I think it's great. If you like Wolverine it's definitely worth a shot. It's less of an origin, and more of just a beginning so don't expect it to completely fill in everything up to modern Wolvie.

Origin II is terrible, but the original Origin was groundbreaking when it came out. It probably doesn't seem so impressive now since the movies adapted it some, but it's good comics.

Try to find just the original Origin tpb for $5 and save your money though.

What are the chances of DC reprinting the Red Robin series? They're OOP.

On topic part of post: My next recent purchase will be the first two Chuck Dixon Tim Drake Robin trades and other Robin books.

I don't think DC reprints anything but Watchmen by this point.
>>

Well. DC is reprinting a bunch of Dixon work like BoP and Nightwing. They are also printing Waid's Flash which I thought they'd never do. Plus Cass Batgirl. The cool thing about those books is that they collect twice the number of comics from their original paperback collections. I would kill not to have to pay OOP prices on Red Robin trades AND get twice the number of issues in reprinted collections.

>>87793927
I don't know where you get your delusions, but Legionnaires gets reprinted because Mark Waid wrote it, Checkmate because Greg Rucka wrote it.
It was probably a deal between them and DC to keep them bound.
If one of them had wrote a longer stint on Robin, it would have gotten reprinted.

The Goon #4 is on its way, apparently. Main wishlist bits include -

>Invisibles + The Filth - £75
>Zenith - £30
>Transmetropolitan Absolutes - £90
>Baltimore HCs - £75

not /co/ but how is that copy of house of leaves? Ive been meaning to delve into the whole thing and was wondering if I should splash on the edition you have?
>>
>>87795821

okay I just went through everything related and the reason a few issues (064, 066, 067, 068, 078, 087, 094 and 116) are omitted is because

The run itself has 275 issues and 12 annuals, annual 01 & 03 are reprints, the rest is aready in the TPBs. the most recent TPB (33) was released this month and it collects issues 259-267 so that leaves 8 more uncollected issues, which is exactly 1 TPB.

All 55 issues of King Conan/Conan the King are collected, as are all 235 issues of Savage Sword of Conan. Didn't look up Kull yet and frankly don't have the time right now.

Anyway: on comicbookdb I found some infos about the issues that weren't reprinted:
>Issue 064: Series inker Steve Gan was not able to deliver the cover-featured story, so issues #64 contains a reprint of Savage Tales #5. The story occurs between the events of Conan #44-45.

>Issue 066: no info. I'm guessing it's because Red Sonja is in it though

>Issue 067: Continued from Conan The Barbarian #66 and marvel Feature: Red Sonja #6. Continues in Marvel Feature: Red Sonja #7.
as I thought.

>Issue 068: this one is reprinted in chronicles of Kull TPB 03

>Issue 078: Reprints Savage Sword of Conan 001

>Issue 087: Reprints Savage Sword of Conan 003

>Issue 094: No info here whatsoever, this issue apparently hasn't been reprinted anywhere.

>Issue 116: Reprints the so called Book and Record Set (45 rpm) (1974) PR31. It's already reprinted in one of the TPBs

So yeah, The Red Sonja issues are probably planned to be released somewhere else, that logically just leaves Issue 094 out and I don't know why. That one and the Red Sonja related issues were all done by Thomas/Buscema so you can rule out Alan-Moore-type problems.

Is that the Trade or the Library Binding?
In any case, always go for the LB if it's affordable, you won't find anything sturdier than that except if you can travel back in time and ask the monks of some medieval monastery to make a proper leatherbound book on uterine vellum parchment for you, which should cost you around 50 Gold-Taler and which would take another half a year to make.

Library Binding:

