just like in real life.
>>
>>87746372
he LITERALLY is though, he wants to:

1)close off he border with mexico (which is what nazis did with poland which is what started ww2)
2)imprison or deport every latinx person in america
3)criminalize LGBTQIA people and herd them into literal re-education camps where they're subjected to shock therapy to "cure" them
4)start wars with any country who disagrees with him

sounds like hitler to me
>>
>>87746372

At least Adolf was in the military.
>>
>>87748515
I know it's bait, but I'm bored:

1) He doesn't want a closed border, just heavily controlled. Also, I think WW2 had more to do with the nazis INVADING Poland than closing the border with it...
2) Only the illegal immigrants
3) No, that's Mike Pence.
4) His foreign policy is a bit all over the place, but he hasn't really come off as a warmonger. If anything he's been getting flak for not saying he'll come to the defense of our allies.

Not Hitler, just an egotist who gave a lot of lip service to a lot of people and now needs to figure out what to actually do.
>>
>>87746372

The meme that "we need to run the government like a business" is a terrible one for plenty of reasons.

... we aren't hopping on that. Nobody is hopping on that.

The phrase "only president that hasn't had prior political OR military experience" only includes the military experience bit because there is only one other prior president without political experience.

Eisenhower.

Every other president has political experience, and Eisenhower is forgiven because he was goddamn Supreme Commander of the Allied forces... which is comparable to President in scope and responsibilities and administration understanding.

Trump has no experience with understanding government.
>>
>>87749223
Anon, that's five + terms, though we've only had three presidents over that time. And considering the average age of /co/, I'd consider a 20+ year span a decent representation of how it's not new for most current voters to select people with no prior combat experience.

Bush for all his faults doesn't have the ego of Trump.

He also has more of a professional attitude than Trump.

I mean Trump is a man who takes to Twitter at 2am when he gets butthurt about a sketch show doing a parody of him, which is to be expected when you run for president of the United fucking States, rather than just getting the fuck over it, ignoring it and moving on.

The size of his hands got mocked, and for some reason he took this very obvious bait

Bush never did that.

His thin skin is a worry to people when he's going to have some degree of control about things that will actually affect their lives.

>Still doesn't realize that it gives some states 4x the citizen voting power compared to others
>Claiming to have democratic elections

Also, love it when people claim that the reason the EC exists is to protect rural interests.

That's the Senate's job. The EC is designed to give the "politically elite/educated" a final say in who becomes president, to separate it from the citizen's votes. Read the federalist papers.
>>
>>87749196
Because Bush had a background in politics
He was never so openly rude, ignorant, or against specific cultures/peoples/nationalities like Trump is
Trump's inviting a bunch of people who also don't know much about politics into his cabinet, presumably because they contributed to his campaign the most but maybe also because Trump doesn't know anyone else

People aren't just worried that the establishment will change irreperably for the worse
They are worried that there will be no help for them
They are worried that new laws will be designed that don't/can't stop people from harassing them, abusing them, or subjugating them

I'm of the opinion that Trump probably won't do good. He was firmly against Obamacare, but once he actually learned about it, he did what any decent politician would do and said that he was keep it around, but get rid of all the bad parts, which is good. However, in essentially all of his detailed plans, he has shown that he intends to make the rich more rich and make things easier on businesses than America's people, so there's still a chance that he could "fix" Obamacare in a way that makes it just as terrible (in the ways that it is terrible) or worse.

I'm not personally scared or worried, even though I'm black, because I'm also suicidal
easy exit strategy

/pol/ actually had a good response to this

>We are not a democracy we are a union of 50 separate republics bound together by a federal constitution. You want your popular vote to matter you vote for state, local and congressional representatives. The executive branch enforces federal law across all states and acts as commander and chief for our armed forces, which are made from volunteers from all 50 states. Therefore that office is elected by the states not the people (although they get to vote on who gets their stat'so points). CA and NY should not be able to decide how every state's federal laws will be enforced or how their sons and daughters in the armed forces will be utilized. The EC gives extra votes to smaller states as an incentive to stay in the union, otherwise they would have no voice in the executive (or judicial in practice) branch and no reason to participate in their own subjugation.

Defiantly, but it makes for good TV. People burning an effigy is much more exciting than people walking down the street screaming.

But like I said, when all the protests and rioting are said and done, the left is going to have a hard time coming off as level-headed when they've enticed riots in major cities. I mean to someone like me, who isn't american it doesn't look like much else than "we lost, lets trash this planet".

Democratic refers to the (supposed) method of elections.

Republic refers to the fact that we have representatives.

If I have a red ball, it's accurate to say it is red, I don't have to say it's a red ball every time I describe it.

