I have when somebody in entertainment pushes this "Go VOTE!" bullshit

The popular vote means nothing. Not only is that not how the election works, but it also isn't even representative of the whole population. This year was an all time low for voter turnout. 55%. so she got 48% of 55% of America behind her, assuming we ignore the busloads of people her campaign staff were shipping around to vote in multiple precincts in Pennsylvania.

If I were to pity anyone in this cultural shitshow for anything, it'd be all those people who modeled fictional presidents after Hillary Clinton. Whether it was because they thought they could "groom" people into loving her as their first woman president as much as they did, or because they were just excited, they were far, far off the mark, and she's probably never going to get another go at it. They'll never be able to say "I called it". And for that, and that alone, I pity them, because being able to say "I called it" is one of the few universal joys in this world.

>and it wasn't only straight white males that voted for him
Trump's lowest turnout came from minorities and young voters. The reason why Hilary lost is because most everyone didn't bother to vote this election hence the lower turnout over so less than half the country voted for Trump that portion was always going to vote for him while Hilary for pushing all her hope on the most fickle demos to support her when she lacked the chemistry Obama had so they either didn't turn out to vote at all hence why she lost all the swing states.

What gets me about all of these millennials protesting about Trump and how "terrified" they are that their civil liberties are under fire or whatever is that most of them didn't even vote. Voter turnout was barely over 50% and that statistic is only of registered voters.

How many of those 20-something tumblrinas pulling their pink undercuts out in frustration were actually registered and ever planned on voting in the first place?

I hate this excuse. Trump won fair and square and by the same rules democrats won the previous election and the one before that.
And do you realize how flimsy her popular vote win was? It's by a million votes difference, less than one percent of all the votes. And then compare that to the 100 million americans who didn't vote. Don't you think that if there was a re-election, there would be a high chance that Trump would win by a really small difference?
Just accept the defeat.

Personally I think the smart move is nixing politics in comics altogether and getting back to what used to make them great: suspenseful plots, deep stories, character arcs and well done action, pic related

>And lets be honest, this generation is NOT cut out for a draft.

Speaking as a military member, it's closer to the truth to say that the military is not cut out for this generation. We have our heads up our collective asses. Incompetent military leaders preach order and discipline above all else, and hold every tradition in the book as law. Meanwhile all our shit is broken or missing and our troops are physically and mentally exhausted. 40% of our army is undeployable, because leaders insist on exercise routines that are not just unhealthy but flat out abusive. Making our military more effective takes a back seat to appearances. It is absolutely not the fault of the new generation. It is entirely our military leadership who want to PLAY army rather than BE army.

A huge number of soldiers in front line combat MOSs haven't been trained on basic shit like using a radio or their first aid kit, much less any of the more complicated equipment. Many of them don't know how to use a gas mask properly. The unit I'm in would be completely wiped out if we went against a military that had the training and fitness of a semi-pro paintball team. God forbid we ever deploy somewhere that isn't Korea.

If you knew just how bad a shape our military is in, you would be terrified of the prospect of war.

Because most of them were so sure -everyone- agreed with the "Trump is evil" rhetoric and there would be no way it wouldn't be a landslide victory for Hillary, so they didn't bother. It was voter apathy born of overconfidence, when the truth was that most Republicans, even the ones who didn't exactly like Trump, were going to vote for him anyway because they still saw him as a better choice than "Lyin' Hillary."

Millennials think all you need to do to "make a difference" nowadays is to like and share shit on social media. What they don't realize is that most popular social media sites, especially Facebook, are designed to be echo chambers, so you only see what is tailored to you and the shit you share will only really reach like-minded people.

It's mostly because America wants to do 'nation-building'. What the fuck is nation-building? The Middle East is a shithole. It will ALWAYS be a shithole. No army can succeed in a foreign land where the natives hate you, unless your plan is to raze the place and kill everyone.

Insanely, Trump's stupid-ass plan actually makes sense, since it's basically "Yeah, fuck those guys, we're done." with a side-helping of "WHY are we antagonizing Russia again? That's for retards."

Hahahaha no.

Trump got Romney's votes in those states. Hillary underperformed in those same states. Hillary lost because she underperformed compared to obama, not because Trump is some great converter.

Keep in mind that most voters vote their party without knowing anything about the people on the ticket. That's why the two party system can't be beaten by a third party. You could be a third party candidate with the best ideas and the best everything and you'll still lose.

Republicans vote in every election while democrats are kinda wish washy on that.

Oh. This thread is going to be fun.

Did you think that despite /pol/ being a thing, most people didn't vote because they're racist?

That a lot of them had fears about the economy, which the Dems and moreso their very vocal supporters appeared to value less than identity issues?

That even though Trump has kind of a vague and crazy plan, he convinced people that he fucking CARED.