The new Dark Horse stuff is a modernization and reimagining of the character. Classic Conan is more silver/bronze age influence. The pacing is typically silver/bronze age while the modern Conan is more focused on, well, plot, action and all that shit.
The classic run was pioneered by Roy Thomas and Steve Buscema, they're really a great team, while most of the new stuff was written by Kurt Busiek, who is also a really great Conan writer. You can see how he both read the classic Conan runs by Thomas AND read the actual stories by Howard because he sometimes adds shit that wasn't in the classic run (too bloody or too sexual).
It's both really good, mind you, since literally anything works with Conan.
And the Colossal Conan is just a symbol of status. The HCs and trades are as good. There' sa new Omnibus type TPB run coming out, the first one is going to be released in december I think.
And while we're at it, you may also want to take a look at the original stories of Howard because they're fucking awesome in their own right.
He always managed to get it just right, you just have to like Conan even though he's a scoundrel and vagabond, sometimes an asshole and a thug, but he's always ready to defend a damsel in distress and the stories itself are very captivating and you never feel that he's a marty-stu character.
I always feels it's a fucking shame that Howard decided to shoot his head off so early.
So yeah, both new and old Conan are pretty awesome. I'm not particularly a fan of the late 80s to early 2000s stuff though, it kind of feels lackluster.
Also if you're going for the novel books, only get Howard's stuff, an overwhelming amount of books written by other writers is just shit.

yeah there was apparently a batch coming at bookdepository and I was really interested but I was out of funds at the time and the price shot up like mad. Besides, I don't order at bookdepository any more after a few really bad delivery experiences. if there's any other source with a proper price you know I'd gladly appreciate it if you shared it of course because amazon sure as hell doesn't offer any new Colossal Conan copies.

Picked up Essential Doctor Strange 2-3 (which are now going for huge bucks).

I know, they just did an Epic TPB with a lot of this material, but there is a huge chunk of Doctor Strange material that is not available in print in color between the Ditko omnibus and the Epic of the englehart run. So I'd rather stick to the Essentials until they close this gap.

Also, I have more Superman shit coming in to further complete my Post-Crisis Superman run collection in the form of Superman #672-700.
>>
>>87804982
So how much fucking Doctor Strange IS available these days? I know they did an omnibus of the Ditko run and the Shuma Gorath arc was the the Epic Doctor Strange TPB. What else is available in TPB?
>>
>>87805167

The Masterworks line is largely out of print but the last couple of volumes that are still in print, roughly cover the first 30 issues of the '740'-86 ongoing.

The recent Ditko omnibus roughly covers all of the Doc Strange covers from Strange Tales #110-146 (strange appeared sporadically in the beginning, missing several issues before becoming the permanent co-feature with issue #115).

From there you have the Epic TPB which collects the entire Marvel Premier run, a couple of odds and ends stories from this era, and the first five issues of the '74 series.

From that point, you are kind of SOL. The TPB of Triumph and Tragedy has a random issue from the Roger Stern era (#57) and the T&T graphic novel from 1990. After that, there is "Don't Pay the Ferryman" which collects the last six issues from the '74 series (#75-81) and "Doctor Strange: Strange Tales", which collects the Doctors Strange stories from the '87 revival of Strange Tales.

From that point, the only thing from the '89 series are #33-39 which are in the Infinity Gauntlet Omnibus sans back-ups and a couple of issues in the Acts of Vengeance X-Over Omnibus.

There are three OOP collections, two of which pair well with DPTF and the Strange Tales '87 collection (along with the Essentials and T&T).

Into the Dark Dimension collects #68-74 (and is rare as hell, as it was given a super small print run) and Doctor Strange Vs Dracula, which collects #58-62.

There is also an OOP TPB that collects both versions of the Doctor Strange Annual #1 (which was heavily rewritten for initial publication but was redrawn from based on the original junked script as a one-off in the 90s).

Essential Doctor Strange collects the entire original Doctor Strange Strange Tales run, the short lived '68 rebranding of ST into a Doctor Strange ongoing, the odds and ends stories bridging it and Marvel Premier, the Marvel Premier run and Doctor Strange '74-'86 #1-56 and Annual #1.
>>
>>87791748

>makes me sound like a pleb but I have a hard time getting into Bronze age stuff.

no that's okay, don't forget it's literally a different age of comics. the whole mindset behind it and the problems and aims it handled is completely different to us nowadays.
I can deal with bronze age but have attention problems with silver age stuff myself, except for Marvel/Kirby.

also don't forget it ran for way over 200 issues and into the late 80s so the latter stuff may be readable to you (haven't checked most of it yet)

you may want to pick up some scans/digitals of it first before paying money for any of it.

Awesome book, can't recommend it enough. It's the full color print, second edition (first edition seems to be missing Chapter 21, 2 Appendixes and an index) and according to the logo on the back and spine is the Turtleback Library Binding.
Only complaint is the unusual size means the spine's edges are a little warped, but it still reads fine. I'm 100% certain it's because I let a friend borrow it and he left it in his bag all the time. I really want to get another copy to display. It also convinced me to never let a friend borrow a book.