Would you be OK if other citizens in your country got 4 votes when you only got 1?

It's outlined in the closing section of that post, states don't want to submit to subjugation based on population density if it means they have no representation and we only focus on the 10 most populated cities. If you think the swing state situation is bad, imagine a swing city situation. Why would citizens in Maine, Kansas or Montana participate if the elected president doesn't care about them?

That's a terrible response, because the electoral college does not represent smaller states at all.

As I said, that's the Senate.

The electoral college mathematically only favors swing state votes, as residents in those states get around 2/3rds of the political attention/visits (which translates into favors, projects, etc.) each election.

Is the EC really helping the small states? Last I checked nobody visits Wyoming. Or the other 20 states that aren't "competitive".

The founders had this argument, and that's why we have the Senate. The electoral college was not designed to be a check for small states.

Of course, that would require the denizens of /pol/ to understand math or have read the federalist papers... so they probably don't get that.

But anon, democracy is the the tyranny of the majority. And the only other alternative is to have it be the tyranny of the minority, like the EC allows it to. You said it yourself,

That allows the rural communities to get what they want per state basis. But a president is the representative of a country to the outside, so they should be chosen by the majority to represent them.

He'll bring back manufacturing even though US manufacturing output has increased while jobs were lost because the threat has been mechanization, not globalization.

The electoral college combined with the first pass the post system (winner take all) that we have means that the two party system is inevitable.

We have a pretty good couple of centuries of history to show that it is true in practice too, not just mathematically. You can't keep the EC/FPTP system and ever expect the two party system to die.

If the Whigs actually came back, they would replace another party within a decade or so and we'd be back to two again. It wouldn't be the first time.

not likely

as it is now a pretty large number of states get a lot of attention, especially those which contribute most to the US economy/industry/livelihood.

people can make excuses all they want but I think you can best describe what went "wrong" for the democrats in one anecdote.

not once during her entire campaign did Hillary visit Wisconsin
Trump visited 6 times.
and she only visited Michigan near the end when it was becoming obvious she was losing there.

the Democrats don't give a shit shit about the midwest. who had been voting blue for years, now they complain that these states jumped ship and claim their strongholds in California/NY should be worth more than the rest of the country.

Yes.

This was before the convention. If you even listened to the video, you'd know this (hell, the description references the possibility of him debating Bernie Sanders).

Primaries are different because they are so spread out, and winning a few small states (if the next set of states isn't for a while) can change the narrative. Candidates travel to states differently.

General election candidates don't travel to rural, small states. South Dakota was only visited by third parties after the conventions.

Are you sure you know what you're talking about?

It's solved a lot of things, actually. People just hate doing it because it feels like inaction and it doesn't make them feel as good than self-defeating actions.

Example: Here's a show I don't like. Best course of action? Ignore it. Don't give attention. Don't give money. But it doesn't feel good. What feels good is complaining and boycotting. Which gives the show attention. Which increases its ratings. Which makes it more successful.

That's the point of the Senate though.

If we went popular, the votes that get ignored in California (~35% would bolster republican causes).

The only reason you can make your argument is because we have a state based winner take all system. If we went to pure popular vote, you'd realize that cities and states aren't voting monoliths.

The idea that majority is all that matters is seated in 'might makes right' ideology. We can't leave the location to only the heavily populated urban areas because they don't understand what it's like to live in places like Montana. They don't understand the needs of a person living in a rural place and they'll only vote for the self-interests of the places in which they live.

Not acceptable in a large, diverse country with fifty state governments. The government of California should not have more power than the government of Wyoming. Likewise, the people of California shouldn't either.

There are plenty of leavers who are essentially Ross from friends in that episode where he keeps telling people he's fine when he's clearly not.

"It'll all bounce back, things are bad now, but we'll be better off soon...honest!" seems to be the refrain on Facebook

The voted for parliamentary democracy. Parliamentary democracy dictates that Theresa May cannot enact article 50 without a vote on parliament. Basically its law in place to prevent PM's going rogue with power.

People are flipping their shit because we had a referendum on it even though referendum aren't legally binding and never have been legally binding. Saying "we will enact what you vote for" in a leaflet does not change that fact.

Although there are plenty of people in Britain who would want to block Brexit, there are plenty of people, both pro and anti leave who don't trust the Tories to negotiate on their own without any oversight. May doesn't want there to be oversight because its a fucking poorly held secret that no fucker in government has a coherent plan for what they are going to do, and they don't want that exposed.

Essentially, in a nutshell, people didn't know what they were voting for with regards to what the fuck a referendum is and how the result can be enacted and are now throwing their toys out of the pram as though their ignorance on parliamentary conduct is somehow the fault of "salty remoaners"

I can't wait for it all to kick off again when Parliament does vote on it, and people forget that the role of an MP is not to enact the will of the people, but rather to make decisions in their stead.

