I'd love to help, but my French is as the "bad tourist" level if I am being generous. And that's assuming I can understand what's being said. I tried listening to an episode raw and found that I couldn't even follow what was being said, outside picking out a few words.

I was actually thinking of brushing up on my French over December (independent of this) but seeing as I never studied past simple and imperfect conjugation, I wouldn't put much faith in my ability to translate conversational French.

Lots of staff love her, as they did Talia, and I've had an animator name her as their favorite. She's slowly eclipsing Talia for my #2 spot.

Although I guess it was more how they operated in combat than anything else. You probably would've thought that Talia would be the cold calculating type, hanging back and dealing with Auriana recklessly jumping in. Instead I normally saw Talia jumping into a fight with both scythes swinging, generally with Auri playing defense. And while it was generally only Iris jumping into anything recklessly, it was interesting that Auri was typically the one with some strange (if sometimes effective) ideas in a fight. I have a feeling that Gramorr is Iris's dad, and quite possibly the kitty is her mother. I mean, nobody has given any explanation to exactly where Iris's parents went or what exactly happened to them. They just disappeared one day, and there's Gramorr taking over the kingdom.

It could be anything from "king put on cursed crown, queen turned into crystal to protect crown" to "king was researching way to save kingdom, stumbled upon dark energy" to even something like "queen turned into magical beast, king accepts agreement to try to get her back".

Or, I guess he could just be an evil wizard and the two disappeared to some magic dimension hole until the world gets saved. I mean, sometimes the show is fairly good with tropes, while other times it cleaves close to tradition.

Auri definitely thinks out of the box more than I thought. The hairdryer ghost catcher, figuring out how to track the orbs with people's voices, etc.
I thought she'd be the second coming of Clover, initially. She does have her harem of one shots, but she seems to have more genuine interest in them and their hobbies than just the D.

Iris I never had a clue, given her MC-ness. The surprise would be how she doesn't give an inch to the opposition, how she stands her ground. Her kicking Meph in the ass was when I knew she'd be alright. Her interactions with Gramm and Lev in the finale were what sold me on her.

This was the first inkling of the overall plot we got 3 years ago. They scrapped the notion, since it's pretty cliche, and their blog has debunked any notion that Gramm is her father or what have you.
They also debunked the rumor that Lev was Iris' brother

Theory: I think Aunt Ellen will be revealed as an Ephedian. Like, why else would they send Iris to Earth unless they had someone there?

I just took that to be Auri loving the idea of a dating and romance, as opposed to just obsessing over a particular person. I note that she didn't jump from guy to guy when talking about them; just an interest in boys in general.

But hey, once she found a guy she was interested in, she not only seemed to stick with him (I didn't notice any talk about boys after that) but also listened and picked up on some of his interests! I'd've expected her to ditz out over the whole thing, not actually retain what he'd mentioned to her and find a use for that later it the episode.

I never understood that idea. Lev certainly did not act anything like Iris was his sister. If anything, he acted like some spoiled prince or at least someone blackmailed into playing his part, who was reluctant in what he had to do. He did recommend Iris just run once she was free, after all.

Plus, Iris's magical symbol looks nothing like Lev's. The only family members we know about (Talia and Izira) have some remarkably similar looking magic circles, which makes me think that magic symbols likely run in families, if not within country lines. If Lev was part of the royal Ephedia line, then he would have a magic symbol that looked something like Iris's... not an orange lion's head.

Okay: I take that back. Kakos and Deinos are twins and obviously related. They also have identical magic symbols, just colored differently. It does mean that family symbols can have wildly different colors, although they still seem to preserve some symbolism and imagery.

They debunked it pretty early on, around when it launched last year. Depending on when you jumped on the wagon it's easy to miss that detail.

Good point on the circles and relations. I think the reason the rumor even came around was from a former animator jokingly mentioning it, so ruse cruise. For me it sounded plausible from the Iris perspective from her reaction to his teasing.
I do think Lev could be cast off royalty. We don't know how many countries there are, and staff have said magic is more of a royal possession than for commoners (Meph and Prax are the Indians of commoners being able to learn it, evil if it's the dark variety). It's definetly good fodder for a two parter revolving around him.
