I really liked this scene.

Maybe it's because she feels that she's traded up now that she's pals with a very different daredevil blonde who has actual magic powers, perhaps it's a growing jealousy borne out of Marco's growing willingness to engage with his longtime crush, but for whatever reason, Janna hasn't been hanging out with Jackie very much lately.

They barely talked to each other during Sleepover and Janna didn't seem all that keen on greeting her at the start of this finale.

Yet in spite of that growing distance, the moment Jackie saw her old companion in trouble, she immediately rushed forward to save her from a pack of giant rats with zero hesitation.

Such a moment could've been the climax of its own episode, but it's briefness here did little to diminish its meaning and worth.

Man, I would be so so much more invested in Jackie if they had given her any screentime that was as substantial as this before this episode.

She was on the ball in character here that it made me feel bad that I didn't feel as invested as I could be if they had her be more like this more frequently instead of "cool girl Marco wants to date". Well if that leak is any indication, maybe they'll work on it

Well I think a big factor in what form the ending takes is what Daron herself planned for. If 3 seasons was the intended run time then there's a lot she could do with the ending, given that we're only halfway through season 2 and things are starting to ramp up.

Whilst I do think the show will likely end on a rather typical, feel good ending with Star and Marco going back to the usual hijinks once the big bad is defeated, the reality of Star's temporary tenure on Earth is something that is unlikely to be ignored. But who knows what the ending will look like, given the existence of dimensional scissors. Star would likely have a lot less time to hang out when she went back to Mewnie, but the show could just gloss over that.

I didn't dislike her in the first season but her role in Mewberty felt a little forced. Just some character we've barely seen apparently knowing Marco well and stalking him offscreen felt too lolrandom.

Though that season she also had "I want it to be my boyfriend" and "Let's go to the morgue!", so I thought she had potential. Glad they've expanded on all of the above this season; she's great like all the time now and is much better as a supporting character than Marco's loser friends.