If the EC is supposed to force the president to represent every state (it isn't, by the way, according to the founders) it does a shit job.

The general candidates from the two major parties didn't visit ~20 states this election. Many of them rural, because no one gives a shit.

Swing states are all that matter. Why should those few states get more of a say than anyone else?

Arguing that the EC protects the interests of small states is idiotic, as it doesn't even do that well.

That would change if we went purely by popular vote. Campaigns would change. The system would change. Trump would've cared a lot more about California. Clinton would've cared a lot more about Texas.

It's all irrelevant. Swing states are only swing states because we have enough information on other states to know how they're gonna vote pretty confidently.

In a pure democracy you get a similar problem. Then only California, New York, and Texas would matter with most other states being marginalized.
>>

>>
>>87750599
because having lots of people doesn't mean they should have more power.
the USA isn't a democracy nor should it ever strive to be because that would be an awful system for the majority of the country.

it would turn into something like Europe where you have two or three big states and everyone else has to form coalitions with one of them in order to have some sort of say, it would mean the death of the union and leave anyone who isn't living in a megacity in an awful situation.

besides, changing the rules after the fact is stupid, if the election was concerned with pure votes it would have been run entirely different and all those republicans who never vote in California would have rushed out, not to mention voting would have to be standardized across the nation so no more shenanigans by states like Cali where they let illegals and people without ID vote.

Liberals are just sad and bitter and I hope they become even more so in the next four years. Hopefully they will double down, further alienate people, and eventually implode.
>>
>>87750612

There is no perfect solution but it does protect those states better than a blanket popular vote would. You have to remember the reason most smaller states aren't visited is because their voting record is remarkably consistent, which generally indicates they're more or less happy with a certain party's policies. Should they ever become unhappy or feel disenfranchised they're free to swing their vote and become a greater focus for national attention. Utah this election was a great example of that. You're basically advocating throwing out a system that benefits roughly half of the states now in favor of a system that only benefits about 4.

>>87750643

Eh, Frost pulled that out of him in a pretty shrewd way, but I believe he meant what he said in that he was doing what he felt was in the country's best interest. It's understandable that when you have to push military action in Asia and keep the Russians from going nuclear that a burglary seems like small potatoes. I've always had a lot of sympathy for Nixon, he had to follow the Christ-like figure of JFK and lead the country through a very unpopular war after Johnson bungled things up.

>But right now we're experiencing a tyranny of the minority.
not really
the needs of people in a single city are all basically the same, most of them think the same and vote the same on various issues, so they might as well be treated as a bloc.
the current system ensures that the widest array of opinions are brought to bear.

and ignoring all of this, the republicans won both the senate and the house too which effectively makes your argument irrelevant since cali and other "blue" states could have flooded them with congressmen if they wanted which would have been more than enough to block trump.

yet because it comes down to a popular vote within states, all these blue states put in a bunch of republicans.

your argument is basically just "I'm bigger so I should have more power" well if that's the case, white people are bigger than you so they should (and rightfully have) won.

Your electoral votes are based on how many senators (2 per state) +representatives (proportionate to your population, recalculated every 10 years, grand total is capped at 438) your state has. Remember that the Republicans also dominate the house of Representatives and the senate.
>>
>>87750830
>But right now we're experiencing a tyranny of the minority

No we're not. There are advantages to the majority and advantages to the minority. They even out. There is no tyranny and you always have a voice.

If the candidate you wanted to win had won you wouldn't even be complaining, would you?
>>
>>87750856

Because as explained we want them to stay in the union. I can almost guarantee you if the system was a pure popular vote the united states would balkanize. Those flyover states still have natural resources and industries that are important to the US economy. Ensuring that they have a voice in the country makes sure they don't feel exploited for the benefit of people that don't know and don't care about their needs.
>>
>>87750856
because there's nothing really wrong with affirmative action in essence, just lazy implementation.

really though, if Hillary had won none of you would be complaining, instead you would be saying how efficient the system is at keeping out "dangerous radicals" like Trump.

Resources should be directed toward those institutions which provide assistance to those seeking to change their sexual behavior.

That was Mike Pence's statement that started the whole moral-panicky 'He's gonna shock ALL the gays' hysteria.

The Ryan White Comprehensive AIDS Resources Emergency (CARE) Act is a piece of legislation granting funds to HIV/AIDS research. His position in 2000 simply states that they should re-authorize the CARE Act only after making sure that federal funds were not going to any organizations that encourage the spread of HIV.
He also stated that funding should go to institutions that assist people seeking to change their sexual behavior. This is the comment people have taken to mean he supports the use of conversion therapy for LGBT youth.

