The point?
Successfully making the company money would be ultimately it.
The motifs of the show are mostly self-image and expectations, rebellion and reconciliation embedded in themes of love and family grouped around the main character's development.
Looking over it all, the show kinda forms guidelines of how to human condition in terms that children are supposed to pick up on, at least on a subconscious level.

They have precisely not gotten over it.
They have dragged their baggage around a long time and they are pretty much chipping away at aspects of it.
Pearl has been coming to terms with her ill-fated love for Rose, her self-worth as a Pearl and her relationship with Greg.
Amethyst has been struggling to find a meaningful identity and purpose for herself and fallen woefully short when she found one.
Just like Peridot and Lapis, they keep developing and working on their issues.
They don't have easily resolved problems and the show incorporates these problems as part of the characters, not just one-off plot devices.
And they have made headway.
Peridot has learned the value of life, discovered meaning beyond her function and made friends. She still has a ways to go before she stops being unable to pick up on the mood with a fork lift or otherwise read emotions and react to them.
Lapis has begun to learn trust again, but continues to struggle with guilt and 6k years of abandonment.
And you better believe that Jasper's arc of dealing with her self-hatred and trauma is coming in hot now.

Man, I kind of wish it was made more blatant, since I felt like they were just cock teasing us whenever Jasper showed up, or other gems were around, or anything about the war is mentioned; they gave us some sort of expectation that more important or serious/important things were going to happen, instead of cute gems doing cute things. The characters are nice, and the plot is interesting, alongside all the break of the social norms, but the mind-boggling slow pacing of the show keeps me from fully enjoying it. I think you hit the nail on the head there. It's been bothering me lately how come I've been bored throughout all these recent filler episodes when I really enjoyed a lot of Season 1's fluff.

It's just not fun anymore. I can't even remember a single funny joke from this season that wasn't more than an offhanded chuckle. I haven't had a good laugh since Back to the Moon. The worst part is, it's not even presented as "comfy"; the recent episodes just play out as a bunch of stuff that just happens, and an unsubtle on-the-nose message slapped at the end.

I don't mind SoL but they've been handling it poorly lately, in both pacing (even without the hiatuses) and content. The corrupt gems, Steven's new doubts, Homeworld probably preparing another response after so many went missing... after all that heavy shit a breather is expected and needed, but its dragged on for so long without even mentioning those issues that its not really feeling like a breather anymore, it feels like they just forgot or live in a different timeline.

And the breather episodes aren't even that good. I remember what I liked as a kid and if this season is all I had to judge the show by I probably would've started changing the channel whenever it came on.
