Many fish have bones. They have definition. Shape. Very specific at that. Likewise so do dolphins. Their tail is an extension of the spine. Again. Same in aquatic mammals.

What they don't have is fucking knees. Your legs don't come off of your spine. Nor do your arms. Your spine is a single, long, uninterrupted column of vertebrae and the tail is a continuation of that.

Knee joints on a spine make little sense without the femur, tibia, or fibula. It's a fishtail, isn't it?

Or it's a pair of legs with skin and scales blanketing them and enclosing them. Which would make for a slower swim speed than the former, and, separating the two vestigial legs inside would be possible via surgery. Because this is a rare but real problem in humans called sirenomelia.
