For one, he'd be insistent to the MCU studios that they NOT shove it in as a half-assed Captain America sequel, and actually save it for a Phase 4 finale movie, because the actual Civil War comic storyline has more heroes in it than could be squeezed into the actual movie that was made. Civil War's current placement in the MCU makes little to no sense whatsoever. Why break apart the Avengers if they're just going to get back together 3 or 4 movies later to fight Thanos in Infinity War?? It's a fucking WASTE. It makes SO much more sense if the Infinity War happens first, and at that point, it seems like the Avengers couldn't be closer with each other after having saved the entire universe from a mad titan, which makes the rift between factions even more dire and emotionally striking.
For two, the Superhero Registration Act (NOT the "Sokovia Accords" shit) would be created by the UN as a result of a casualty incident on-par with 9/11, with similar consequences to such an event, in profiling the prime suspects of the incident, superheroes. And not just the Avengers, I'm talking ALL superheroes in the world, since there's sure to be plenty of heroes by the end of Phase 4 to operate outside the Avengers. The superhero-profiling would be enough of a conflict catalyst for the main rift between Iron Man and Captain America, instead of it revolving around Tony Stark's cowardly insecurity (an aggravating side effect of his continual character derailment in the MCU storyline) vs Steve Roger's yaoi relationship with Bucky. It would be rooted in actual beep politics among these heroes instead of half-assing it by saving the only good bits of philosophy for the fucking trailers. Oh, and Zemo wouldn't be the one pulling the strings to all of this, especially not a Zemo that's as horribly fucked up as the one in the actual movie. There doesn't even NEED to be a villain in Civil War.

More importantly, it wouldn't be limited to a pathetic little fight at an airport… it would be an actual Civil WAR. An all-out WAR among superheroes, and a LOT of them, too. Plenty of them would actually get killed off, so that the war actually has some beep meaning to it. But most importantly of all, is Spider-Man's true role in the Civil War story. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely LOVE Tom Holland's Spider-Man, and his characterization was totally flawless. But his placement in Civil War was anything but. Tony just dragged him out of his aunt's apartment in Queens to plop him into Team Iron Man and tease Homecoming for all of us. That's pretty much all Spider-Man is good for in Civil War, and that's NOTHING compared to what's coming up here. What SHOULD happen is that in the middle of the devastating war, Spider-Man decides to abandon the whole "pick a side" shtick of the war and go in to save civilians that are caught in the midst of the war's destruction. When Captain America sees this, he realizes that Spider-Man is inadvertently showing them all that they've lost their way as heroes, and forgotten what it truly means to be a hero, prompting Captain America to end the war by sacrificing his life… All of this happened in the comics, and there's absolutely no fucking reason why it can't happen in an MCU film. There's no excuse for it.

Let's face it, despite what we've been fooled into believing, Civil War SUCKED, and Zack Snyder would have made it SO much better. Not only would the plot be massively improved, but the camera angles and shot framings would actually be interesting, the intensity of the action would be striking and accurate to the emotional turmoil of the plot, the dialogue would be properly arranged so that it's not bloated, lazy exposition and hammy one-liners, but instead, minimized to plot-relevant speech that's actually meaningful, said ONLY when it NEEDS to be said, as well as the humor having actual WIT to it, and allowing the visuals of the film to illustrate the story when the dialogue doesn't need to. Show, don't tell, is one of the most important rules of filmmaking. Zack Snyder has ALWAYS obeyed this rule with the utmost relevance, and the MCU seems to use this rule like beep toilet paper. Would the colors be a bit grayscale compared to the other MCU films? Maybe so, but that's NOTHING to whine over, especially since the Civil War storyline is undoubtedly one of the darkest moments in the Marvel comics canon, so it makes total visual sense to tone down the eye-blinding technicolor just a tad bit.
That is how Zack Snyder would direct Civil War. WAY BETTER than the fucking Russo Brothers could have ever made it, that's for sure.

That man has made one good movie; Watchmen.
And the only reason it was any good was because the actual comics were his script and storyboards, and he STILL managed to fuck it up here and there.
Zack Snyder would have a gnarly DP/special effects director. As an actual movie director, he is laughably bad.
