learned anger from Peter's rejection. He did have hate from Spider-Man but he was planning to kill himself before the symbiote found him sensing his anger.
>>
>>87890113
Why assume that he'll be a mainstay host? I read this issue and my first thought with Lee was "I cannot wait for this fucker to be killed off." Im pretty sure you're not supposed to like him.

Venom being a monster like this is why they honestly think Venom was popular.

He absolutely was. The symbiote didn't plan on killing Peter UNTIL it learned that from Eddie. Remember, the symbiote loves Peter. It even saved him from the bells after it was rejected.

Take non-superhero comic threads and you generally get more enthusiasm and fanboy behaviour.

It's not like they didn't drug the symbiote for no reason. It had been a monster for awhile, especially after being on Gargan for so long. And you say "they turned that around later", but the drugs wore off in the second issue, and the symbiote still comes back to Flash, saying it will never abandon him. And if Flash started just not using the drugs, the military would've cut him off of the symbiote entirely, and neither of them wanted that. It turned into a good relationship for them both, whether you'll admit it or not.

And it's just my opinion that I've always liked the symbiote being its own character and having its own voice. It's a very important part of Venom for me. It's the whole point of symbiosis.

But that's no reason to assume that he'll remain the host by like issue 6 or 7 (when they start filling up the Volume 2 tradeback). When I first read the description of this Venom series I got the impression that Venom would be switching hosts throughout the series, and I have yet to see anything that makes me think otherwise.
>>87890226
Well, back in the day Monster Films like Aliens and Predator were popular as fuck, and Venom and the symbiotes kind of cashed in on that hype. So I can't really fault them for thinking that way I guess.

>To kill Spider-Man was the symbiote's reason for bonding to someone who had that much hate for Spider-Man like Eddie.

Then explain the last few pages of Web of Spider-Man #1. Or when the symbiote tried to leave Brock when it through Peter wanted it back on the beach (resulting in Eddie and the symbiote passing out because they could not be separated).

You're wrong. It bonded to Eddie because he was as angry as it was and it sensed that. It was a mutual feeling. But it didn't actively plan to kill Peter until Eddie suggested it.

If it did, it would have attempted to do so much, much sooner. Remember, it was sitting around in the church for months. And before that, between when it broke out of the Baxter Building and Web Of #1, it had no qualms about using hosts for its own gain.
>>

Jerm, I'm a big symbiote fan too (hell, I started the symbiote sunday threads), but I'm just not hopeful for this book at all. Given marvel's current track record, I don't see why this should turn out good, since only a few of their ongoings are any good at the moment.

Especially with the writer. I absolutely loved Scarlet Spiders, and while I kinda liked Web warriors, it was absolutely wasted potential. Like, almost every single issue was about the stupid Electros, and Spider-Gwen was the main character. How do you mess up such a fun concept? All the tie ins for Spider-verse were great!

I'm not optimistic about this series at all, and I hope it proves me wrong.

I'll still be buying it though because I hate myself.

Point was /co/ generally talks about capeshit like jaded ex-fans who hate everything new put out and just hope it would be as good as it used to be. Superhero shit is where most hate is directed at.

And with comics outside that, you generally dont get that attitude. Start a thread about french comics and you get recommends, little mini-storytimes for promotion and maybe some french lewd art thrown in the mix. Do the same with webcomic threads and people here generally focus on promoting the few actually good webcomics out there instead of confirming how most of them are shit.

Pretty sure this series is just a vehicle for Venom to be evil again and back with Eddie by the end in time for movie synergy.

The Symbiote is getting Reeked a la Game of Thrones, this edgelord is going to mindbreak it until it's nothing but a mindless killer again to undo all of Bendis's Klyntar crap without outright retconning it. I'm sure the book will end with this guy getting more than he bargained for and devoured by the new edgy symbiote.

Consider Carnage, there was no fucking way that Carnage, Marvel's most one dimensional villain, could have carried a comic past more than a four issue mini. But lo and behold, we're pushing towards 17 issues of Carnage, and that comic has been non stop fucking amazing. Anything can happen and that gives me hope for this new Venom series. Scarlet Spiders was literally the only thing from Spider Verse that was worth a damn, and Web Warriors just suffered from shit artists and pushing Spider-Gwen. I'm willing to give Venom a chance because my assumptions about comics at issue 1 have been wrong before, so I've been approaching them with an open mind.
>>87890824
The Klyntar thing never bothered me, it's how Bendis went about it that bothered me. It's a decent idea that he wrote like utter garbage.

>>
I don't like that we lost Agent Venom the very moment he came back, but I have to admit this is an interesting enough premise. That said, I don't want it lasting long, 6 issues would be my limit.

