dude did a kickstarter.
got to a point where he had a couple hundred copies of the book still to send out, but not enough kickstarter (or personal) funds to afford to send them out to all the backers.

so he lit them all on fire, took pictures, posted them on line.

and thats as far as I know.

He wants people to give him money without expecting anything in return. Those 11 people are just giving him money. They aren't buying anything or funding any project. They are giving him money so he can buy food and pay rent.

> I want direct funding for my living necessities. I want to establish relationships with a group of people who can pay for my baseline needs like food and rent. I am looking for people who do not feel they need to see any “return” on their “investment.” I am looking for people who understand that money is a bad joke we use to hurt each other. I’m looking for people who like me were born with a lot of privileges but who have had the awareness and emotional stability to keep their bucket under the faucet when the money comes out.

> I am not looking for the support of anyone who wants a book, or wants to see me put stick figure comics on the internet. I do not need the support of anyone who thinks that I will deserve to eat and sleep only after I have fulfilled some standard they’ve chosen to hold me to. I am looking for people who believe that if you spend your life in a small room thinking, you deserve to live and breathe the same amount as someone who spends their life doing intense physical or mental labor, or who has money that "makes money."

>>
I remember at one point there was a continuation of the main comic where Paul's time as a ghost is up and he gets sent to hell where he meets Gary's roommate Jeremy. Hell is a hotel room with really poor wifi. It's also in some latin american country.

For some reason, presumably because the artist didn't feel like finishing the storyline and didn't want it to be half-finished, the entire lot was deleted and I haven't been able to find them since. Please tell me I didn't just dream them.
>>
>>87871247
Nope, this happens in the main comic.
>>
>>87871233
The comics I referenced have really blatant quotations from Eliot's The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock, which is a poem about getting old and nothing really mattering and not fitting in anywhere (among other things) so you can see why this guy loves it.

For example, Gary refusing the offer of a peach is literally a reference to "I do not dare to eat a peach", which we can tell to be a reference since the guy then alludes to the line "With a bald spot in the middle of my hair".
>>
>>87871247
Yeah that happened starting at page 213 of Pictures for Sad Children.
>>
>>87871233
Not him but "That is not it at all" and "do i dare to eat a peach" are both lines in TS Eliot poems. The second one is from The Love Song of Alfred J Prufrock. The patient man smelling ether on a table is also from Prufrock I think. They are references without any substance, the guy might like Elliot but he isn't using the references as anything but references. Too much DMT I guess.

The thing that gets friends of mine that know this story better is that, there are people helping him to set fire to those books.
You can see them in the video.

There people you can clearly see helping him with his fucking meltdown. Instead of persuading him to back down and be reasonable about things they are actively encouraging him to act like a crazy person.

These people are bad friends.

I wonder how much of his problems were because of them.

There used to be mirrors and torrents, but he used the Digital Millennium Copyright Act to get them all taken down.

https://www.reddit.com/r/sadchildrenbookclub/comments/53thju/my_life_is_not_an_arg_please_dont_post_about_me/

> People here and elsewhere on reddit have been distributing my work in private messages, posting links and creating torrents despite knowing that I do not want my work distributed. When I ask these people to stop, they either do not respond or flat out tell me no. The moderator of this subreddit told me they wouldn’t do anything about it. So I filed some “dmca”s and some of the links went down.

> Why would the direct requests of an artist about their work matter less than a “dmca”? Please don’t answer this question. Please don’t comment on this post. Please don’t try to contact me. Please don’t tell me you liked my comics or that you “hope things are better.” Please leave me alone. It has been horrible for me and many others to be exposed to the kinds of people who are allowed to “flourish” in this “community.”

> If you see people talking about me, please stop them or ask them to stop. If you see my work posted somewhere and have the power, please take it down. If you don’t have that power but you have a little free time, please file “dmca”s on my behalf or as me.

History is only as cool as the source that explains it. A tour guide or a plate that tells you that "This shit was built in honor of King Shitface, is tall as fuck and then somebody burned it, but it's fine now" is life draining experience. A plate or a tour guide who tells you that "This shit was built in honor of King Shitface by his secret lover, has a hidden basement full of skeletons, and as the legend tells, somebody was trapped between the walls for treason, and we found their bones, but as it turns out it wasn't this guy, but another guy who tried to find a hidden treasure of Sir Whatshisdeal and got himself stuck, and boy let me tell you about all the other weird shit that happend in here". History is full of fucking, shady deals, idiotic ideas and senseless violence. And the more you talk about it, the more interesting it is. Guess what's your typical Paris experience? There's a tower, there's a church, tall as fuck, take pictures, get the fuck out. It breaks my heart how this kind of shit makes people uninterested in our ancestry.

>Also, am I really going to have to save literally everything I ever enjoy because the internet isn't half as good as preserving these things as much as I'd like
I'm starting to realize this too. The internet archive is good but not perfect.

>>87871914
That's too bad

But if the stuff is saved on someone's harddrive I'm sure it'll come back into circulation
>>
So, OP died already. There goes a potentially great evening.

I hope he dies.

I think it's funny that such an ardent proponent of socialism believes he has a right to intellectual property

what a fucking hypocrite, if society finds value in art then that art belongs to society and he has no right to restrict its distribution

If it's a burn on social studies or philosophy, then he is right. If it's a burn on academics in whole, then he must be a social studies or philosophy graduate.

This, desu. I've always lived around the most beautiful views and lush landscape and now it's just...eh.
Like if I see a sunset that's just setting the whole world on fire and the mountains burn golden and the trees spread out like a city of pilgrims worshipping nothing but the sky
And it's just vaguely annoying. Beauty isn't real. It's just an arbitrary reason to maybe feel good.