Pre-ordered the Bronze Age Brave and the Bold omni just for the Jim Aparo art. Still one of my favorite artists and has always drawn the definitive Batman for me. Looking forward to it. Probably going to buy the BatO hardcover now to go with it.

I was at the comic shop the other day and saw a boxset of Batman court of owls, city of owls, and death of the family. I asked the owner about them and he started taking about how it won a bunch of awards and were some of the best Batman stories in recent years. So I bought it, despite /co/'s warnings about Snyder. After all, he might have had good stories.

The owls were alright, death of the family was painfully edgey. Why didn't I listen to you, /co/?

similar to Jeph Loeb then. he somehow always managed to get top class artists for his completely shit stories that tended to destroy already established lore.

Lord of Light. it's mildly comic related since Jack Kirby drew concept art for it.

God I wish there will never ever be a movie of it. Not with the people in charge nowadays.

Skipping back amd forth between Simonson's Orion, The infinity Gauntlet Omni, and Werewolf by Night.
I find that I enjoy monthlies more if I don't do too many in a row.
Except for Kirby and Claremont. I can read issue after issue of those guys.

There is a pile of xmass wrapped books in my wife's closet, and several empty IST boxes scattererd around the garage. I am going to get a ton of cool shit.

just got a "like new" copy of Fourth World Omnibus vol 1.....and there are multiple stains throughout, the binding is falling apart, and the dust jacket has been folded so many different ways it's in a cloth-like state.

I hate dishonesty. Sell your average copy as average. Not even by the most charitable metric for "like new" is this book anything fucking close to "as if it just came out of the shrinkwrap."

amazon or ebay? on ebay you can at least easily get pics, amazon is a can of worms
>>
>>87845868
ebay. he had a photos of the front and back cover. None of the problems are visible from those angles. The thing is, you can tell from the moment you pick it up that it's obviously a heavily-used book. Everything is rubbed smooth, it lays flat when it's open to pretty much any page, pages all seem dirty/handled, etc. It looks and feels the way a book does after it's been in backpack rotation for a year. I've already opened up a return ticket.

the justifications he listed under "like new" are starting to irriate me more and more, because they're the only nice things you can say about the book.

>“Book is in Like New condition. No rips or writing on the dust jacket. No missing pages."
WOW! All the pages?! No writing?! Welp, that's MY entire checklist for "like new." Time to move on.
>>
>>87845639
ironing the dust jacket helps a bit, but make sure you don't get it wet and make sure you use another piece of cloth between the dust jacket and the iron before starting.

You'd think with this whole Kamandi project thing DC is doing and Kirby being such an influencial creator theyd at least keep some of the basics in print indefinetly.... why is Watchmen and various other Alan Moore shit always in print but Kirby is all OOP stuff you have to dig and scrape to find... have some respect ffs.

If I buy online I buy new. I got a used bookstore nearby and I'll gladly pick up something that's been lovingly destroyed provided I can examine it and decide what they're charging is fair. I refuse to gamble on used stuff by mail though.
>>
>>87849130
>why is Watchmen and various other Alan Moore shit always in print

Because if it went out of print the rights would go back to Moore and Gibbons.
>>

my first Flash omni definitely looks worse since the one and only fucking time I had it with me to show it to a friend I missed the last bus home and had to walk through rain and my bag and in it the omni got all soggy. lower part is basically fucked up from water damage.
but I did it myself so I only have to blame myself and it is still readable so...
>>
>>87849189
I usually buy my regular (non-comic) books used and online (mostly on amazon's market place) but my limit is at 25-30€ for HCs that are OOP and I ask the seller for pics. if the seller tells me some shit like "yeah uh we don't have it here, it's in some external warehouse" then I won't buy.

I ordered some shit via zvab.com (which is basically a German version of abebooks and I just saw their web certificate states that it belongs to abebooks), it's basically a marketplace for used book stores. ordered a few german non-comic books from it and they were always top notch for cheap.

is there anything like that besides abebooks for americans?

also I don't really care that much how my used regular books look like, but comics need to be top quality or nothing.