>>87789745
Actually, if you look at Hillary's husband's presidency, you'll see his actions were MUCH more alarming. He removed more restrictions for money in politics and controls on finance and international trade than anyone after him.

The economy would have crashed right as Bush was elected if it weren't for the housing bubble, which never would have been possible without old Billy Clinton looking out for his school chums in finance who were just so clever they HAD to be trustworthy.

"Listen, Liberal" is a must read for anyone on the left still confused as to how Trump got elected, or retreats into cries of bigotry.

Like, I'm pretty sure Trump would get circumcised and marry a F-M trans nigger if he thought it would get the job done.

Hillary did her campaign a huge disservice by not having Bernie as a running mate. The dems have a huge problem with people getting complacent and not showing up to vote or getting picky and not showing up to vote.

My state wound up with a republican governor, not because anyone was dissatisfied with the democrat governor we had but because nobody showed up to vote during the mid terms because they were just too comfortable and figured the dem governor would easily win another term because "who would vote against him, right?"

But keep in mind that obama got the most votes out of any presidential candidate ever in both 2008 and 2012. Hillary is stacking up to be #2 in the number of popular votes while trump will be #4 after George bush jr.
>>
>>87790259
All states have equal representation. The problem is that people get direct democracy and representative democracy confused.

Your vote is weighted just as heavily as anyone else's, FOR YOUR STATES REPRESENTATIVES IN THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE.

There is literally no "tyranny of the majority" from either side.

You even have Congressional elections offset in election years so that if people change their mind and think Trump is ruining things (Like how Obama fucked up the 2008 recovery and his voting base in the middle class never saw any of the benefits of the economic recovery and voted for the guy who didn't protect the banks over the people with "too big to fail" and lost the Democratic super majority in Congress) so if something like that happens people can block the process until they have another Presidential election. Or vice versa.

Hey, want to talk about how Clinton made the Housing bubble possible and Obama fucked up fixing it, ironically doing more damage to Americas middle class out of arrogance as opposed the to Republicans intentional depriving them of support?

>The states are equally represented. It's kind of like, you know, one of the basic if not THE main building block of the entire nation.

I just can't believe people are so short-sighted that they can't see the benefit of this sort of system. No one in the US actually treats the nation like one, unified country, and I'm sure they wouldn't like the idea of their states being shut out of the process. Have they never considered that the future might bring changes that they can't expect? That they might one day find themselves in the same situation that the midwest states are in now? Or that the biggest states might turn bug-fuck crazy?

Well if you weren't, you wouldn't be an officer for long.

To give non military guys an idea of how we got here (and correct me if I'm wrong, I'm enlisted, shit works different down here), promotions are based on sucking up. You have a rater above you who gives you an evaluation. One bad eval and you stand a pretty good chance of getting passed over when you're due for promotion. Get passed over twice and you're out of the army.

Reasons for getting a bad eval include but are not limited to:
Having bad news of any kind
Someone below you broke something
You couldn't do training because of the weather
Some fucking NCO didn't do what they were told and your rater decided to blame you
Your weekly powerpoint slide sucked
You run slow

The US of A has some of the strongest checks and balances to keep the Government from exerting undue tyranny over the nation.

I've just mentioned that Midterm elections for Congress are a thing, so, you know.

You could try and rally support to take back Congress as a Democrat in 2018, much the same way the Teaparty did in 2010 against the Democratic supra majority.

And then, with the Tea Party dictating the Republicans due to their strong presence in ALL levels of government and their consistent ability to get people to come out and vote for non-presidential elections, if the SJKEKS copy that and somehow manage to not get suckered into infighting or alienating people with their honestly batshit insane and offensive caterwauling - seriously, learn to fucking compromise. You get to pick if everyone is kind of happy or all the way unhappy. You can't force people to think like you, only hope that if you ARE correct then you will be vindicated in time because everyone not agreeing with you isn't a moron. But you might be -

Well, maybe third parties will finally be a real thing.

> Last day in office, Trump signs presidential decree changing FPTP to instant run-off.
>>
>>87791625
Not to mention the way Hillary's supporters presented their issues - which, I will have you note, were "soft" logic issues of morality and social conduct for which there are many shades of grey - tossing out any fucking nuance and making them seem to be unable to compromise for the good of the nation - watching people go from arrogantly talking about coming together to heal the nation to "FUCK IT I'M A LEAF" literally as the election happened was disgusting. Not even funny, although their brain collapse was.

Trump has no interest in wrecking the system despite what the media tells you.

He's so far selected his staff based on capabilities not ideologies. Yeah, that means he's working with shitty people but honestly in Politics and Business in America you pretty much just have to choose your flavour of shitty.

The nation is designed so that it's exceedingly difficult to change anything in two years if he's really fucking up, or 4 if the Dems can pull their heads out of their asses, and honestly if he makes it 8 and ruins the nation everyone fucking deserves it on both sides. It takes two to have an argument, and two to have a dialogue.