Venon looks terribly weak, enough to be dominated by a human without having to be sedated. I think it works as long as there's a good explanation (probably this thing about Flash saving the world and let both of them separated and terribly injured, kinda like when Carnage-Man went full FREE BIRD) but I'll only accept it if at some point Venom recover enough and gets back at him HARD.
>>
>>87890755
It's because you get way more people for cape threads than you would for Euro threads. Those threads may be nice and helpful, but they'll die in less than an hour because 95% of people here who actually read comics, are here for capes and as such it leads to way more shitposting on that front.

Symbiotes shouldn't be "good" or "evil", they should be mute alien creatures who bond to others physically and mentally in order to mutually benefit one another whatever their goals may be

I'm surprised too with Carnage, it's been pretty cool, and it would be 10/10 if they brought in some of Toxin's hero days into his personality.

>The Klyntar thing never bothered me, it's how Bendis went about it that bothered me. It's a decent idea that he wrote like utter garbage.

Personally, I don't mind the moralfag Klyntar thing, but I don't like how Bendis retconned everything prior to that as misinformation and lies.

I would be alright if, for example, the symbiotes were simply amoral blank slates in their natural state that are deeply molded by their hosts' emotions, but their symbiosis abilities come with an unexpected effect where a perfect symbiosis between a clean symbiote with a truly noble host allows the combination to be able to "align with the cosmos" and hear its voice, as some sort of higher symbiosis.

Such individuals would be hilariously rare, because a) symbiotes almost never leaving their home planet. b) Ideal hosts being rather rare, and c) by the point they get to a worthy host they're most likely already weighted down by the negative emotions of previous "not ideal" hosts.

That way you can have an arc of Flash and Venom slowly coming to terms with each other, getting past the sedation state, going through the codependency state (alcohol and violence respectively), and then after a healthy amount of character development by themselves, have them find the Agent of the Cosmos to help them clean Venom of all his rage and put them in true synch.

But avoid the Venom Space Knight costume

See, I thought that once a symbiote had bonded to a host for more than a certain amount of time, the bond was supposed to be permanent and would be fatal to both parties if they were separated?

Or was that another "detail" of symbiotes that was retconned and forgotten over time?
>>

I like this, it's a twist on the normal dynamic where the symbiote is violent and corrupts the host

now the host is evil corrupting the symbiote which wants to do good

The symbiote developed to such a degree it was no longer corrupting the host to do bad/violent thigns now it's the one being corrupted by the host

The symbiote is at the mercy of it's host not the other way around, flash will try to rescue it, it's like a hostage

No, they have to actively initiate the "permanent" bond.

But even still, the symbiote can leave the host as it sees fit (see: Eddie Brock).

It also didn't help that really he picked (imo) the most boring alternate universe Spider characters. I can't stand Spider-Gwen, hate Spider-Ham, Spider-UK and Spider-Man India are boring as fuck and don't care about Noir.

The only characters they used in the series that I actually liked were Anya and Lady Spider and Lady Spider was more because I enjoyed her Spider-Verse story and PAD's use of her in Spider-Man 2099.

Since Kaine lost the Other and is now dying of cell degeneration again (seriously Jackal you're such a fucking hack how have you not fixed that), and Peter and New-U are about to start the zombie apocalypse, my dream scenario is Venom-Kaine that saves his life.

Kaine going full-other, slaughtering Solus single handedly, saving time and space itself only to be killed off NOW would be the biggest crock of shit I've ever seen.

Hummingbird doesn't have her own standalone or anything yet and the Aztec apocalypse she's supposed to either precipitate or prevent hasnt happened yet, Kaine hasnt been her Champion yet so it'd be such shit writing for them to just forget about araceley. Her end of the world scenario is way cooler than clone conspiracy's shitty not-zombie apocalypse.

Acceptable scenarios: Kaine dies, but Huitzilopochtil-Araceley revives hI'm as her crazy Aztec-Spider-Champion.

Venom-Kaine (almost certainly not going to happen because it would be cool and marvel hates cool shit)

Kaine finds a deus ex machina cure for his degeneration and is just regular scarlet spider again

The Other somehow comes back and it's possession cures Kaine (again)

Kaine switches bodies with someone using Doc Ock's retarded plot device bullshit. I'd like it if Ock got stuck in a slowly dying Kaine but that's probably too much to ask. Fuck, doc ock is such a stupid and lame villain

What will probably happen:Kaine dies for bullshit reasons, Araceley is forgotten about or even worse permanently joins the new warriors.

GOAT:Kaine is cured, reuinited with Araceley, the two of them return to Houston to make events and deal with the coming crazy Aztec sixth age apocalypse

In TAS 21 Kaine finds out the degeneration supposedly has no cure and that, based on the alternate universe kaine's corpse, he's due to die very soon. He makes Karn promise to keep it a secret from spidergwen, and Karn says it's Kaine's "final chapter"

Now obviously that's comic book cliff hanger bullshit and nobody said how LONG a chapter it would be, but I'm enough of a cynic to envision Marvel just killing him off and shipping hummingbird off to the Warriors. At least she can see through speedball's bullshit and knows he's still Penance.