No they wouldn't and Moore wants nothing to do with any of the stuff he's written anyways. They're constantly in print because they're easy sells to casuals and make them a lot of money.
>>

Yeah it kinda sucks, both of the big 2 have like 40-50% of their trade books dedicated to stuff that they keep in print all the time...

They finally released more info about the Adam Strange Silver Age Omnibus:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1401272959/
and that's very nice cover pic.

>The Silver Age adventures of Adam Strange are collected at last in one giant omnibus collection!

>After being mysteriously teleported to another world, Rann, Adam Strange's life changed forever as he went from being an archaeologist to a cosmic adventurer and hero. In these tales from SHOWCASE #17-19 and MYSTERY IN SPACE #53-74, Adam and his new ally, Alanna, defend Rann against alien invaders, giant monsters, mad scientists, out-of-control robots and more!

Kind of disappointed. it collects basically the first archive and half of the second archive (which collects up to Mystery in Space 80).
There better be another one incoming which collects up to Mystery in Space 91 and Strange Adventures 157 like the 3rd archive does, but I seriously doubt it.
Thinking of skipping it and hunting down the archives instead since I can get 2 of them for piss-cheap and I'm generally very satisfied with the archive format.

I am goimg to pull this number out of my ass, but judging from posts around here and my own experience, I don't know that there are 10 omnis that really qualify for the "too big to read comfortably" rap.
In pic related, it is only Simonson's Thor that I notice the size of; my JSA omis are too large as well, I'll admit.
However, my DC One Million, Orion and the rest of the Marvel Omnis in the pic are fucking sweet.
I own the FF twice, here and in the MMW. There is simpy no comparison. The omnis are 10 times better in terms of paper, color, size, binding and reading experience over all.
I love them, honestly.

Tablet more to save on space than anything else. Was buying loads of omnibuses and TPBs and just don't have the shelf space. Now I can read digitally comfortably without tons of scrolling on my laptop or being stuck at my desk on my desktop.

Was a bit worried 10.1" would be a little small, but it's probably for the best really. Can read it without needing to zoom, but it's still got some weight to it, so think 12"+ would be uncomfortable to hold for extended reading.

What i do, is pick up around 2 or 3 floppies a week focusing on either big two stuff i really really enjoy, or other stuff like Hellboy or Image series that have back up material that might not be collected in later editions... Brubaker and Philips books from Image are a prime example, theres a usually very good essay in the back of most issues by various writers that they purposefully don't collect in the trades to give incentive to buy the single issues.
>>

the funny part is that this whole "Omni or Not" situation really boils down to where you're normally reading and what position you're in while youre doing it, Omnis are great for at home if you're sitting in a comfy chair and reading on your lap, or sitting at a desk or something. But lots of people read casually, on the bus, or laying in bed, or god forbid on the toilet...

Diff editions for diff styles. I don't think anyone could argue that a nice omni doesn't look great on a bookshelf but its just not convienent for everyone.

10' is what i wish i had, i got a small tablet last year but its only a 7 inch. its nice that its small and light but its hard to read stuff sometimes.
>>
>>87897138

Look at cheap homestores like ....bed bath and beyond or whatever, I got 6 decent looking wood frames at walmart of all places for like 10 bucks a piece, then you just mount them securely inside, i just leave them bagged and boarded and put a bit of stickytack between it and the backing board.

obviously this isnt something you do to preserve some super valuable book, i just have them on the wall in my living room and change them up every so often.

Anyone here deal with magazine files? How would I go about getting custom ones done like these?
>>
>>87899016
Well fuck me never mind. Now I look closer and feel like an idiot. Is there any way to get it as part of the file so it'll look better than just a sticker though?

Stores by me like AC Moore and JoAnn always give a 50 percent or more off custom framing coupon in their flier, so they might be worth looking into.
>>
>>87899054
what youd want to do is download a decent hi-res image of it and edit to the right measurements in something like photoshop, if you dont have a printer youself a print shop *might* do it for you, they're weird about coprights sometimes
>>

Thanks anon. I'll give that a shot.

Seems to be one of a kind. Apparently some people have 5trying to get him to reproduce it but he won't. Also it's the only in-context sketch I've ever seen
Everything else is just related. This is literally an in-context addition the cover by the original artist.

