Sandman. I like how the stories alternate between horror and fantasy, long form and self contained. Gaiman really is a master story teller. Sometimes he tells a whole, heart wrenching story in a few panels.

Well, I read Yoshihiro Tatsumi's stuff but I don't know if that counts as manga. I doubt anyone on /a/ even knows who that is. When he died he got a thread here but not on /a/ for example. His comics is more in the vein of american alternative comics than what one typically thinks of when hearing the word "manga" (japanese geek shit like pokemon or whatnot).