Nothing wrong with any of that. There are no forced gay conversion camps. There are no HIV help places to be deprived of funds they desperately need. Quit yer bitchin'.

Last I checked Obama won the popular and electoral vote in 2012.

The president's job is to appoint justices.

Suddenly, when Scalia's piece of shit ass croaked, the president wasn't supposed to do that in an election year, even when he's got nearly a year left to govern.

Suddenly, when it looked like Hillary might not shit her pantsuit long enough to win the election, the court didn't need 9 justices at all.

Republicans believe only they get to set policy, appoint justices, etc. It's that simple. So now that they have the power, the Democrats will be traitors if they use the same obstructionist, nakedly partisan tactics the Republicans used. And the Republicans get a free court seat they didn't earn via winning the popular and electoral vote twice.

You can't change how someones brain works without heavy drugs or surgery. Practices like sexual promiscuity of any kind. You realize why HIV hit the gay community so hard? Because anonymous sex/bathhouse culture is a fucking cancer. That shit spread like wildfire.

Promiscuous sex culture in the gay community came closer to wiping us out than conservative politicians in the United States ever have.

Any HIV researcher who supports that kind of sexual promiscuity is out of their fucking mind and that kind of thinking should be discouraged.

No, homosexuality is not sex culture. But sex culture has been a big part of the community for a long time and it needs to stop. It could start by not funding organizations that support that kind of culture and instead support more reserved sexual attitudes. And that doesn't have to be anti-gay.

The biggest problem with condoms is that they encourage more and more riskier sex acts simply because they make you feel safe.

Research has shown that free condom programs in Africa did less to negatively impact the spread of AIDS than programs that focused on 'no grazing' (that is, sticking to just one sexual partner and not being promiscuous).

Condoms aren't a cure-all. Being smart and reserved about sex is more important.

>organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus.

Think this through: to a man like Pence, being gay itself celebrates the types of behaviors that facilitate the spread of HIV. Why the fuck else would he specify therapy to change their sexual behavior? Do you really not see the implication there? To Pence, being gay is itself a behavior. Treating gayness as a fact of life instead of an aberrant behavior that can be corrected counts as "celebrating and encouraging" that behavior. "Changing their sexual behavior" is very, very obvious phrasing for conversion therapy.

You're giving him far too much credit.

>>

Do you have any idea how conservative the military is? Where do you think they draw most of their recruits? Beyond that you fundamentally don't understand an insurgency. The government can't use things like fighter jets and drones indiscriminately like they can in other countries. All it does is destroy their own infrastructure and pit otherwise neutral agents against them. The only thing that decisively beats an insurgency are boots. Boots on the ground, door to door, and stomping on the face of the insurgent. Which is pretty damn hard to do when you're outnumbered and out gunned.

Because they didn't use Condom. Because condom was used to prevent having Baby and its only in the recent decades it has been used as a way to stop MST. Without condom, straigth are as likely to catch aids than gay.

>Promiscuous sex culture in the gay community came closer to wiping us out than conservative politicians in the United States ever have.
Not really not at all.

No, because HIV is still much more common amongst gay men.

I'm not saying that there will never be a revolution. What I'm saying is that the deciding factor will not be the guns squirreled away.

Even assuming you have completely trained, effective insurgents... you need the military and police to step aside. You'd need millions to rise up just to meet their current (low) numbers.

I am military btw.

You're claiming I said they couldn't be used when I clearly said they could not be used INDISCRIMINATELY. You cannot win against an insurgency with only drones or planes. You cannot just bomb them back into submission. Chances are if you kill a million insurgents with them you will have killed a nearly equal or greater amount of innocent civilians which will only legitimize the insurgents and cause their ranks to swell. Airstrikes can be used but generally are only going to be effective against high value targets. Things like supply lines and materiel. Things that aren't going to be as prevaltent if the supply of guns and ammunition is largely decentralized. To get those sources of decentralized arms and munitions you need to go door to door. You can't tell an insurgent from a civilian just by looking at them. You'll have to go door to door to every house to see which ones have the capacity to rebel, which is a pretty scary concept if there's a chance that behind every door there's going to be a gun.

Nigger do you think there are no boots on the ground to go along with it?

Ive been following this war since 2011 and Assad was literally about to lose in 2014 because he had no airfields to launch planes from, no bases with no food nor ammo to fuel an army and no population to train into new forces after so much. He only survived thanks to Hezbollah and Iranian forces, Russian aviation aided the ground push but they didnt literally stop the rebels on their own.