What's wrong with it? It's a fucking classic.

Also he drew this on Friday the 13th
>>
>>87894238
>Fucking beautiful. Is this from a foreign publisher?

yea, it's a spanish edition from Autsaider Comics. It was partially financed by a Belgian cultural association or something like that iirc.

And yea, I love Max too. He's got a couple books out on Fanta
>>
>>87905673
The fact that it was only created to sell merch. Half the cast being written out-of character, especially the X-Men. The fact that its existence lead to Secret Wars II.
Don't get me wrong, it has its moments, but I personally can't stand it.

That's not true at all. Classic examples of that are things like the spidey car etc.

Which xmen? Prof x is all I recall and he even addresses it himself. It's fully incorporated. Jim Shooter was editor in chief for a reason.

Floppies vs trades:

Which and why
>>
I'm wanting to buy about 8 floppies from midtown comic's site. Is that a good idea? Do they ship and handle them with care?

Trades for sure. Feels better to hold and read. Looks better to have in a shelf.

Though I do grab the occasional floppy whenever I really like the issue. e.g. the recent Hal Jordan and the GLC have had so many individually great issues that I've almost purchased the whole run so far.

I'll probably pick up the couple I'm missing just for the sake of it.

I also get floppies that have great covers on them.

Pic related was a great example that fits both categories I mentioned.

But yeah...trades almost any day. 99% of my collection is trades. Recently grabbed the New Frontier and COIE hardcovers.

Both phenomenal books.
>>

Floppies feel like a limp dick in your hand.
I only buy them when no other formats are available, for stuff that was never collected.
>>
>>87907326
>he doesn't like the feeling of limp cock
>>
>>87907055
Floppies only if you're trying something new, they're from a clearance bin, or if the issue isn't available in trade.

I might do that. I was going to use it on an IDW book but it brought it under $25 so it added shipping :/

Hmm. It looks interesting. So far I've yet to read an awful book about animals - We3, Red Rover Charlie, Beasts of Burden - have all been great.
>>
>>87907055
If I had any LCS with floppies in my city, lol, at least in my country. Yes, I would buy a few issues every month to support the authors and because I like how floppies look like in a box. But I am a foreigner so fuck it, the only option I have is buying online with expensive shipping. I have to pay $40 for the shipping of $50 order, and I only buy hardcovers and tpbs, dont have more money for floppies

It's a post apocalyptic animal book following a group of dogs and a cat as they try and defeat this thing. It's different from Rover Red Charlie in the sense that it's post-post apocalypse. The cats work with a raccoon to have a working foundry and even the dogs have pretty much accepted humans are gone.

Any holiday sales? Want to know before I blow my load on video games and blurays.
>>
>>87917225

The holiday sales worth a damn are on the sites that already have deep discounts, for ex... while B&N or some other site might have 20% off or whatever their base prices are still somewhat standard.

If I lived in the US I'd just wait for a good discount to pop up on IST since it would actually matter

Yeah, Bardin The Superrealist, can't think of the other one, though. Was it an Ignatz line comic? Have you read Peter Pank? For an early wor it's actually pretty successful. Dream of Mr. D is good but I don't like the drawing style as much as his clean-line, lush brush approach--Mr. D is over-rendered to all hell.
>>
>>87905673
I fucking loved it at the time, I was, like, seven years of age or something, though. heh, I can still remember The Beyonder's big speech denouement: "SLAY YOUR ENEMIES AND ALL YOU DESIRE SHALL BE YOURS!" Oh man that multi-issue plot thread with The Hulk holding up that fucking mountain for days?!?! God that was so good. I was genuinely scared that Hulk would falter and get himself and (most of) The Avengers cruse, Also loved Secret Wars II, so many great moments, Sue Storms crazy bondage costume, The Beyonder getting beaten within an inch of his life by The Thing (?) 'cause he wanted to know what death felt like, plus his dope eighties look, wavy hair and rolled-up suit coat sleeves and all. If you're a comics fan of a certain age its nostalgia in a bottle.

>>
>>87924750
*samey and less detailed than now

>>
>>87925284

How can I feel nostalgic for things written before I was born that I read for the first time recently?
>>
>>87925284
>Adams and Rogers are more samey and less detailed than Finch or Janin

Not that either of those things precludes competent storytelling, but seriously...