No, sorry, you are being oblvious here. I am not sure you know anything about manga and anime at all, otherwise you would know that especially in classic anime they are not "just cartoons", they are trying to emulate the original manga's style as authentically as possible. Sailor Moon is an anime with the _most_ deviation from the original art. Many animes after it were super-authentic. If you had any clue about Manga style art you would see the tributes obviously. Aside from the strongly inked and broad-flapped hair, non-lip mouth and the typical face shapes you will find in every manga-style-art introduction, he uses the standard manga-art characterization markings. Those have been softened in the past decades a bit, but they are still what many new artists start out with and he clearly hasn't left that level yet. Look at his face in the first close-up. He is using the straight-slim eyebrows and slim-broad eyes in connection with a pointed straight nose. This is standard for headstrong, hot-blooded but also kinda shady characters. They are usually designated aggressive-heroes, anti-heroes but might also tap into villainy. They are drawn more attractive than regular villains to mark their position in the story (here: protagonist). This is manga art 101.

Another hint are the bold inked lines connected to slim detail lines and reduced but very carefully handled hatching which is opposed to commonly fine and softer lines in western art styles which prefer cross-hatches.

There is over-emphasis of bodily lengths, not only in the faces of action-guys, also generally in hands and arms. The mostly reduced backgrounds are a hint, too.

Hell, even the style of the gang guys is Japan inspired.

The art may be "western" because the artist is western, but the artist is also clearly inspired by Madureira, who himself was inspired by manga/anime.

If you fail to see the Japanese influence here, you fail at art. Was this detailed enough?

The Venom symbiote is not really the character though. When people think Venom, they think Brock. They don't think of any of the others except maybe Flash because he had it for quite a few years (even though I'm in the minority that was never interested in Agent Venom and didn't care for his stories too much).

Venom is very much a specific product of a specific character and time and just slapping it on some new guy doesn't work. If they're not going to have Flash as Venom anymore, then they need to bite the bullet, rid Brock of Toxin and give him the symbiote again.

Giving Eddie the venom symbiote won't fix shit, stop retconning and fucking up Venom just because you want Eddie back.

If you want to get Eddie back, you basically just need two things. He already has Toxin Symbiote which is basically the same as Venom, just put him back in Spider-man stories, give him a grudge against Spider-man again, and let him know Spider-man's identity. He was special because he could make it personal, this attribute was killed thanks to OMD.

There, its back to the old Eddie. The reason he's not old Eddie anymore is because he hasn't been allowed in a Spider-man book in ages, not because he doesn't have a black suit that's functionally the exact same as his current suit.

Venom finally had some development, you killed it to bring back muh Eddie, turns out that's not what happened and now its a ruined edgelord. Flash finally had good development, the symbiote had good development, Mania was good, now we just have this shit.

Could put Eddie in a Spider book and have those old feelings start to resurface and Eddie has to deal with reeling that old shit back in and trying to move past it. Though I feel like they've done this kind of shit like three times already.

Nigga, Lee looks like Zack Fair. This art looks like a half step from Antartic Press's 00's output.

Should I be afraid?

Grandma.
I'll never understand why the symbiotes are addressed with masculine pronouns, they're agendered at best.

'Cause men are hot.

I like the whole idea of the Venom suit trying to be the voice of reason, but they could have done it a lot better.

Same, that kind of thing is pretty cute.

Granted Screams a bitch still

Before that page he literally acknowledged that Scott was doing good and instead of talking he murdered him

Fuck this book

This was leading up to some symbiote event before Venom got pulled into Guardians of the Galaxy, right? I remember hearing something about that.

Yes, anon. Knowing modern comics, she'll show up only to be killed off and/or depowered.

Something about some grand spawning thing Eddie thought was going to happen for {REASONS}

So he became a self-righteous psychopath and hunted down all the hosts
>>
>>87897826
Yep, something about a great spawning that was being seeded all the way down from the Carnage U.S.A. mini back in 2011 or 2010
>>
>>87897878
>>87897894
And then it never happened, so all that was for nothing. Thanks, whoever made it not happen.
>>
>>87897920
It wouldn't been awesome because it seemed like it would had involved all the Symbiotes and comics were even getting their symbiote variants, and it would have been made by Rememder (who made axis and gave us carnage man around that time) and whoever was in charge of the carnage minis back them.
>>
>>87898241
Meant to say "would've" there?
>>
>>87898283
Damn typo, but yes, and then we had the king of hell story arc that got also cut when Cullen took over, and then his build up to venom becoming a batman of sorts got cut by Bendis, being a Venom fan has been suffering.
>>
>>87898334
Damn, so many missed opportunities.
