that is because ATLA was made with western audiences in mind. There are way too many cultural cues we miss in Anime to really appreciate at its fullest, and because of that, many shows fall flat to the non-Japanese..

Young justice, and the 90s batman and superman cartoons were very good, which is the best one can hope for compared to last airbender.

Legend of Korra never really achieved the level of the original. It had some good ideas at its foundation, but execution was horribly flawed. It's not the worst series ever, but compared to the original its a huge letdown.

Brotherhood with 2003 combined since Brotherhood rushed the first half a bit started out really good. But eventually Brotherhood was all about the fights which I kinda feel happens all the time with shounen anime. If you ignore the awful pacing in the ant arc in HxH the anime is pretty top notch though, I won't lie.

Korra was alright, weak in a lot of areas that made the last airbender really shine. a solid 7/10 has its moments, but fails to do anything worth remembering

I just never understood the argument about how it ruined the original when you could easily watch LOK first and go back to watch ATLA and still see it as a superior series. But nope this sequel which has little to nothing to do with the original is what ruined the entire thing.

the first season of kora got fucked by being planned around being twice as long then forced in to one season, then having to build on the badly built foundation, though there was a smattering of "Lucas" syndrome (where giving too much creative leeway to creators who did better under pressure) on the later seasons as well.

But if you just wanna be introduced to and have a late start at once wildly popular series in general, Homestuck. It also had it's really high highs and really low lows, but it was so much fun that I can't say I regret it.

I rewatched this show last week because I wanted to watch Korra, still loved it. I finished Korra 2 days ago and I gotta say it was disappointing. I might've liked it on its own but I just compared it to Avatar too much I guess. Perhaps I should've put a bit of a break between to the two, you might want to consider doing that before you jump into Korra.
